Bei rotirenden Trommelofen, welche zu Brenn-, Rost- und Trockenzwecken gebraucht werden, findet eine erhebliche Wärmestrahlung von der Mantelfläche des Ofens aus statt, welche die Arbeit sehr erschwert und erhebliche Wärme Verluste im Gefolge hat. Um diesem Uebelstande einigermafsen zu begegnen, hat man versucht, den Ofenmantel zu kühlen, indem die Wandung desselben verdoppelt und von einem Wasserstrom durchflossen wurde. Durch diese Anordnung wird jedoch der Ofen sehr schwer, so dafs besondere Vorkehrungen gegen Durchbiegungen getroffen werden müssen. Die von dem feststehenden Kühlmantel aufgenommene Wärme kann unter Umständen zweckmäfsig weiter verwendet werden, so dafs erhebliche Wärmeersparnisse sich ergeben.
