Process for the production of electrically conductive coverings on the
Inner walls of very thin channels The invention relates to a method for manufacturing
of electrically conductive coatings on the inner walls of very thin channels that

enforce large numbers, especially of insulating plates for multi-channel secondary electron amplifiers
in image converter or image intensifier tubes, by depositing the covering material
a gas or gas-vapor mixture flowing through the channels of the heated insulating plate
by thermal decomposition.
There are already so-called multi-channel secondary electron multipliers
known with an insulating washer, which a plurality of parallel to each other

Channels are provided with a material that has a secondary emission factor greater
as one owns. In addition, this material is electrically conductive. The covering
the inner wall with such a material must be done in such a way
that the channels are not clogged and have the smoothest possible wall surface.
It is known to vaporize a metal layer for this purpose, but this occurs
frequent blockages of the ducts.
From the German Auslegeschrift 1089 895 it is known per se to deposit conductive material from the gas phase on the inner surfaces of channels. However, no precautions are taken there to ensure uniform deposition in very thin channels.
For the metallization of porous molded bodies, it is known from German Auslegeschrift 1086 511 to pump a gaseous metal compound through the heated molded body for the purpose of thermal decomposition. Here, too, a sufficiently uniform deposition is not ensured.
The object of the present invention is to provide a novel
To provide a method with the help of which it is possible to produce a large number of small
Channels that penetrate an insulating disk with a largely uniform,
To cover electrically conductive layer without the channels are clogged.
According to the invention it is proposed that the gas or gas-steam mixture
is passed in alternating directions through the channels.
According to a further development of the present invention, the conductive coatings should consist of a zinc oxide, titanium oxide or carbon. The production of a carbon coating is done for example in such a way that it passes through a suitable gas or vapor in the hydrocarbon compound through the channels of the insulating plate, where ei 0 asked to be made verifiable time a heating of the insulating plate. The temperature must be adjusted so that the hydrocarbon compound thermally dissociates.
rechteckige Form besitzen. Die Stärke einer solchen Platte kann z. B. einige Millimeter
betragen. In FIG. 1 shows , in cross section, a detail from an insulating material plate 1 through which a multiplicity of channels 2 pass. The insulating material plate 1 can, for example, have a circular or rectangular shape. The strength of such a plate can be, for. B. be a few millimeters.
in
The F i g. 2 schematically shows an apparatus for carrying out the method according to the invention. The apparatus consists of a container 8 in which the insulating disk 1 with the channels is placed. This container 8 is connected to a pump-like device 7 by pipes 9 . The entire arrangement is filled with a corresponding gas or a gas-vapor mixture 6 which, when heated, is capable of depositing a conductive material. By reciprocating the piston rod 4 and thus the piston 3 , the gas or gas-vapor mixture 6 in the arrangement is set in a reciprocating motion so that the gas mixture flows through the channels in the insulating material plate 1 in alternating directions . With the aid of a heat source 5, which can consist of a gas flame or an electric furnace or a similar arrangement, the insulating material plate 1, which advantageously consists of glass or ceramic, is heated to the temperature required for deposition. The gas mixture alternately flowing through the heated channels separates a conductive material which is deposited on the inner walls of the channels and thus brings about the desired covering of the inner wall of the multi-channel secondary electron multiplier.
