Die Einrichtung und Wirkungsweise des Regulators ist folgende:The set-up and mode of operation of the regulator are as follows:
Hinter dem sogenannten Rückschlagventil h ist in der Wasserzuführungsleitung ein Rohrverschlufs angebracht. In der Zeichnung ist hierfür ein Kolben c gewählt, welcher behufs der Entlastung durchlöchert ist. Dieser Rohrverschlufs wird durch den Dampfkolben f regulirt, dessen Cylinder durch eine Röhre, welche in einen auf dem Dampfkessel angebrachten Rohrstutzen mündet, mit dem Dampfraum verbunden ist. In diesem Rohrstutzen ist unter der in das Dampfrohr führenden Durchbohrung das Kugelventilchen α angebracht, welches auf einer Stange sitzt, die unten einen Schwimmer e trägt. Dieser Schwimmer ist so angeordnet, dafs das Ventil bei dem gewünschten mittleren Wasserstande geschlossen ist. Die Stellschrauben d und d1 dienen zum Einstellen des Schwimmers auf gewünschte Höhe. Dieser Schwimmer sinkt, wenn sich das AVasser im Kessel vermindert, und öffnet das Ventilchen a, so dafs nun der Dampf durch den an der Kesselwandung angebrachten Rohrstutzen und durch das Röhrchen in den Dampfcylinder tritt. Der in den Dampfcylinder eintretende Dampf hebt den Kolben/, und da mit diesem Dampfkolben der Kolben c zur Wasserregulirung durch Stangen verbunden ist, so mufs sich auch dieser Kolben c heben, der Rohrverschlufs wird aufgehoben und das Speisewasser kann in den Dampfkessel abfliefsen. Infolge hiervon steigt das Wasser im Dampfkessel. Dadurch wird nun auch der Schwimmer gehöben, und das kleine Dampfventilchen schliefst die Durchbohrung des Rohrstutzens wieder ab, so dafs kein Dampf mehr in den Dampfcylinder treten kann. Von diesem Augenblick ab speist sich der Dampfkessel noch so lange weiter, als der unter dem Dampfkolben stehende Dampf noch Spannkraft genug besitzt, den Kolben hoch zu halten. Nach und nach verliert jedoch dieser Dampf seine Spannkraft durch die Abkühlung, und sinkt deshalb der Dampfkolben und ebenso auch der Verschlufskolben c infolge der eigenen Schwere, die eventuell durch die noch anzubringenden Gewichte g und gx verstärkt werden kann, wodurch die Wasserzuführung zu dem Dampfkessel unterbrochen wird.Behind the so-called check valve h , a pipe connection is attached in the water supply line.
