The invention relates to a process for the production of paraformaldehyde by continuous Rectification of aqueous formaldehyde solutions under reduced pressure.
Processes are known, according to which this rectification takes place under reduced pressure in a column, the formaldehyde solution flows in the middle part and in the part also known as the sump The concentrate is dried at the bottom in a drying device located there.
However, such facilities and modes of operation are unsatisfactory in some respects. This is essentially due to the fact that the nature and the behavior of the system "formaldehyde-water" not sufficiently taken into account or, as a result, no suitable procedural measures has concluded.
The »formaldehyde-water« system has under normal pressure an azeotropic point. Under reduced pressure it disappears, and it is It is therefore possible to obtain a condensate with a lower formaldehyde content at the top of the column, the deeper it is the absolute pressure is there. It is well known that pressure and temperature are in the same relationship to each other. Since the pressure in the bottom of the column is only slightly higher than in the top, it is in the bottom also the temperature only slightly higher.
So if you strive to keep a low working pressure at the top of the column To obtain as low a formaldehyde condensate as possible, this leads to the fact that in the bottom of the column Pressure and temperature are also quite low.
Under these conditions, however, there is a risk that what occurs in the swamp, but not yet far enough concentrated product already polymerized at a relatively low temperature, so thick and the apparatus, in particular the heating device, ζ. Β. clogged a tube evaporator. It So up to now it has been difficult or practically impossible to achieve an optimum, because if you have the Operates the column with a consistently higher temperature in the sump, then you get a more concentrated, warmer bottom product and therefore not prone to premature polymerisation, but on the head, which is also warmer, produces a condensate that is still too rich in formaldehyde and therefore uneconomical is.
Der Erfindung liegt deshalb die Aufgabe zugrunde, die Herstellung von Paraformaldehyd durch kontinuierliche Rektifizierung wäßriger Formaldehydlösungen so auszuführen, daß einerseits nur ganz geringe und Verfahren zur Herstellung von ParaformaldehydThe invention is therefore based on the object, the production of paraformaldehyde by continuous To carry out rectification of aqueous formaldehyde solutions so that on the one hand only very little and Process for the production of paraformaldehyde

Losses of formaldehyde due to removal with the distillation steam, which are to be regarded as unavoidable and on the other hand a not prematurely polymerized and therefore still considerably water-containing, but a highly concentrated paraformaldehyde is obtained, which is only one proportionately light post-drying is required.
The invention relates to a process for the production of paraformaldehyde by continuous Rectification of aqueous formaldehyde solutions under reduced pressure, which is characterized is that the rectification is carried out in two successive process stages, in that in a first rectifying column 21 fed with aqueous formaldehyde solution, a higher one Working pressure of 100 to 150 mm Hg is maintained and that at the top of this first column 21 escaping vapor mixture fed to the lower end of a second column 28 and in the same much lower working pressure of 20 to 30 mm Hg is maintained.
To illustrate the invention, a two-column rectification plant is shown schematically in the figure shown.
The first rectifying column 21 is approximately half the height through the feed pipe 2 with an aqueous Formaldehyde solution fed from 30 to 40 percent by weight HCHO. At the bottom of the first Column 21, the so-called sump 23, is connected to a known tubular evaporator 4, which is so it is to be set that there is a working pressure of 100 to 150 mm Hg in the sump. Further is to the swamp a well-known vacuum two-roll apparatus5 is connected, which is connected to it through the pipeline 23 'supplied, 55 to 85 percent by weight HCHO-containing concentrate to a dry, flaky End product with 82 to 98 weight

prozent HCHO verarbeitet, das durch umschaltbare Vakuumschleusen 6 entnommen werden kann.percent HCHO processed, which can be removed through switchable vacuum locks 6.
The vapors produced in the vacuum two-roll apparatus 5 are passed through a pipe 7 into the sump 3 directed, so serve in addition to the tube evaporator 4 as an additional heating means.
The vapors formed at the upper end of the first column 21 are through the pipe 21 'the the lower end of the second column 22 is fed. The same is done with a much lower working pressure operated, which is to be set so that it is only 20 to 30 mm Hg at the head 28. Of the at the transition from the first column 21 to the second column 22, the pressure jump to be carried out can can be achieved by any throttling device known in the relevant apparatus engineering. Merely as a simple example of this, the figure contains a at the lower end of the second column 22 Bubble column 32. Part of the liquid-vapor mixture contained in the second column 22 is from the lower end of the same via a pipe 32 'back to the upper end of the first Column 21 fed by means of a only schematically indicated, overcoming the mentioned pressure jump Pump.
The vapors escaping at the top 28 of the second column 22 pass through a pipe 9 into the Cooler 10. A certain TeE of the accumulating here, only 0.1 to 0.5 percent by weight of HCHO Condensate can be drained through the pipe 11, another part can through the pipe 12 into the Column top 28 are returned.
