Method of preventing the abrasion of pellets for reduction
of hematite in the rotary kiln During the production of sponge iron in the rotary kiln
Reduction of pelletized iron ore or lumpy ore is more economical
Significance, the accumulation of dust and fine grain resulting from the reduction is so small
as possible to keep. For this reason, one has already made the
Green pellets, d. H. So the pellets already in a moist and unhardened state
proposed (German Auslegeschrift 1039 081) strength-increasing additives, such as
Include bentonite, hydrated lime, calcium chloride or similar salts. It is further
known not to incorporate these additives into the pellets themselves, but predominantly
or completely pelletized as an outer skin in the surface. This attachment can
take place in such a way that the pure aggregates are pelletized or in a mixture
with a fraction (about 5 to 10%) of the ore concentrate with the addition of water
which smooths the surface of the pellets or creates an outer skin
is formed, which significantly protects the pellets from abrasion during the furnace journey,
the further advantage being obtained that, based on the quantity of ore, it is significant
smaller amounts of these additives, which are undesirable per se, are required.
The deposition of an outer skin is carried out according to the invention
for pellets made of hematite carried out in such a way that an outer skin of fine-grained
Magnetite concentrate is pelletized and this is hardened by reoxidation, d.
H. that the pellets without the accumulation of an outer skin formed especially from foreign substances
initially reoxidized on the surface and thereby converted superficially into hematite
will. This form of hardening by surface oxidation can take place in the rotary kiln
be made by the furnace gases by appropriate excess air
be set oxidizing on the magnetite pellets or in an upstream
Shaft furnace using the exhaust gases leaving the rotary kiln. The hardening
in shaft furnaces has the advantage that they can be used at higher temperatures (for example
900 ° C) can take place without the pellets being mechanically stressed.
