JOHANN PETER BECKER jr. in REMSCHEID. Neue Schlittschuh-Construction, genannt „Selbstanzieher".JOHANN PETER BECKER jr. in REMSCHEID. New ice skate construction, called "self-tightening".
Patentirt im Deutschen Reiche vom 28. August 1877 ab.Patented in the German Empire on August 28, 1877.
The purpose of the present invention is to construct an ice skate which, when put on, makes the help of the hands completely dispensable, which sits firmly and yet light can be removed from the foot again. "
This purpose is achieved by the construction shown in the accompanying drawing.
Fig. Ι is the side view and Fig. 2 is the view of a rail skate from above. A is the rail of the skate, B is the sole of the skate, m is the adjustable bracket and η is the sole bracket.
On the rear part of the sole B, which, made of steel, has its own spring force, a fastening device c is firmly attached at the bottom. It consists of a piece of steel which is cut out flat on the inside in the vertical direction and grips around the rail. The lower halves are connected to one another by a sufficiently strong, firmly riveted pin. This pin moves in an acute-angled cutout // of the rail.
In the middle part of the sole there is an oval cutout e in which the adjustment slide / moves. At the top this slide ends in a thread and below the sole it is movably connected to the guide slide g by a pin or a screw. This slide guide g is movably attached to the rail A by a rivet.
The clamp m, Fig. 6, is fastened by a nut to the slide /, the twisted upper part of which passes through the cutout α in m. The brackets n, Fig. 3, rest in a curve of the front sole part. They, too, are firmly connected to the slide / by means of the adjustment slide E. This slide is T-shaped in the drawing. In front of its wider part it has three oval cutouts, of which the two lateral ones are cut obliquely and the middle one parallel to the rail, and at its rear end a round hole. In the middle of the aforementioned bend, the sole rests on the rail by means of a support h. This support is extended upwards, goes with its middle part through the sole and runs into an oval head cut out below , the size of the center hole of the slide E, but standing at right angles to the rail of the skate. The slide E is fastened to this support i in such a way that it is pushed over i at a right angle to the rail with the central cutout and then the extended part is turned backwards.
The brackets η are in the bend under the slide. The incision k, Fig. 3, in the same is below the BEZW. oblique oval cutouts. The clamps are each fastened to the adjustment slide by a screw /, Fig. 4, by means of a nut p, Fig. 4a. 'This screw is cut straight on two sides under its round head.
The rear part of the slide E becomes with. brought the round cut-out over the twisted part of the slide / and fastened to the heel clamp m by a nut.
If the rear part of the resilient sole is now pressed down, the adjustment slide f and with it the parts attached to its upper end with the nut: heel clamp m and adjustment slide E, slide backwards. As a result of the backward movement of E , the sole clips η are moved inwards due to the sliding of the round screw heads in the oblique oval cutouts.
Before using the skate, the skater has, as when using the known Halifax skate, the heel clamp and the sole clamps the heel and the To adjust the soles of his footwear.
In use, the foot is only placed on the sole of the ice-skate, and the rear, resilient part thereof is moved downward by pressure with the foot. As explained above, the clips then slide backwards and inwards and wedge themselves into the heel and the soles of the footwear. The cross pin of the fastening device c slides in the. acute-angled cut-outs of the rail and, if the pressure is strong enough, jumps behind the tip ο of the cut-out d. This is where it and through it the entire adjustment mechanism is held.
