The invention relates to an electrode for electrochemical processes, in particular for Chlor-alkali electrolysis. The electrode is particularly suitable for very high currents.
...For procedural reasons, electrodes of this type usually have to be of a certain spatial dimension Have shape, e.g. B. to adapt them to the other components of the cell. In particular, the Electrodes often have a relatively large area. If you use homogeneous Shaped body made of passivatable metals, for example made of titanium sheet, with a coating made of noble metal is provided, there are great difficulties with the power supply, since such metals ^ - are bad electrical conductors and the voltage drop within the electrode between the power supply and the surface is too big. ...
It has already been suggested such ^. '; Manufacture electrodes from a highly conductive inner core, which on its outer surfaces with a Support of the inactive electrode metal, e.g. B. of titanium, is provided, which in turn is the precious metal plating wearing. With relatively large spatial dimensions of the electrode, however, manufacturing difficulties arise here, since the highly conductive metal located inside the electrode, e.g. B. copper, must be perfectly sealed against the electrolyte, a requirement that z. B. in the construction difficult to achieve from sheet metal. Furthermore, perfect electrical contact must be made everywhere the leads and the electrode itself.
It has now been found that the object on which the invention is based is particularly advantageous Way can be solved by the fact that the electrode of several with their legs in one Flat lathe rotary loops, which, insulated from one another, form a flat massive one Form body to which the noble metal layer is applied, with several coated wire loops form a unit and the ends of the wires forming a unit to the voltage connection to serve.
The sheath wires create a closed metallic surface of a molded body created, the production of which is much simpler than the construction of a corresponding electrode made of compact metal. The entire body has a relatively high electrical conductivity, see above that a correspondingly small voltage drop occurs in the electrode.

Die Mantelleiter sind hierbei jedoch stets in ihrer Drahtform wirksam, -während gemäß vorliegender Erfindung aus den Drähten ein massiver Formkörper gebildet wird, der eine geschlossene metallische Oberfläche besitzt.an inner core made of copper and a jacket made of titanium with a noble metal coating as electrodes for To use electrochemical processes and to adapt the shape of the cells by bending them accordingly. The sheath wires are here z. B. also bent in a U-shape, or it becomes one from the wires Electrode made in the form of a grid or sieve. However, the sheathed conductors are always here effective in their wire form, while according to the present invention from the wires a solid Shaped body is formed which has a closed metallic surface.
In Fig. 1, an example embodiment of the electrode according to the invention is shown.
This has the shape of a semicircular, relatively thin disk 1, for example with a Diameter of 2 m, and is used in a chlor-alkali electrolysis cell. The disc 1 is according to the invention formed from sheathed wires bent in a loop, only shown schematically. The disc body 1 is z. B. of several elements, of which the elements 5, 6, 7 and 8 are shown are assembled, the ends 9 of each element being led out and as a power supply to serve. The ends of the sheathed wire are outside of the electrolyte, so that through the Jacket layer made of passivatable metal, the lead itself against the action of the electrolyte is protected. The jacket wires are close together, so that a molded body with a closed metallic surface is formed. Between the legs of the loops of the sheathed wire there is an insulating layer in each case.

The cross-section of a round sheathed wire is shown in A b b. 2, namely a soul 2 made of copper with a jacket 3 made of titanium, on which the effective noble metal layer is applied is.
B. Platin, aufzubringen. It is particularly advantageous if the cross section of the sheath wires in the leg section is elliptical or to make rectangular, with the proviso that the larger axis of the ellipse or longer rectangular Side extends in the direction of the adjacent legs. This shaping of the sheath wires can be made before bending the loops, but it is useful to the entire body a Subject to deformation process and then on the outer surface the effective noble metal layer, z. B. platinum to apply.
In the A b b. Figure 3 is a cross-section through leg portions of rectangular cross-section of each Wires shown. The individual wires consist of a rectangular sheath made of passivatable Meao tall, ζ. B. titanium, and an inner conductor 2 made of copper. The active one is applied to the smooth surfaces Layer 4 made of a noble metal is deposited electrolytically or chemically in a manner known per se upset. A direct current transfer between the the legs of the loop-forming jacket wires avoided.
The number of individual segments in the construction of the large-area electrode is dependent on the total amount of current to be supplied is selected, achieved by connecting the elements in parallel is that the voltage drop within the electrode is as low as possible.
