The invention relates to a method of textiles against attack by harmful organisms such as fungi and bacteria, which protection will withstand repeated washes and cleaning operations. In particular, the invention relates to a method for protecting textiles by impregnation with zinc bacitracin or copper bacitracin.
The textile industry has been looking for a suitable means of protecting textiles for a long time, that against exposure to harmful Or- ίο organisms such as fungi, bacteria and insects, during storage and during use and after repeated washes and repeated cleaning operations that eventually end up being those already im Remove commercially available protective agents that are resistant. The problem is caused by the different compositions of the textiles in use and the very different ones Conditions under which they require protection made more difficult. For example is the practical use of textiles that protect against bacterial activity even after repeated washes are, obviously. The antibacterial properties of such textiles contribute to the cause of to reduce body odors caused by bacteria, which in turn is untreated tissue and which thrive due to perspiration and other body secretions. The conversion of urea to ammonia in clothing contaminated with urine and in particular of diapers and towels worn by children or in the undergarments of older people is prevented or reduced. Clothing made from textiles with a bactericidal finish prevents infections caused by fungi. Many connections make you initial protection of the textiles, but they either require a difficult setting process or they are easy to remove from textiles by detergents and solvents and are therefore not general applicable.
Das Textilmaterial kann in geeigneter Weise mit einer der Verbindungen dadurch ausgerüstet werden, daß Verfahren zum Schutz von TextilienIt has been found that zinc bacitracin or copper bacitracin is effective against harmful textiles Organisms such as fungi and bacteria protect when the compounds mentioned are applied to the textiles will. Zinc bacitracin and copper bacitracin adhere so tightly to textiles that they only get under it great difficulty, even not from repeated cleaning with detergents or solvents can be removed. The textile material can suitably with a of the compounds are equipped in that process for the protection of textiles

Anschließend wird das Textilgut getrocknet.it is brought into an aqueous solution of bacitracin which is added a solution of about 1% zinc chloride or copper chloride, whereupon the pH value of the combined solutions with sodium hydroxide is adjusted such that zinc bacitracin or Kupferbacitracin precipitates on the textile material. The textile material is then dried.
The amount of the compounds to be used in the treatment of textiles varies and depends on the type of textile material as well as on the harmful organisms. It has been found that in general concentrations of 0.05 percent by weight, based on the treated material, are sufficient. For some purposes, however, concentrations above 2 percent by weight are desirable. Preferably concentrations of 0.1 to 1 percent by weight of the compounds mentioned are based on the Textile applied.
It has also been found that zinc bacitracin and copper bacitracin are useful for skin and open wounds are harmless. That is why textiles finished with these compounds are special to be used where a high level of hygiene is required, e.g. B. in hospitals, for sanitary towels, bandages or the like
Bacitracin selbst hat aber nicht die Eigenschaft, aufThe effect of bacitracin as a bacterial growth inhibitor in various fields of application is known. So is z. Textile material to adhere firmly, and a textile material impregnated with this gives the bacitracin already at the first wash off again. The salts to be used according to the invention, namely zinc bacitracin and copper bacitracin, on the other hand, have the property of adhering very firmly to textiles, so that a Impregnation with this is still effective even after repeated washes.
To test the resistance of fabric treated with zinc bacitracin, two strips of cotton canvas are placed in an aqueous solution of bacitracin, a 1% solution of zinc chloride is added and the p ir value is adjusted with sodium hydroxide so that zinc bacitracin is deposited on the fabric. After sufficient penetration, the strips are drained and dried. The treated strips contain 0.5 weight percent zinc bacitracin based on the weight of the strips. The strips are washed a total of thirteen times in an automatic washing machine with normal household detergent and then dried. After the thirteenth wash, a disk 25 mm in diameter was cut out of each of the strips. Each disc is then placed separately in a dish with a diameter of 100 mm, each containing 15 ml of an agar culture medium inoculated with 0.1 ml of the organism M. fiavus. The strips are then incubated at 37 ° C for 24 hours. After incubation it was observed that no organism grew on either of the two treated discs. While the growth of the organism 1.7 mm inside the disc was completely prevented on one of the discs, it is 2 mm inside the disc on the other.
The procedure is as in Example 1, but copper chloride is used instead of zinc chloride been. The test shows that neither organism treated with copper bacitracin on either Slices grows. One of the two discs has the growth of bacteria 2.0mm inside the Disc while the other disc prevents the growth of bacteria 1.0mm inside the Disc prevented.
Two discs of untreated cotton canvas with a diameter of 25 mm are washed and dried and examined according to the test procedure described in Example 1. The examination after implementation of the test shows that a large number of organisms grow on the untreated tissue.
