Description
Tubular casing for tubular electrodes of electrical collectors The invention relates to an electrode for galvanic elements, in particular electrical accumulators, with a multitude united by horizontal cross connections, at a distance from one another arranged vertical bars of conductive material, each of which surrounded by active mass and by an overlying one for the electrolyte provided permeable tubular sheath made of electrically insulating material is, this cover is woven from two different materials.
There are already single-layer tubular casings for such Known electrodes made of glass wool fabric, knitted glass threads or braided Glass fibers are made. It has also been proposed to use such tubes made of plastic fabric, - to produce braided or knitted fabric, the threads of polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene, Polyvinyl acetate, polyamide and other plastics can exist. It is also The proposal has already been made to use entire tissue pockets for such electrodes made of thermoplastic material.
A major disadvantage of these tube wrappings is that they that the glass fabric is too rigid and no stretching in the longitudinal or radial direction endures; the tubes therefore burst after some time during operation. Made of plastic threads Manufactured tubes, however, have the disadvantage that they are more or less anodic heavily oxidized and therefore destroyed after a while. It is also suggested have been able to produce tubes consisting of two layers arranged one on top of the other exist. With these envelopes, two glass fabrics can be arranged one on top of the other or it will be a fiberglass fabric on the inside and a perforated plastic pipe on the outside used. You also have the electrodes inside with rolled fiberglass fleece surrounded, the outside by a braided glass fiber tube with plastic is impregnated, is included. Another suggestion extends to a double cover made of fiberglass fabric to impregnate the outer layer with rubber.
The described tubes have the disadvantage that they - insofar as they consist of glass - are not sufficiently resistant to stretching, therefore in operation of the accumulator burst after a while. Unless they are a combination of Made of fiberglass mesh or mesh with perforated plastic, they are both Little stretchable in the longitudinal as well as in the radial direction, so that even with such tubes bursting occurs when pressure is applied due to the expansion of the active material. Such tubes do not grow with the lead rods, which are the arresters of the Represent electrodes, expand in the longitudinal direction in the course of operation. One The consequence of this is a leakage of the active material, which is not at the ends more is covered by the wrapper.
Attempts have also been made as a covering material for electrode plates and tube electrodes to use textiles made of plastic threads and glass threads. Each plate wrap or tube is made in a single operation Threads of an inorganic material (e.g. glass) and an organic material (e.g. thermoplastic plastic) woven, knitted or braided. The combination of plastic threads with glass threads in a single fabric, knitted fabric or braid combines strength with sufficient elongation in the longitudinal and in the radial Direction, however, still does not offer satisfactory protection against anodic Oxidation reactions.
The object of the present invention is to provide a tubular casing for the active mass of the electrodes of lead-acid batteries the above disadvantages do not exist. This tube should come from a single layer, but consist of at least two different materials, whereby the quantity and the properties of these substances are to be coordinated with one another, that on the one hand a resistance to oxidation attacks, especially under action of the electric current, on the other hand sufficient elongation in the longitudinal direction and is present in the radial direction. With this special design, the Combination of the properties of the composite tubes with the advantageous manufacturing conditions the single-layer tubes are aimed at. This task was solved according to the invention in that the tube envelopes have a textile structure have, in the case of an oxidation- and acid-resistant on the inside of the envelope Material, on the outside a firm, elastic, stretchable and acid-resistant Material predominates. As a result, these tube sheaths have sufficient strength and ductility long life. As an oxidation and acid-resistant material In particular, glass fibers or threads have proven their worth. If you don't or only If only few twisted glass wool threads are used, they are so wide that they are in the fabric no larger pores can arise. The textile structure obtained therefore has a particularly good filter effect, which helps to prevent sludge formation active mass and essential for good electrolyte penetration is. As a solid, elastically stretchable and acid-resistant material, for example Mixed polymer of acrylonitrile and vinyl chloride, polyethylene, polyester, polycarbonate and similar plastics.
The subject matter of the invention can, for example, be in the following types Be realized: 1. When making the tubes consist of weaving threads the warp threads are made exclusively from glass wool threads, each thread being made up of several glass fibers can consist, for example, up to four hundred. The weft threads consist of plastic threads made of thermoplastic material. By special weave, z. B. by the warp thread skips several weft threads and thus not from the adjacent, but is only caught by the second, third or fourth etc. weft thread, can can be achieved that the inside of the tube is predominantly made of oxidation-resistant Glass fibers are made, while the outside of the tube consists predominantly of plastic fibers is formed.
The chain consists only of plastic threads. The weft threads exist only made of multi-fiber glass threads. Here, too, the structure of the tube can be adjusted so that on the inside predominantly glass threads, there are predominantly plastic threads on the outside. For example, can instead of the closest warp thread always only the second, third, fourth, etc. Thread are grasped from the inside, so that the weft thread is initially under several warp threads runs through it (glass inwards) and then grasps a warp thread from the outside (plastic inside).
Warp thread made of plastic, weft thread partly made of plastic, for Part as glass wool threads: For example, plastic and glass threads can be each other alternate, or on two plastic threads, one glass thread or vice versa on two Glass threads and plastic threads are not required. The above-described can also be used here Apply special weave to this way the inside of the tube mainly made of fiberglass, the outside of plastic threads.
The embodiments according to Examples 1 and 3 can be in the manner be combined so that both the warp threads and the weft threads are partly off Glass threads, partly made of plastic threads.
Braid of threads, for example 24-ply braid: one part these threads are made of plastic and the rest of glass threads. Every glass thread is composed of several glass fibers. The plastic threads can consist of several Monofilament threads (e.g. four to six times ply) or one made of endless plastic threads existing synthetic silk or threads made from staple fibers. For example, eight such plastic fiber threads with sixteen glass fiber threads be intertwined (ratio thereby, assuming the same width of the threads, 1: 2). According to this, 66% of the outer and inner surfaces consist of glass and 33 ° / o made of plastic. In the manner shown, threads made of different Plastics with threads from different types of glass or asbestos and the like woven together, - be knitted or braided.
