Process for the manufacture of cores for foundry purposes. Object
The invention is a method of making cores for foundry purposes under
Use of a molded body made of low-melting-point material corresponding to the cavity of the casting
Metal with a covering made of a fiber fabric.
In the cavities of a casting mold, z. B. an ordinary,
consisting of baked sand, the outline shape of a passage to be made
corresponding core or shaped body, which after solidification of the poured metal
is removed in compliance with special measures. In general, the
Foundry cores made from molding compound are used. For the production of difficultly designed,
such as B. long, narrow, winding or branched passages in castings
it is also known to optionally have a heat-resistant coating, e.g.
B. graphite mixed with water glass or an alloy containing copper, encased

has assumed a sufficient dimensionally stable condition. It's also known for
to use difficult-to-use hollow spaces in castings made of metal tube cores,
which are provided with a cover made of a heat-resistant glass fiber fabric
and finally be etched away by acid.
According to the invention, one does not need that in its melting point
Alloy close to casting metal to be selected for the mandrel; the thorn becomes
also not melted out by the heat of the casting metal.
In the new process, a molding is made from a low-melting point
Metal with a fabric consisting of a fiber fabric, when stretched in the longitudinal direction
stretching and thereby diametrically contracting envelope surround the tissue
coated with a hardening, refractory mass, the coating mass dried
and hardened and then the molded body made of low melting point metal before inserting
of the core melted out of the solidified envelope in the casting mold. Here
a binder can optionally be added to the coating composition, which in the
Pouring off the mold burns.

Legie- Schmelz-
rung Punkt Bi Pb Sn Cd
°C
A 70 50 26,7 13,3 10
B 138 58 0 42 0
C 150 40 0 60 0
For example, the generally cylindrical, hollow envelope (FIG. 1) is expediently made of a more or less loose fiber fabric with a bone-like pattern of braided or interwoven threads, fibers or strands 2. These consist of silica or other ceramic material, e.g. B. for casting light metals such as Mg, Al or their alloys made of soda-lime glass or borosilicate glass, or made of metal, e.g. B. copper or stainless steel, and must be resistant to the heat of the cast metal. The wall 1 with a thickness of about 0.1 to 1 mm, generally about 0.2 mm, is permeable to gases. When stretching or pulling longitudinally to both sides, the cross-section of the sheath is evenly reduced, so that it can easily adapt to the shape and shape of the mandrel 3 (FIG. 2) that is surrounded by it. This has a cross-section which, together with that of the casing and the coating compound, corresponds to the passage in the casting. The following alloys, for example, are suitable for manufacturing the mandrel: Alloy melting
tion point Bi Pb Sn Cd
° C
A 70 50 26.7 13.3 10
B 138 58 0 42 0
C 150 40 0 60 0
About the according to Fig. 2, for example, U-shaped mandrel 3 is in their. Sheath 4, which extends beyond this and consists of the fiber fabric, whose protruding ends are then linked by means of a cord 12, 13 (as shown in FIG. 3) so that they do not slide off or fray. In order to achieve a smooth surface, the fibrous covering 4 is coated with a molding coating 9. This is z. B. a shellac solution. For particular resistance to the effects of heat, it is also advisable to apply a uniform refractory coating 9, e.g. B. in a thickness of about 0.1 to 0.5 mm for a core with a diameter of 6 mm and a length of about 300 mm, optionally in several spreads, which is hardened by drying in one or more operations, so that the envelope is then easy to handle and can be used as a hollow core after removing the mandrel. Such coating compositions contain z. B. clay substances mixed in a liquid, such as bentonite, and / or refractory components such as sand, a refractory oxide or a silicate such as zirconium sand. When exposed to heat, e.g. B. when melting out the mandrel or drying at a temperature of up to 315 ° C, the further solidification of the envelope occurs. For the purpose of further stiffening, plastic molding material, such as sand, can be filled into the envelope. B. phenolic resins, which later burns out during casting, is mixed.
The core produced with or without filling is then put into a casting mold
used. The core marks 7 and 8 extend to marks 5 and 6. After pouring
the shape and solidification of the casting metal, the casting is removed from the mold.
The core filling as well as the coating, which has become crumbly during pouring, are knocked on
loosened and the wrapping removed by pulling at one end. Here stretches
it extends lengthways, contracts diametrically, moves away from the
Wall of the passage formed by the core and lets this slide off
free of the casting. Possibly still remaining mold wash can
from the passage, if magnesium or a magnesium alloy was cast,
can be removed by a 30% hydrofluoric acid solution. Cleaning can also be done with
Done with the help of ultrasound.
Cores with branches can also be produced according to the invention. For this purpose, openings 14, 15 corresponding to the diameters of these branches are provided in the casing 16, to which the branch pieces 18, 19 (FIG. 4) are cast or welded. The casing 16, the protruding ends 20, 21 of which are already tied together, is now also pushed over the branches 18, 19, and its protruding ends 22, 23 are tied together there. The casing 16, which now completely surrounds the mandrel, can be stiffened by a smoothing size or coating compound which, as described, cemented the fibers to one another after drying. After the coating 17 has hardened, the ends 20, 21, 22, 23 with the ends 24, 25, 26, 27 of the mandrel are cut off. When the mandrel is melted out, this coating 17 is further stiffened or hardened. Then the branched core is ready for use in a conventional shape.
