So far gelatin could not be coated with an iridescent layer, because it completely absorbs the liquid of the bath producing the iridescent effect, whereby the effect of iridescence is lost or soon disappears again. From this behavior Apart from the gelatine, the iridescence could not come into its own for the reason that the gelatine was transparent is. The subject of the present invention now forms a method according to which Gelatin foils are subjected to a pretreatment that makes it possible to use them with to provide an iridescent coating. Following this procedure, the gelatin sheets are made before immersion, in the bath that produces the iridescent effect with an insulating layer Covered with chalk, barite, metal bronze, wood fiber, zinc white or the like, which, by closing the pores of the gelatin film, prevents the liquid from penetrating into the gelatin and at the same time serves as an opaque background.
Die Isolirschicht wird nach folgendem Verfahren hergestellt:The insulating layer is produced according to the following process:
Zur Erzielung einer geeigneten Grundfarbe setzt man entsprechende Anilinfarben zu.4 parts of spirit are mixed with 2 parts of water, and one part is added to this mixture of the above insulating materials. This mixture can also contain gelatin or the like Substances are added. In order to achieve a suitable basic color, appropriate ones are used Aniline colors too.
*After this mixture has been applied to the gelatine sheets by brushing, it runs they are dried, and then the part which has not penetrated the gelatine is rubbed of the insulating material with a soft cloth until a smooth surface is obtained. That However, the insulating layer can also be applied in any other desired manner. *
After the gelatine sheets have been coated with an insulating layer, they are immersed the same in a bath, which is best composed as follows:
A nitro-cellulose solution is poured in best a mixture of 1 part nitrocellulose, 75 parts 95 per cent. Spirit and 20 parts Put ether in a vessel with water, preferably with the smallest possible water level, and immerse it the prepared leaves in this bath. If you pull these leaves out of the bath a fine, thin skin forms, which when dry the well-known iridescent Shows rainbow colors.
The bath producing the iridescent effect can also be of a different composition; an addition of gasoline produces beautiful effects, as does a bath consisting of approximately 10 parts of potassium silicate dissolved in 90 parts of water.
The iridescent liquid can also be spread or poured on.
