Multi-layer glass From the German patent specification 953 193 , a method for producing a multi-layer glass with an intermediate layer that reversibly changes its optical properties when the temperature and / or the illuminance or the magnetic or electric field changes is known. It consists in adding the following substances to the intermediate layer: a) salts containing water of crystallization, which change color when their water content changes, b) a mixture of indicators and salts with a temperature-dependent pa value, e) a mixture of substances with a temperature-dependent content water of crystallization or co-chemically bound water and substances with limited water absorption capacity, d) a mixture of heterogeneous substances with the same refractive power at a certain temperature, but different temperature coefficients of the refractive indices, e) one or more substances whose solubility in one or more components of the intermediate layer decreases when the temperature rises or increases when the temperature drops, or finally f) bodies aligning themselves in a magnetic or electric field.
In the case of the interlayer composition according to a) to e), the reversible color change or clouding occurs under the influence of temperature, e.g. B. the influence of radiant heat (solar waves) instead. According to the proposal of German Patent 939 595 , the intermediate layer can also be heated in an artificial way by means of heating wires incorporated into the layer or by applying an alternating current to electrodes incorporated into the layer. The coloration or clouding of the layer, which is independent of the outside temperature and which is possible as a result, is important for some areas of application of the glass, e.g. B. when at low outside temperature only a glare from bright sunlight is to be prevented. A photocell can serve as a control element.
It has now been shown that a particularly rapid coloring or change of color or clouding of the layer can be achieved by exposing it to the action of a field of high-frequency electromagnetic vibrations, preferably with a wavelength below 300 in, and / or mechanical vibrations (ultrasound). is exposed.
This can e.g. B. done in such a way that the multilayer glass is placed between fine-meshed wire nets, which serve as capacitor linings. The capacitor coatings can, however, also by transparent, electrically conductive thin metal coatings or metal oxide layers, such as. B. tin oxide layers are formed, which are applied in a known manner to the Sihkatglascover panels. A completely transparent multilayer glass pane according to the invention can be produced in such a way that, as capacitor coatings, clear, transparent, moist plastic layers made conductive by salts in a known manner, e.g. B. acetal layers are used, which are applied to the cover panes of the multilayer glass and in turn covered by panes of glass. In a particular embodiment, the capacitor plates, which can also consist in this case of wires, may be formed in the form of letters or figures, so that then only the pads corresponding partial coloring or deterioration of the intermediate layer takes place, thereby causing for advertising purposes appropriate effects can be.
The supply of the high-frequency current takes place in all embodiments expediently via a plastic made conductive in a known manner with metal or metal oxide powder, consisting, for. B. made of epoxy resin mixed with copper or aluminum powder, which is introduced into an approximately 1 cm wide, layer-free joint on the edge of the multilayer glass. It is also possible to have the high-frequency field act intermittently, which can be used to achieve special effects or to save electricity.
Drahtglas). If ultrasonic energy is used to color or make the intermediate layer cloudy, this is transferred to the glass or the intermediate layer by methods known per se. The technical progress compared to the subject of the German patent specification 939 595 consists primarily in the fact that the increase in temperature which brings about the change in the light transmittance of the glass comes about directly in the intermediate layer itself and therefore takes place particularly quickly and evenly. Furthermore, no heating elements or electrodes have to be inserted into the intermediate layer, which is known to be technically not very easy, it is much more sufficient to arrange the glasses themselves without special feed lines between the wire nets or to use glasses as cover plates for the intermediate layer, in the mass of which wire nets are already melted are (so-called wired glass).
