Process for the biological purification of acidic wastewater by means of
aerobic activated sludge in wood processing plants, textile factories, vegetable and fruit canning factories,
Or paper mills
organic, in particular carbon-containing substance are loaded.
Such wastewater is already after the activated sludge process
been treated. However, this treatment was very expensive due to the need to
to neutralize the wastewater before treatment and during biological treatment
to maintain a neutral pH value, as well as due to the large amounts of nitrogen,
other nutrients and air that were necessary for favorable living conditions
for the microorganisms of the activated sludge. One has already tried
such wastewater after dilution and with intensive aeration in trickling filters
to deacidify and clean, with nutrient salts and inoculants added to the wastewater
became.
The results achieved with this type of cleaning of acidic wastewater
however, were not enough to justify the high cost of such treatment.
Apart from the fact that dilution water is not always available in sufficient quantities
stands, it was also found with this type of purification of acidic wastewater that, measured
at success, the need for nutrient salts and air is very great.
verwendbar.According to the invention, the disadvantages indicated in a method
for the biological cleaning of those loaded with a high content of organic matter
acidic wastewater by means of aerobic activated sludge with the addition of nutrients
avoided that the wastewater in an undiluted state with a predominantly of mold
existing sludge are mixed and the mixture, in which a pH value below 6.5,
is preferably set between 6.5 and 3.5, in a manner known per se
is ventilated. The pH can be adjusted by adding mineral acids, preferably
of sulfuric acid and / or phosphoric acid or their salts can be adjusted.
If necessary, the sewage or the sludge-water mixture can add nutrients
for the molds in the form of nitrogen and / or phosphorus-containing compounds
are fed. Ammonia or urea and phosphoric acid can be used as nutrients
be used. Ammonium phosphate, supplemented with ammonia or urea, is also available
usable.
erforderlich. Das Verhältnis BSB : N lautet hier 40: 1. Analog ist das Verhältnis
von BSB : P (Phosphor) beim bekannten Belebtschlammverfahren 80: 1, dagegen beim
erfindungsgemäßen Verfahren 160: 1.The molds thrive at a pH value between 4.0 and 6.5,
and even a pH below 3.5 has no noticeable influence on their activity
the end. This is very important for the economic efficiency of the process, since acidic wastewater
previously had to be neutralized if the usual activated sludge process
was applied. The molds also only need half as many nutrients, e.g.
B. nitrogen and phosphorus compounds, such as the microorganisms in the usual activated sludge process.
For example, in the known activated sludge process, the ratio between
biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) and nitrogen content (N) of the wastewater for example
Be 20: 1, i.e. H. that for z. B. 20 kg to be broken down biochemical oxygen demand
1 kg of nitrogen must be present in the wastewater. In the method according to the invention
on the other hand, for every 40 kg of biochemical oxygen demand to be broken down, only 1 kg of nitrogen is required
necessary. The ratio BOD: N is 40: 1 here. The ratio is analogous
of BOD: P (phosphorus) in the known activated sludge process 80: 1, in contrast to the
method according to the invention 160: 1.
in Kilogramm BSB, abgebaut in 24 Stunden je Kubikmeter Belüftungsvolumen, waren
beim bekannten Belebtschlammverfahren je Kilogramm abzubauenden biochemischen Sauerstoffbedarfs
In order to be exactly comparable with regard to the air requirement compared to the known

Consideration of the above figures shows that after just 5 weeks of uninterrupted circulation, the total content of dissolved solids in the inlet had decreased from an average of 15,700 mg / 1 to 10,500 mg / 1 and that the total content of dissolved solids in the outlet was only 9,100 on average mg / 1, i.e. less than two thirds of the original average dissolved solids content in the enema. In this case, complete or almost complete decomposition of the organic dissolved substance was not required. biological sludge is mixed and aerated and the treated wastewater is continuously separated from the sludge and withdrawn. If necessary, nitrogen and phosphorus compounds are continuously added to the aerated mixture of sewage and sludge. When a large amount of sludge has been produced by microorganisms, part of the sludge is removed continuously or at certain time intervals in order to maintain a desired sludge concentration. The sludge concentration can be much higher than with the activated sludge process. Example 1 Treatment of a wood processing waste water with a pH value of 4.5 and a content of 15.7 g / 1 dissolved substance, which mainly consisted of sugar and some organic acids, while almost no nitrogen and only 10 mg / 1 phosphorus is present was. The purpose of the treatment was to remove enough of the solute to allow the water to be reused in the plant. Ventilation time .................... 12.5 hours

The examples show that the new process is capable of biodegrading large amounts of biochemical oxygen demand in wastewater that cannot easily be treated with the aid of the activated sludge process or other biological methods.
