Description
The invention relates to a method for the electrodeposition of metal layers rare metals, especially radioactive metals, and also to a device for implementation this procedure.
It is known per se in electroplating for a method for the deposition of metal layers to wet an inactive, absorbent material with the solution of the metal to be deposited and to press this absorbent material onto the cathode with anodic switching. This measure is z. B. made when small metal surfaces or attached metal parts, which in this case then do not need to be dismantled, galvanized or if an easily transportable one Device is required so that the device is as compact as possible, or in those cases where an electroplating in a device with the help of electrolyte-fed, spreading quickly over the surface moving elements takes place. The invention is based on the knowledge that such The process also has particular advantages when precipitating rare metals, because in this way significantly less metal is lost and thinner, more uniform layers can be deposited than the method in which the metal is deposited from an aqueous electrolyte solution. Further If radioactive metals are used, cleaning the equipment is less of a problem.
However, there is a risk that the deposited metal will partially dissolve again if after an interruption of the electroplating current after the desired layer has been deposited on the cathode is, this is flushed, whereby holes are formed in the deposited metal layer.
According to the invention, this disadvantage is eliminated by the fact that the flushing is carried out without interrupting the electroplating current is made.
As an anode z. B. graphite or a rare metal is used. Although the procedure according to the Invention any kind of inactive, absorbent material, such as filter paper, asbestos sheets, porous sintered ceramic material and glass fibers, can be used, preferably a gel such as a silica gel, a pectin gel, hydrated starch, gelatin or gelatin-containing materials used because a more uniform coating layer is achieved by using such gels.
Eine Vorrichtung zur Durchführung des Verfahrens nach der Erfindung, bestehend aus einer mit einem inaktiven, absorbierenden Material bedeckten Anode, einer Kathode von gleicher Form wie das inaktive, absorbierende Material und Mittel, durch welche die Kathode mit dem inaktiven, absorbierenden Material Verfahren und VorrichtungA device for performing the method according to the invention, consisting of a with an inactive, absorbent material covered anode, a cathode of the same shape as the inactive one, absorbent material and means by which the cathode with the inactive absorbent material Method and device

In the drawing, an apparatus is shown in section, by means of which the method according to the invention can be carried out in a suitable manner. 1 denotes a gelatin layer which is wetted with a solution of Fe 55 Cl 3 in hydrochloric acid. The layer 1 lies on a graphite anode 2 which is attached to a metal electrode 3.
Das verunreinigte Wasser 12 wirdThe copper plate 4, which has the same surface dimensions as the layer 1 has, represents the cathode and is attached to the electrode 5. Using the With the handle 6, the cathode 4 is pressed against the layer 1, the electrode 5 being guided by the guideways 7. The handle 6 and the guideway 7 are made of an electrically non-conductive material such as synthetic resin. Through the ladder 8 and 9 a voltage of 3 V is applied between the anode 2 and the cathode 5 for 2 minutes. On it will the apparatus without removing the tension with water from a pipe 10 through the openings 11 splashed through. The contaminated water 12 is

Collected via the opening 13 in the glass vessel 14. The electrodes are then disconnected and rinsed, whereupon the voltage is removed. A thin layer of Fe 55 has then deposited on the copper.
