Description
Water-in-oil type emulsion for temporary corrosion protection of metals It is known to treat metal surfaces with the help of anti-rust paints, To permanently protect paints or varnishes from corrosion. But it is often necessary To protect metals or metal objects temporarily from corrosion, and for this are Anti-rust paints or varnishes are not suitable because the metal objects before use are difficult to clean from these firmly adhering paints.
It is also known that metal surfaces can be applied by applying a thin film of solutions of surfactants in hydrocarbons can protect against corrosion by air or water vapor for a certain period of time. Such Surfactants are z. B. partial fatty acid or resin acid esters polyvalent Alcohols and sulfonic acid or carboxylic acid or resin acid soaps.
There are still some essential shortcomings in these last remedies, in particular that the anti-corrosion effect of the surface-active Substances is relatively limited. Furthermore, it is often necessary to use solvents or to add other substances that do not in themselves have any corrosion-inhibiting effect, to only those in hydrocarbons at room temperature usually only to dissolve slightly soluble surface-active protective substances. Similar difficulties occur when these agents contain solid hydrocarbons, waxes, amines, alcohols and the like should be incorporated.
Another disadvantage of these protective agents is that they if they are solid at room temperature, only in a dissolved or molten state can be applied.
It has now been found that metals are more effective against oxidation can protect if one is made of hydrocarbons and surfactants applies existing mixtures or solutions in the form of water-in-oil emulsions. It is irrelevant for the anti-corrosion effect whether the agent is before or are stable as emulsions after application to the metal surface, but It is only important that it is in the form of a water-in-oil emulsion at the moment of application are present.
It was surprising and in no way predictable that hydrous Means show a pronounced protection against corrosion, since in general the water Initiates or promotes corrosion. The special corrosion protection of the emulsions probably comes about by the fact that the oil film, as the surface-active Preferably collect and orient substances at their interface, faster and more thoroughly is bound to the metal surface.
Obviously, this preferred state also remains received when the emulsified water has partially or completely evaporated.
The starting materials are liquid, paste-like or solid hydrocarbons of any origin as well as such surface-active substances or their mixtures are suitable, which give water-in-oil type emulsions with water. Other protective substances, such as B. organic sulfur or nitrogen compounds or phenols or terpene hydrocarbons, the network effect promoting substances such. B. alcohols, thinners and thickeners and other substances may be present as long as they do not alter the character of the emulsion change. In addition, substances can also be used that reduce the pE value adapt to the emulsion for specific purposes.
The advantage of the corrosion protection agent according to the invention consists except in the improved protective effect, especially with increased moisture content and elevated temperature, e.g. B. in that one other substances that are used in the Hydrocarbon are only soluble or dispersible at elevated temperature without Can incorporate the aid of solvents. This can be achieved, for example by making the emulsion in the heat and thereby the individual components, depending on their properties, dissolves or disperses in the hydrocarbon or in water. If solvents are used at the same time, such substances can also be incorporated which are soluble or dispersible in the optionally heated liquid mixture are.
The protective agents according to the invention also have the advantage that their consistency is achieved by using suitable ingredients or suitable proportions any water and other substances and any desired type of application, z. B. brushing, spraying or dipping, can be adjusted. So z. B. thin liquid media Converted into viscous pastes or solid substances into thin-bodied emulsions at will will.
