Description

Soaking of hides and skins It is known that soaking of Hides and skins can be promoted through various additives to the soft water. There are z. B. soft broths described, the sodium hydroxide solution, sodium sulfide, sodium sulfhydrate or sodium sulphate. Due to their alkalinity, these agents cause undesirable effects Signs of swelling and allow the softening process to take place in a pH range go, in which the bacterial growth is increased. It is also known the soft by adding mercaptocarboxylic acids or their salts to the soft stock to accelerate. The disadvantages of using these compounds are that with sharply dried hides and skins a sufficient loosening, d. H. Removal of the fiber bonding is not achieved in a relatively short time. Little full leather with a hard feel and rough grain is obtained.

It has now been found that one can overcome the difficulties outlined above can be remedied by soaking tough, tough skins with low molecular weight mercaptoalkanesulfonic acids or their salts.

Suitable mercaptoalkanesulfonic acids are 2-mercaptoethanesulfonic acid, 1,3-mercaptopropanesulfonic acid, 1,3-mercaptobutanesulfonic acid, 1,4-mercaptobutanesulfonic acid. These sulfonic acids are advantageously used in the form of their water-soluble salts at. They are particularly suitable in the form of their alkali or ammonium salts or in Form of salts of organic bases, such as salts of dimethylamine, triethanolamine, Diethanolamine.

Furthermore, the softening process is favorably influenced by the fact that the mercaptoalkanesulfonic acids according to the invention in conjunction with anion-active or uses non-ionic wetting agents.

Der Netzmittelzusaitz beträgt 0,5 bis 1 g/1.The addition of the mercaptoalkanesulfonic acids according to the invention or of their salts to the soft water take place in amounts of 0.05 to 1 g / l. The wetting agent additive is 0.5 to 1 g / l.

Apart from the advantages already mentioned above, the mercaptoalkanesulfonic acids have compared to the known mercaptocarboxylic acids the further advantage that they are in a lot lower concentrations are effective. Even so, the soft speed is through the easy penetration of the sulfonic acids according to the invention or their salts greater than that of the mercaptocarboxylic acids.

Beispiele 1. Dried goat skins are with a solution of 0.1 g / 1 of the triethanolamine salt of 1,4-mercaptobutanesulfonic acid soaked in the barrel. To A perfect turnout is reached within 3 days. The water uptake was 124%. On the other hand, when 0.5 g of sodium thioglycolate was added, the water uptake was lower 3 days only 107%.

Sun-dried buffalo skin is soaked with 0.5 g / l of 1,3-mercaptopropane sulfonic acid Dimethylamine and 0.2g / 1 of a commercial wetting agent z. B. alkyl sulfonate or Alkyl benzene sulfonate. When the soak is complete (about 2 days) you get a special one well-loosened, evenly soaked rawhide.
