Abstract

The differential unit (1) is part of the drive train of a vehicle and used for the transmission of torque from the drive shaft to two side shafts. It comprises a cage (2) assembled of a cylindrical part and a lid inserted into the opening of the housing as well as a flange (5) for being joined to a crown wheel. The cage (2) accommodates two rotating side shaft gears (12) and at least two differential gears (8) meshing with the side shaft gears (12) and positioned between them. The lid is held tolerance free inside the cylindrical part.
