Abstract
The impact energy absorbing device (1) is positioned in the region of the wheel housing for an automobile wheel and has force storage element (3) for operation of a plastically-deformable deformation body (4), moved from a rest position (A), in which it is held by a releasable restraint (10), into a deformation position in response to a collision impact. A fixing device blocks the deformation body in its deformation position and a stop (6,6') limits its movement in the direction of the automobile wheel.
