Abstract

In a papermaking assembly a feed of fibrous suspension is discharged from a headbox and sandwiched between two moving sieve drums (2, 3) with water suction assemblies above and below. The suction interface is sub-divided into zones by transverse battens. The suction power (p) is regulated in each zone. The first zone in the direction of travel has skimmer battens top (6) and bottom (7). The top skimmer has variable suction power over the width (B). The top skimmer operates at a pre set pressure of 2-6 kPa near the outer margins and at a different pressure between the outer margins. Also claimed is a commensurate assembly.
