Abstract

To finish the surface of a paper web, in an in-line papermaking assembly (10), it is produced on a papermaking machine (11) and then passed through a calender (12) with a number of nips to polish the web. The next station has a curtain applicator (13) to coat the paper surface, followed by a final surface polishing station (14) with two relatively soft or relatively hard rollers to give a final gloss.
