The invention relates to a basic concept of driving an active subwoofer with two identical woofer chassis. Instead of a woofer, two woofers should be controlled in such a way that a reproduction that is as precise as possible in the bass range is achieved and that the sound is radiated from the two woofers directly to the exterior. This invention finds application in subwoofers, since just limited internal volume in small cases is a limiting factor in bass reproduction. Conventional bass enhancement devices have been extensively described in the literature, eg, "Speaker Construction," Vance Dickason, Elektor-Verlag In the publications (i) US 5,815,589 A and (ii) US 5,147,986 A are two woofer chassis housed in a common chamber and acoustically operated in anti-phase.

dem Designkonzept (i) bzw.
To

In these systems, however, due to an acoustically antiphase

Problems is given below.
in 1 näher erklären.
entgegen. The problem of the flexibility of the air in a closed box, especially in the bass reproduction, can be seen from the illustration in 1 explain in detail. At high levels is due to the relatively large diaphragm deflection and the area, the volume of air that is moved from the chassis C1, particularly large and the volume of air in the box, which opposes the diaphragm assembly, relatively small. This creates a back pressure in the interior, depending on the direction in which the membrane is moving (compression or extension of the air). These forces counteract a linear diaphragm deflection as a function of the drive control.
Of the
maximum back pressure in a closed housing corresponds to the peak of the diaphragm deflection.
For this reason, at high levels, the use of certain

Episode. In a bass reflex system ensures a tube (Helmholzresonator)
or a passive membrane a certain "breathability" in the interior, which
this braking effect on the membrane at high levels is somewhat weakened, which
in an extended range of motion of the membrane at the same distortion
results. conventional
Subwoofer systems of the type mentioned above are usually based on
a single "main chassis" -C1, but so too
as two or more identical woofers either in a parallel
or series connection or as a push / pull or compound arrangement
is realized.
Aufgabe

Blockschaltbild in 2 erklärt.

In a push-pull drive, two woofers, namely C1 and C2, are housed in a single chamber regardless of their arrangement and are acoustically out of phase with two amplifiers, as shown in FIG 2 is shown. Antiphase membrane movement of C1 and C2 causes the air pressure in the interior of the box can not be changed. This system is already known in the literature as an isobaric system. The movement of the two membranes is mutually "dynamically supported" by the acoustic coupling, with one membrane touching the other re changeable pushes or pulls. This would solve the problem of backpressure. In addition, the decay behavior of the two membranes is mutually influenced in a pulse excitation. However, no bass sound is emitted frontally since the antiphase drive causes an acoustic short circuit between C1 and C2. In order to exploit enumerated advantages of the push-pull drive, and in order to be able to radiate the sound from the front, the system is modified according to the invention as described in US Pat 2 is shown that at the input of one of the two amplifiers, the original sound signal Ug (t), and at the input of the other of the two amplifiers its differentiated value, mathematically d / dt [Ug (t)], by means of a differentiating circuit as a precursor, is fed ,
In the following, an application example of the invention with reference to 3 explained in more detail. It is a subwoofer system with DPP drive shown. A subwoofer is realized in the interest of maximum sound precision as a closed box. Although closed constructions clink at high levels clearly, but show a much better decay behavior compared to all resonant systems such as the bass reflex concept. Two identical bass chassis are operated acoustically in opposite phase with two amplifiers. In order to realize DPP drive, assuming a sinusoidal input signal, a pre-stage is now used as a phase filter, which has to ensure a constant phase shift of the signal Ug (t) of 90 degrees in the entire transmission range of the subwoofer.
