Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to new, herbicidally active alkylthio, alkylsulfinyl and Alkylsulfonyl derivatives, processes for their preparation, agents containing these compounds included, as well as their use for weed control, especially in Crops or to inhibit plant growth in general (Total herbicide).
Substituted 5-hydroxy-2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-4- (pyridine-3-carbonyl) cyclohex-4-en-1,3-dione with herbicidal activity are described, for example, in WO 00/39094. Are also out WO 00/39094 certain 3-mercapto-2- (2-methyl-6- trifluoromethyl-pyridine-3-carbonyl) -cyclohex-2-enone known, such as that 2- (2-methyl-6-trifluoromethyl-pyridine-3-carbonyl) -3-phenylsulfanyl-cyclohex-2-enone or that 3-phenylsulfinyl-2- (2-methyl-6-trifluoromethyl-pyridin-3-carbonyl) cyclohex-2-enone. In the However, compounds specifically disclosed in WO 00/39094 can address the general The requirements for a selective herbicide are not always sufficient.
In this reaction, the salt of the formula IIIa can either be used as such or preferably formed in situ in the reaction mixture from the alkylthio compound of the formula III by adding a corresponding base. The reaction is therefore preferably carried out in the presence of bases such as triethylamine, lithium hexamethyldisilazane, sodium hydride or potassium carbonate, and in the presence of an inert, preferably aprotic solvent such as, for. B. acetonitrile, dimethylformamide or N-methylpyrrolidone, or in tetrahydrofuran, dioxane, ethanol or dichloromethane, depending on the base used. When using the free thio compound of the formula III, the base is used in a stoichiometric amount or in a slight excess, the temperatures between about -25 ° C. and the boiling point of the diluent used, but preferably between about 10 ° C. and about 60 ° C. Suitable oxidizing agents for the preparation of the compounds of the formula I, in which p is 1 or 2, are in particular hydrogen peroxide in water or in organic acids, for. B. acetic acid or trifluoroacetic acid, or peracids, e.g. B. m-chloroperbenzoic acid, peracetic acid or trifluoroperacetic acid, in question, with peracids preferably in an inert organic solvent, for. This reaction also takes place at temperatures between approximately -25 ° C. and the boiling point of the diluent used, but preferably between approximately 10 ° C. and approximately 60 ° C. If sulfine compounds O = S (R) - are produced, the oxidizing agent is used in an almost stoichiometric amount and the reaction temperature is kept between -20 ° C and approx. 40 ° C. If a sulfone of the formula SO 2 (R) - is prepared, at least two equivalents or a slight excess of the oxidizing agent are used and the reaction is carried out at temperatures of about 0 ° C. and about 80 ° C.

To 10 g (26 mmol) of 4- (6-difluoromethyl-2-methyl-pyridine-3-carbonyl) -5-hydroxy-2,2,6,6- tetramethyl-cyclohex-4-en-1,3-dione (produced according to WO 00/39094, mp 124-125 ° C) are dissolved in 150 ml of methylene chloride and 2.7 ml of oxalyl chloride (31 mmol) and then added dropwise at a temperature of 40 ° C 0.1 ml of dimethylformamide. After 1.5 Hours at a temperature of 40 ° C the reaction mixture in n-hexane added and successively once with 30% sodium chloride solution and water washed. Then the reaction mixture after treatment with sodium sulfate evaporated in vacuo. The residue is dissolved in a little warm methylene chloride. The addition of hexane crystallizes the 5- [chloro-4- (6-difluoromethyl-2-methyl-pyridin-3-yl) - methylene] -2,2,4,4-tetramethyl-cyclohexane-1,3,5-trione; the melting point is 129- 130 ° C. From the mother liquor is obtained by further separation by crystallization 5-10% ethyl acetate in hexane, the isomer 6- [chloro- (6-difluoromethyl-2-methyl-pyridin-3-yl) - methylene] -2,2,4,4-tetramethyl-cyclohexane-1,3,5-trione, m.p. 111-113 ° C.
At a temperature of 20 ° C 0.315 g (4.5 mmol) of sodium methanethiolate are now added in portions and still stirred at 30 ° C for 1 hour. The reaction mixture is then on a silica gel column applied and eluted with hexane / ethyl acetate 3: 1 as the eluent and on Rotation evaporator almost completely restricted. This is crystallized by adding hexane pure 5-methylthio-2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-4- (2-methyl-6-difluoromethyl-pyridine-3-carbonyl) - cyclohex-4-ene-1,3-dione from; the melting point is 101.5-102 ° C.
