Durch das Auflaufen der Rolle (10) auf die Hubkurve (12) des Linearnockens (9) ergibt sich dadurch ein mehr oder weniger großer Ventilhub oder ein mehr oder weniger langer Ventilöffnungswinkel. Durch das Verdrängen der Rolle (10), gelagert im Schlepphebel (7), weicht der Schlepphebel (7) um den Drehpunkt der Kugelpfanne am Kipphebel (3) zugewandten Ende des hydraulischen Ventilspielausgleichs (8) aus und dadurch entsteht ein Ventilhub am Ventil (6). Eine nicht näher bezeichnete Hilfsfeder belastet den Kipphebel (3) mit der Rolle (2) in Richtung Nocken (1). Dadurch wird ein Abheben der Rolle (2) vom Nocken (1) verhindert.
