Abstract
Description
mehrere Schritte unterschieden:
- 1. Behandlung mit einem Entwicklungsbad
- 2. Behandlung mit einem Bleichbad
- 3. Wässerung
- 4. Behandlung mit einem Fixierbad
- 5. Wässerung
- 6. Behandlung mit einem Stabilisierbad (bei Filmen)
- 1. Treatment with a developing bath
- 2. Treatment with a bleaching bath
- 3. Watering
- 4. Treatment with a fixer
- 5. Watering
- 6. Treatment with a stabilizing bath (for films)
When processing paper images after the Development bath switched on a stop bath, the stabilizing bath eliminated. The past few years have been combined Bleach-fix baths have been introduced. When processing reversal films comes a first development bath and a reversal bath or one Add intermediate exposure. With the more precise design of the o. g. Steps have established three processes: The one with C-41 designated process for color negative films, the RA-4 process for print materials and the E-6 process for most Reverse (= slide) films (except Kodachrom films).
(s. hierzu E. Mutter: Die Technik
der Negativ- und Positivverfahren, Wien New York 1955;
- 1. Several partial concentrates have to be produced and filled and precisely measured to prepare the working solutions. This is cumbersome, labor-intensive and involves the risk of confusion. In addition, it requires a lot of packaging
- 2. The fundamental problem of the susceptibility to oxidation of the working solutions has not been eliminated. However, this results in unnecessary consumption of chemicals and additional wastewater problems.
- 3. The availability and use of strongly alkaline solutions is unsafe for unskilled auxiliary staff.
Dieses Problem wurde durch zwei Maßnahmen gelöst: From these shortcomings the technical problem arose solve was: It had to be tried, for those Color development required chemicals in one if possible Combine concentrate with alkaline reaction, from which then the working solutions can be prepared by simply diluting them could, without it being in this concentrate to the known Autoxidation is coming. This problem was resolved through two measures solved:
-
berechnet). 1. A highly concentrated preparation was made from all chemicals required for color development, including the alkalis - hereinafter referred to as "monoconcentrate". Our own studies on such a monoconcentrate stored in closed bottles that are only open for measurement have shown that its susceptibility to oxidation is by no means as high as one should assume (see Fig. 1). This is obviously due to the fact that the theoretical redox potential of the color developer substances in the alkaline range is considerably lower than in the acidic range, the difference between the developer and the sulfite / sulfate potential, which is decisive for the protective effect of the sulfite in the alkaline range larger (see Fig. 2), while the dependence of the difference between the developer and the oxygen potential on the pH value is small (see Fig. 3) (The redox potentials were determined according to the well-known NERNSTSCHEICHUNG in the
calculated).
- 1. As a second measure, an antioxidant, preferably phenyl-1-naphthylamine, was added to the monoconcentrates in an amount of 30 ppm (= 0.003%). Antioxidants have long been used to inhibit or prevent autoxidations in many areas, for example to protect ethers by oxidation, to prevent autoxidation in cracked petrol and rubber or in foods. As a rule, phenols, aromatic amines and quinones are used, i.e. substances that are themselves easily oxidizable. Their mode of action is probably photocatalytic because they intervene in chain reactions and are effective even in the smallest amounts. Their successful use in protecting color developer solutions from auto-oxidation has not been known, although they are extremely effective here without affecting the function of the color developer. The investigations by the inventor have shown that both the monoconcentrates and the working solutions of all three color development processes with an addition of the antioxidant (AO) phenyl-α-naphthylamine can be kept for significantly longer than without this addition (see Fig. 3 with 7 ). The monoconcentrate of the C-41 process is reduced by 35% in terms of its reducing power after 10 days of storage in a closed bottle that is only open for measurement (which may take a few hours), but then remains at this level for a long time because there appears to be an equilibrium in the redox system. In the case of concentrate with AO, this breakdown is minimal from the beginning, and then only amounts to a few percent after three months. The results for the monoconcentrates of the other two processes, RA-4 and E-6, are very similar, with the degradation of the concentrate of the E-6 process without AO being almost linear from the start, probably because this concentrate, in addition to the color developer substance still contains a reducing fogging agent. However, the effect of the AO is just as pronounced here as with the other two processes.
The protective effect of the AO is even clearer in the Working solutions that are left open in test tubes : The C-41 working solution without AO already proves this 6 days a drop in the reduction power by 35%, which then reached 50% after one month. The working solution with AO shows a noticeable drop only after 30 days, but this continues in the further Course still significantly below that of the working solution without AO remains. The latter fact in particular is likely to be used of color developer baths in developing machines of special Be meaningful.
Using 20 exposed color negative films, 10 color reversal films and 5 m 2 of printed materials from different manufacturers, the monoconcentrates were checked in comparison with conventional concentrates and the results were assessed visually. In addition, a densitometric evaluation of the respective control strips was carried out. In both cases, no significant differences could be found between the materials that had been developed with the monoconcentrates on the one hand and conventional concentrates on the other.
