Abstract

Description

It is a snail fence with a snail tunnel profile to protect the vegetable beds from snails.

Regardless of whether concrete, plastic or sheet steel is used to make the snail fences, their construction is the same for almost all models: the upper edge of the fence must be designed in such a way that the snails cannot overcome it. The individual components of a snail fence must fit tightly together at the corners and the fence should be inserted at least five centimeters deep into the ground.

According to customer reviews from Germany, snail fences currently offered to garden owners by various manufacturers/sellers are either quite thin and difficult to put into the ground, or are heavy and expensive, or are not able to stop the snails. Some have a short lifespan, so that after one season in the garden they are basically ready for the scrap heap.

From the publication DE 202006012494 U1 A double-walled anti-snail rail is known, which is made of 2 mm thick flexible plastic and is closed from above. The cavity between its walls is 5 mm, so that the anti-snail rail can be attached either to the original anti-snail fence or to a solid-walled panel, the thickness of which is approximately 5 mm.

The disadvantage of such a construction is that the height of the double walls of the anti-snail rail cannot be small, because with a small height of the double walls the anti-snail rail can slip off the snail fence (with a wall thickness of 5 mm), since each of the walls of the double wall is quite thin (2 mm), consists of movable plastic and has no clamping function. Therefore, the front plastic wall of the anti-snail rail has a fairly high height of 120 mm in order to have a stable position of the anti-snail rail on the strong or thick original anti-snail fence or on a similar solid wall panel. The height of the front plastic wall (120 mm) in turn determines a high height of the snail fence (approx. 370 mm), because its lower plastic prongs have to be inserted into the ground approx. 70 mm deep so that the slugs cannot penetrate under the snail fence into a protected area.

The snail fence consists of several rigid strips, particularly made of plastic or similar, which are movably connected and whose individual lengths can be partially supplemented or removed and can be connected in different lengths and numbers according to the shape of the bed.

The butt connection between two strips, which is directed in one direction at a time, is made by the connecting pieces, which are provided with snap bolts and which engage in the snap holes arranged in the strips in a corresponding manner.

The upper edge (nose) of this snail fence and its corner connections make it impossible for the snails to overcome this obstacle. This fence (set of 14 x snail fence parts + 4 x corner connections) is suitable for fencing a rectangular bed with an area of approx. 6 sqm.

The present invention is based on the object of devising a snail fence that is cost-effective, easy to install, highly effective, low-maintenance and weather-resistant.

This problem is solved by the features of claims 1 to 15.

A compact snail fence consists of crossed snail fence strips of equal height, the dimensions of which, including the material thicknesses, are comparable to the dimensions and material thicknesses of a privacy strip that is used when erecting opaque garden fences.

The lower edges of the snail fence strips are dug into the ground.

Special worm gear profiles/worm gear profile clips and corner connections/corner connection clips with comparable cross-sections are attached to the upper edge of the compact ridge fence.

A helical profile is an article pre-formed into a known flanged profile/edge protection profile/sealing profile with flange, its components being made of PVC plastics and/or elastomers with some clamping lips and internal clamping inserts or without both.

The clamping area of the worm gear profile is sufficient to ensure that it remains stable and permanently attached to the upper edge of the snail fence strip.

On the side of the helical profile there is a pointed vane or a double vane with two pointed vanes pointing downwards. The cross section of the vanes shows their straight or a curved shape.

Between the wall of the body of the worm profile and the adjacent vanes as well as inside the double vane there are narrow cavities whose height and clear width are comparable to the height of the worm profile.

The ends of the worm profile either have an angle of 45° or they are rectangular.

The sides of narrow cavities existing between the wall of the body of the worm profile and the adjacent vane or the sides in a cavity of the double vane may be covered/stained with synthetic fibers which give these sides a rough/spiny surface, thereby making it difficult for worms to crawl under the worm profile or for worms to subsequently crawl under and along the worm profile.

Each end of each bearing strip rests on a single support, with a non-free end of the pressure strip resting on one end of the bearing strip, but the free/non-crossing end of each pressure strip, which is overlapping the free end of the other pressure strip in a recess of the support, rests freely on a single support located in the middle of the long side of the compact snail fence, which allows the length of the compact snail fence to be regulated.

Any recess of the support serves to rotate the support around the vertical axis by means of a flat object inserted into the recess, so that for a snail fence strip a deep recess is selected by means of which the end of the snail fence strip is brought to a desired height.

A kit for erecting compact snail fences contains a certain number of snail fence strips/snail profiles/snail profile clips/corner joints/corner joint clips/supports, the properties of which are comparable to the features of the corresponding objects as defined by the claims filed.
