Abstract

The present invention relates, on the one hand, to a cosmetic composition based on various plant substances which can be used in particular for cosmetic application such as moisturizing, protecting, repairing, rejuvenating and beautifying the skin. However, due to its special properties, the composition can also be used advantageously in therapeutic areas of application.

There is a continuing need for improved cosmetic face creams adapted to the treatment of aging skin conditions in which the skin of the face undergoes an aging process and is prone to the formation of lines, wrinkles, dry skin, dark circles, puffiness and accompanying inflammation of the skin. The pharmaceutical and cosmetic industry has long been developing, in line with consumer demand, cosmetic compositions using herbal ingredients, natural oils and without artificial ingredients.

For example revealed U.S. Pat. No. 4,936,986 a moisturizing lotion based on a pea mixture, nut oil, rose water, olive oil, anhydrous lanolin and natural lemon oil, specifically avoiding artificial ingredients, preservatives, emulsifiers or alcohol. The lotion is intended to provide moisture and restore the natural proportion of lipophilic components in the treated areas of the skin.

Revealed in a similar manner U.S. Pat. No. 5,002,974 a moisturizing composition for the treatment of dry skin based on an oil phase in an aqueous phase, wherein surface-active agents contribute to the formation of a stable oil-in-water emulsion. Useful oils that are recommended include animal oils, fish oils, vegetable oils, mineral oils, and synthetic oils.

U.S. Pat. No. 4,569,839 discloses hair and skin cosmetics using powder obtained from natural plants such as trees and shrubs or from roots, stems, leaves, flowers, fruits or seeds. The natural plant powder is dispersed in a liquid cohesive agent that contains an organic oil. Useful fatty oils include mineral oils, animal oils, vegetable oils, synthetic oils, triglycerides from synthetic fatty acids, fatty alcohols, and esters of fatty acids.

Early patents like U.S. Pat. 144,405 and 122,621 recommend the use of lard in the manufacture of ointments for the treatment of cuts, burns and chemical burns, as well as scratches.

In particular, vegetable oils and natural phytonutrients are highly sensitive to natural environmental influences such as heat or the influence of oxygen and can quickly lose their quality if, for example, they are subjected to undesired oxidation processes. This leads to a loss of quality and premature spoilage of compositions that are based exclusively on herbal ingredients. Vegetable oils in particular can quickly oxidize and become rancid and are then no longer acceptable in a cosmetic formulation. Therefore, preparations with high proportions of active plant substances and plant oils usually have to be protected from decomposition and spoilage, which is usually done by adding preservatives. However, effective preservatives are usually not of natural origin and are not desirable in a purely herbal formulation.

One object of the present invention was therefore to meet the increasing need for an active ingredient composition based purely on plants, with which particularly advantageous cosmetic and beneficial effects can be achieved. In a further aspect, the problem to be solved was to provide such purely herbal active ingredient compositions with sufficient shelf life and high quality.

Detailed description of the present invention

The above-mentioned object was surprisingly achieved by providing a new composition which comprises a specially selected combination of natural ingredients.

According to the invention, the term “alcohols” denotes organic chemical compounds which have one or more hydroxyl groups (-OH) bonded to aliphatic carbon atoms, the respective carbon atoms with the hydroxyl group only being allowed to be bonded with carbon or hydrogen atoms. The term according to the invention thus includes both short-chain monoalcohols such as methanol, ethanol and propanol and longer-chain fatty alcohols or di- and polyols such as glycerol, mannitol and sorbitol.

According to a further embodiment of the invention, the compositions according to the invention preferably comprise extracts each from aloe vera, mint, chamomile, mustard seed and thyme and mixtures thereof.

The plant ingredients according to the invention can be selected and combined with one another in such a way that specific desired effects are achieved or enhanced.

The most important vegetable oils contain almost exclusively straight-chain, unbranched fatty acids. Furthermore, the double bonds of the unsaturated fatty acids in most vegetable oils are in the cis configuration. The seed oils of some plants also contain unusual fatty acids, e.g. ricinoleic acid in Ricinus communis, vernolic acid in Vernonia sp., Calendulic acid in Calendula ofiicinalis, petroselinic acid in Petroselinum hortense. The vegetable oils are formed and deposited in the tissues of the seeds (e.g. rapeseed, sunflower, soy) of the fruits (e.g. olives, oil palm fruits) of plants in the form of tiny oil droplets. The oil droplets arise in the cytoplasm; they are surrounded by a unilamellar membrane made of phospholipids and proteins, so-called oleosins.

The cosmetic vegetable oils and fats according to the invention can be obtained from suitable plants or the respective oil- or fat-rich parts of the plants, such as from seeds, flowers, stems, leaves, roots, etc., by known processes.

The cosmetic vegetable oils and fats according to the invention are thus those which are obtained directly from the plant or from the suitable parts of the plant, e.g. by extraction, grinding or pressing.

In contrast to this, the plant constituents isolated from the plants defined herein, which are bound in oils or fats during or after their isolation, belong to the group of plant constituents according to the invention.

In principle, vegetable oils and fats can also be understood as "plant ingredients" or included in this designation. In particular, cosmetic vegetable oils and fats can also develop advantageous cosmetic effects. According to the invention, the term “plant constituents” is primarily to be understood as meaning components of the plants specifically defined herein, in particular active ingredients from these specifically defined plants are meant.
