Abstract
The production of new types of salt mortars and concrete on the basis of one-component alkali-activated binders (geopolymers) made from (silica) SiO2-rich starting materials and alkaline aluminates, especially sodium aluminate, for the production of almost non-shrinkage and therefore crack-free components of large volumes / mass Use of a salt rock grain proposed. Due to their low permeability and good mechanical properties, the salt mortar and salt concrete are suitable as building materials for sealing structures of repositories in salt rock. The processing can be done using conventional technology, which is why there are no additional adjustment costs.
Description
Technisches GebietTechnical area
The invention is in the field of locking and supporting structures and relates to the securing of final or intermediate storage for residual materials.
For several decades, sealing and retaining structures with cement-bound binders (Portland cement, Ho or magnesium chloride cement) using salt (e.g. rock salt as aggregate) and sand have been investigated.
Nachteile des Standes der TechnikDisadvantages of the prior art
Due to their bulk and the use of chloride-containing salts as aggregates and the partial solution of chlorides, there is usually a very high level of heat development during the hardening of these building materials. The thermal expansion and the mostly existing chemical or drying shrinkage lead to undesired cracking in such components. For the function of a sealing structure in a repository or interim storage facility, the greatest possible freedom from cracks and the tightness of the building material are fundamental properties. In addition, conventional methods of producing geopolymers require the use of highly alkaline solutions, such as water glass. The handling of such highly alkaline solutions (solutions of the salts of a strong base and a weak acid are highly alkaline) is associated with corresponding risks to the health of the user and requires appropriate protective measures.
ProblemstellungProblem
It is therefore the object of the present invention to provide a building material and a method for its use which is suitable for providing a closure structure in a repository or interim storage facility. The properties of the building material should in particular ensure freedom from cracks and impermeability while at the same time providing sufficient mechanical strength and durability. In addition, occupational safety should be made easier when handling the necessary components.
Erfindungsgemäße LösungSolution according to the invention
According to the invention, the production of geopolymers from SiO 2 -rich starting materials and alkaline aluminates, in particular sodium aluminate, is proposed for the production of virtually non-shrinkage and therefore crack-free closure components of large volume / mass using aggregates comprising NaCl according to a method according to
According to one embodiment, a dry mix for obtaining a geopolymer salt concrete and / or a geopolymer salt mortar is proposed. The dry mix comprises a binder and a granular salt rock. The binder has two components: SiO 2 -rich material and alkaline aluminate. The salt rock grains typically comprise a saline, ie a rock with a high proportion of halide minerals (saline rock). The binder has a molar ratio of SiO 2 to Al 2 O 3 , expressed in mol / mol, of 2.0 to 10.0, preferably 3.5 to 6.0. In relation to the mass of the silica-containing material (SiO 2 -rich material) and the mass of the alkaline aluminate (alumina raw materials), this corresponds to a mass ratio of 0.75 to 3.00 in the dry binder. In this context, an SiO 2 -rich material is understood to mean a material which comprises at least 80% by mass of SiO 2 .
Virtually no aggregate made from naturally occurring salt is a pure-phase mineral. A salt mineral is understood to mean a mineral that is selected from the list consisting of halite, sylvite, bishopite, anhydrite, thenardite, epsomite, syngenite and carnallite. The proposed dry mix is suitable for the formation of building materials on the basis of traditionally alkali-activated binders (e.g. known geopolymers), in particular for the production of tight and permanent closure or support structures for final and intermediate storage in salt deposits. Advantageously, experimental results of the use of the specified dry mixture show that sodium chloride arising during the formation of the geopolymers and also contained in the aggregate or as aggregate does not have a detectable effect on the polymerization reaction for the formation of geopolymers. The salt rock grain contained in the proposed dry mix, depending on the grain size distribution for salt concrete (salt rock grain size> 4 mm) and salt mortar (salt rock grain size <4 mm), is therefore inert to the binding agent. Contrary to previously known methods (recipes) for the production of geopolymers, it does not require water glass to activate it, only water.
According to one embodiment, microsilica, industrial filter residues (e.g. from chlorosilane production), biogenic silica (e.g. rice husk ash) and geothermal silica are particularly suitable as SiO 2 -rich material.
In this way, residues from large-scale industrial processes that are available inexpensively or even at negative costs can advantageously be put to useful use.
According to one embodiment, the alkaline aluminate is selected from: a sodium aluminate (NaAlO 2 ); a lithium aluminate (LiAlO 2 ) and a potassium aluminate (KAlO 2 ).
The aluminates mentioned are advantageously available on an industrial scale and arise as by-products, for example in the Bayer process for aluminum production and in aluminum anodizing, so that their recycling is often possible at low cost.
According to one embodiment, a proportion of the aggregate in the dry mixture is 1.0-90.0% by mass, in particular 30.0-70.0% by mass.
Die zu erwartenden Druckfestigkeiten liegen dabei nach 91 Tagen bei ≥ 20 MPa, betragen beispielsweise ≥ 22 MPa.Advantageously, a strength and deformation behavior similar to that of the surrounding bedrock can be achieved via the specified proportion of salt rock grain. Thus, negative interactions between the sealing structure and the surrounding rock can be minimized. The compressive strengths to be expected after 91 days are 20 MPa, for example 22 MPa.
According to one embodiment, the use of the dry mix described is proposed for producing a sealing structure or a supporting structure, the sealing structure and the supporting structure being in direct contact with a salt dome, a saline rock or a mine building of a salt deposit.
Advantageously, in addition to the strength and deformation behavior detailed in paragraph [0013], the available closure and support structures have, above all, a high level of impermeability (air permeability in the dry state <1 × 10 -10 m 2 ) and, associated therewith, a high degree of shielding for stored materials. The slowly released heat of reaction favors the formation of a dense and crack-free structure, since cracking due to thermal expansion during hardening and subsequent shrinkage due to the setting reaction or cooling is not to be expected. The use of sodium with the correspondingly high pH values of the pore solution after the addition of water stabilizes NaCl (rock salt) or KCl, which is why it is not absolutely necessary to work with a saturated salt solution instead of water, as with other materials.
- - Bereitstellen einer Trockenmischung wie vorstehend beschrieben;
- - providing a dry mix as described above;
- Mixing the dry mixture with water or an aqueous solution, setting a water / binder value based on mass of 0.3 to 0.6, which corresponds to water / solids values of 0.12 to 0.24; and
- - Sealing the opening with the dry mixture mixed with water or the aqueous solution.
Advantages of the method arise from the reliable closure of the designated cavities (former salt mines) for the closure and sealing of repositories from the environment, due to the properties of the material mentioned in paragraphs [0013] and [0015].
According to one embodiment, it is proposed to use the method described above for securing a final or interim storage of a (possibly radioactive) residue in a cavity of a salt deposit.
Bekanntermaßen kommen Salzlagerstätten zur Deponierung bestimmter (u. U. radioaktiver) Reststoffe möglicherweise in Betracht. It is known that salt deposits may be considered for landfilling certain (possibly radioactive) residues. Against this background, the proposed use of dry mixes enables the erection of support and sealing structures in / on final and interim storage of hazardous substances in salt deposits.
The embodiments described above can be combined with one another as desired. However, the invention is not limited to the specifically described embodiments, but can be modified and modified in a suitable manner. It is within the scope of the invention to suitably combine individual features and feature combinations of one embodiment with features and feature combinations of another embodiment in order to arrive at further embodiments according to the invention.
In addition to anhydrous sodium aluminate (NaAlO 2 ), hydroxide (NaAl (OH) 4 ) in aqueous solution is also of great technical relevance.
Geopolymers are characterized by a significantly slower release of the heat of reaction than conventional cements during hardening. The actual hardening process (condensation reaction) takes place almost without the binding of chemically bound water and drying shrinkage can be minimized or avoided via the recipe parameters (salt to binder and water to binder or water to solid ratio). Basically, the highest possible salt and the lowest possible water content promote the low shrinkage behavior.
In principle, the processing technology is the same as for normal concrete, so it can be technically implemented without high additional investments.

Investigations into further technical applications (e.g. with regard to the use as acid-resistant repair mortar or as refractory materials) of the alkali-activated binders described here have shown that in the described highly alkaline environment, which is present after the addition of water to aluminates, and use of halite as aggregate with a high sodium content of the aluminates Chlorides of the SiO 2 -rich starting materials are precipitated as NaCl.
This fact explains the observed stability of the mineral salt (halite) used as aggregate, even without the use of saturated NaCl solutions instead of water.

According to the invention, a geopolymer binder matrix in connection with salt rock serves as sand or aggregate as a basis for massive structures that harden without cracks.
An initial heat treatment is advantageous for accelerated hardening. Slow hardening at lower temperatures (e.g. 23 ° C.) can have further advantages depending on the desired properties, in particular being free of any macroscopic cracks. Mortars with a SiO 2 / Al 2 O 3 ratio = 6 mol / mol in the binder, a salt / binder ratio of 2 g / g and a water / binder value (w / b) of 0.5 g / g achieve a cube compressive strength of approx. 10 MPa at 28 days of age. The strength is then more than doubled up to an age of 91 days and reaches values of up to 22 MPa (determination of the cube compressive strength according to DIN EN 12390-3: 2001). At the same time, the slowly hardened samples are characterized by a high degree of tightness. Samples dried in the desiccator (stored over dried silica gel at 23 ° C.) have a permeability coefficient of 1.10 × 10 -17 m 2 without further optimization. A slow reaction also leads to the heat of reaction being released only slowly and advantageously prevents undesired thermal deformations, so that the formation of macroscopic cracks or an increase in crack width can be reliably excluded.
The described synthesis route of the one-component alkali-activated binders (geopolymers), i.e. the synthesis from the solid starting materials silica and alumina as well as water generates a higher social and economic acceptance than for the classic two-component alkali-activated binders. Here, aluminosilicate raw materials (e.g. metakaolin, fly ash) are activated with highly alkaline solutions (e.g. sodium hydroxide or sodium silicate solutions).
In summary, the production of new salt mortars and concretes on the basis of one-component alkali-activated binders (geopolymers) made from (silica) SiO 2 -rich starting materials and alkaline aluminates, especially sodium aluminate, for the production of almost shrinkage-free and therefore crack-free components of large volume / mass proposed using salt rock grain. The resulting salt mortar or salt concrete, due to its low permeability and good mechanical parameters, is potentially suitable as a building material for sealing structures of repositories in salt rock. The processing can be done using conventional technology, which is why there are no additional adjustment costs.
