Abstract
The present invention relates to a method and a device for producing a product gas containing carbon monoxide, in which a vacuum pressure swing adsorption is used to separate raw gas components, the system parts of the vacuum pressure swing adsorption, which are subjected to subatmospheric pressure during the desorption, from a shielding gas flowed around or surrounded, which prevents impurities from possibly existing or occurring leaks from being smuggled into the method or the device.
Description
The invention relates to a method for producing a product gas stream which contains at least carbon monoxide, and a corresponding plant according to the preambles of the independent claims.
Stand der TechnikState of the art
In principle, it is known that separation processes can be used to separate different components of a gas mixture which make use of differences in the physical properties of the components to be separated. Examples are membrane processes, adsorption processes, absorption processes, distillation processes and the like. Adsorption processes are known, for example, in the form of temperature and pressure swing adsorption processes in which at least two adsorber systems are usually used in parallel alternately, i.e. one adsorber system is operated in an adsorption mode, while a second adsorber system is operated in parallel in a regeneration phase in a desorption mode. This enables an essentially continuous separation process, since the gas mixture to be separated can always be applied to an adsorber system.
It is known that vacuum pressure swing adsorption is particularly advantageous in processes in which a gas mixture to be processed occurs at a relatively low pressure level and in which the gas mixture contains large amounts of gases adsorbing in pressure swing adsorption. Such processes can include, for example, low-pressure carbon dioxide electrolysis, low-pressure co-electrolysis or various reforming processes for the production of synthesis gas from natural gas, crude oil, biogas, biomass, or other hydrocarbon-containing feedstocks as a conversion.
A vacuum pressure swing adsorption is characterized in that a desorption pressure level is below a pressure level of the surrounding medium, in particular below a natural atmospheric pressure. In vacuum pressure swing adsorption, however, a lower adsorption pressure level than in conventional pressure swing adsorption can also be used, so that this is the same as or lower than the pressure level at which the gas mixture to be processed occurs, for example a conversion pressure level at which the conversion is carried out . This is because the adsorbent is very effectively regenerated by the lower desorption pressure level, which means that more active surface is available for adsorption than would be the case with other conventional types of regeneration. This increases the driving force for adsorption, so that a lower adsorption pressure is sufficient for the same adsorbent load. Therefore, in this case, energy-intensive compression of the entire gas mixture can be dispensed with, and only the non-adsorbed gas is optionally compressed to a desired target pressure level. Since the non-adsorbed gas has a considerably smaller volume than the gas mixture to be processed, a considerable reduction in the required compression energy can be achieved in this way.
In the case of vacuum pressure swing adsorption, the problem can arise that parts of the surrounding medium, in particular air from the natural atmosphere, can be sucked into the vacuum pressure swing adsorption system through leaks during the desorption step. As a result, components of the surrounding medium can be introduced into the process as impurities that cannot be removed from the gas mixture or can only be removed with great effort. For some applications, contaminants in the ppm range can have a considerable harmful effect. There are therefore very high demands on the purity of the process gases, the fulfillment of which cannot always be ensured with the technologies available on the market. A completely gas-tight vacuum pressure swing adsorption system requires a great deal of construction effort.
Against this background, the object of the present invention is to provide a method in which the high purity requirements can be met safely and without excessive additional structural effort even when using vacuum pressure swing adsorption.
Offenbarung der ErfindungDisclosure of the invention
The present invention addresses this problem in that the system parts, which are operated at times below atmospheric pressure level and which are used in vacuum pressure swing adsorption, such as adsorber containers or associated lines and pumps, are surrounded with a shielding gas so that the surrounding medium, in particular Air, is not in direct contact with the sensitive, possibly leaky connection points. Such a method and a corresponding system are the subject of the independent claims, which define the scope of the present invention. Advantageous configurations emerge from the respective dependent claims and the following description as well as the attached figures.
DefinitionenDefinitions
A product gas stream containing carbon monoxide is to be understood as meaning both carbon monoxide in different purities and synthesis gas mixtures which, in addition to carbon monoxide, can also contain other components such as hydrogen, carbon dioxide and / or water.

However, many of the gas streams are typically saturated or containing water vapor. The anhydrous portion of the gas mixture is therefore usually considered.
Merkmale und Vorteile der ErfindungFeatures and advantages of the invention
According to the present invention, the shielding gas advantageously does not contain any components which cannot be separated from the gas components used and / or formed in the process, or which can only be separated with great effort. In particular, the shielding gas is free from molecular oxygen, nitrogen, argon and hydrocarbons. The shielding gas is particularly advantageously formed from gas flows that are already used in the process, so that in the event of a leak no additional gas components are introduced into the process.
According to a first aspect of the invention, a method is provided in which the system parts of the adsorption system operated below the atmospheric pressure level are surrounded by the shielding gas in the manner described. In particular, the system parts are flowed around by the shielding gas or are accommodated in an at least partially statically charged container with the shielding gas. A second aspect of the present invention provides a corresponding device.
The shielding gas is preferably routed in such a way that it is in contact with an outer shell of the system parts described above and displaces all other gases from the entire outer shell of these system parts, or at least the outer shell of all parts with an increased risk of leakage such as flanges or valves. For this purpose, the shielding gas is kept in particular at a shielding gas pressure level that is above natural atmospheric pressure, but at least above the desorption pressure level, and can advantageously correspond to the adsorption pressure level or the conversion pressure level.
Advantageously, only as much shielding gas is provided in each case as escapes into the system via leaks. The shielding gas pressure level can be kept constant by means of a pressure control, whereby, for example, a valve only opens when the shielding gas pressure level drops due to leaks.
According to the present invention, the raw gas stream, which is obtained at the conversion pressure level from a use using the conversion, is advantageously subjected to vacuum pressure swing adsorption, which includes the steps of adsorption at the adsorption pressure level and desorption at the desorption pressure level, while obtaining an adsorbate stream and a precursor stream includes. The adsorbate stream is depleted of carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide in relation to the raw gas stream enriched, while the preliminary product stream is enriched in carbon monoxide and depleted in carbon dioxide based on the raw gas stream.
The adsorbate stream is advantageously returned to the conversion as a recycling stream together with a fresh feed to increase the carbon dioxide conversion with compression to the conversion pressure level.
In one embodiment of the invention, the preliminary product stream is compressed in a product compression to a desired or predetermined product pressure level if this is above the adsorption pressure level.
Condensers, water separators and heat exchangers can be provided at certain points in the system in order to set the process conditions, for example for vacuum pressure swing adsorption. These additional system parts or process steps are not explicitly described in each case, but are advantageous for economical operation of the method.
According to an advantageous embodiment of the invention, the shielding gas is at least partially used as a fresh feed for the conversion or the fresh feed is first used as the shielding gas. This has the particular advantage that no additional gas has to be provided as a shielding gas and is therefore particularly economical.
According to a further advantageous embodiment of the invention, part of the product gas flow is used as the shielding gas and then transferred into the product gas flow together with the preliminary product flow, if necessary via a possibly existing product compression.
In order to ensure that no foreign components, such as lubricants or abrasion from mechanical system parts, are introduced into the process, it can be advantageous to use a gas flow as the shielding gas, which is discharged from the process after being used as the shielding gas. For example, part of the fresh carbon dioxide or a by-product separated from the preliminary product stream can be provided as constituents of the shielding gas for this purpose. Depending on which gas flow is used as the shielding gas, however, this can lead to a reduction in the overall efficiency, which is why the return of the shielding gas to the process can also be advantageous.
When selecting a particularly advantageous embodiment of the method, various influencing parameters should therefore be taken into account, such as energy efficiency, atomic efficiency, possible reactions between components of the shielding gas and system parts around which it flows, or the required product purity.
If a membrane separation process is used in the purification of the preliminary product stream, as is the case in one embodiment of the invention, it can be particularly advantageous to use a permeate from one or more membrane separation steps to provide the shielding gas. In particular, a separation step of the membrane separation process, for example by selecting a suitable membrane, can be designed in such a way that the permeate used for the shielding gas is particularly heavily depleted in one or more components. In particular, depending on the materials from which the system parts around which the shielding gas flows are made, it can be particularly advantageous if the shielding gas contains as little carbon monoxide as possible. In this way, a carbonyl formation, which is to be feared in certain cases, can be prevented, thereby preventing possible damage to the system and contamination of the product gas flow. Generally speaking, a gas or gas mixture depleted in carbon monoxide can thus be provided using the precursor stream and used as the shielding gas.
For example, a separation step of the membrane separation can be designed in such a way that the permeate is essentially composed of hydrogen, which if necessary should be removed from the product gas stream in any case. In order to prevent the hydrogen from accumulating in the recycling cycle, the permeate can then be discharged from the process after being used as the shielding gas and thus discarded.
To increase the yield of the membrane separation, however, it can also be advantageous to recycle all or part of the shielding gas to the membrane separation.
In principle, the method according to the invention can be used for the aftertreatment of various gas products from very different conversion processes. In particular, it can be used advantageously if the conversion comprises a low-pressure electrolysis or a low-pressure co-electrolysis of carbon dioxide to carbon monoxide or a reforming of methane and carbon dioxide to a synthesis gas which essentially consists of hydrogen and carbon monoxide.
Particularly advantageous configurations and further aspects of the invention are described below explained in more detail with reference to the accompanying figures.
