Beschreibung der verwandten TechnikenDescription of the related techniques
The use of wireless communication systems is increasing rapidly. In addition, there are many different wireless communication technologies and standards. Some examples of wireless communication standards include GSM, UMTS (in conjunction with, for example, WCDMA or TD-SCDMA air interfaces), LTE, LTE-Advanced (LTE-A), HSPA, 3GPP2 CDMA2000 (eg, ixRTT, ixEV-DO, HRPD, eHRPD). , IEEE 802.11 (Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi), IEEE 802.16 (WiMax), Bluetooth and others.
Many devices that implement such wireless communication systems are essentially mobile devices that rely heavily on wireless power (e.g., batteries). For such devices, as well as for other devices in general, the considerations of energy consumption for implementing the wireless technologies may be significant. For example, battery life may affect consumer preference for possible wireless devices.
ZusammenfassungSummary
This document describes, inter alia, low power IEEE 802.11 (Wi-Fi) wireless communication methods and describes wireless devices configured to implement the described methods.
Wi-Fi transmissions can generally be constructed as having different physical layer (PHY) preamble fields, followed by PHY data that includes encapsulated header information for higher layer and / or payload data.
Wi-Fi can use Carrier Sensing as a multiple access technology. In this case, a Wi-Fi device may at least temporarily monitor (scan) the Wi-Fi wireless media for transmissions by other Wi-Fi devices to determine whether the medium is busy or free (eg, if it is buffered uplink). Has data and wants to use the medium for uplink transmission) and / or to determine if any transmissions are intended for the device.
It may be desirable for the device to spend more time monitoring the media than necessary to determine that the transmission is not intended for the device and to determine the anticipated length of the transmission to save power. After this determination has been made, the device may assume a low energy state (sleep) for the remainder of the transmission.
According to the techniques described herein, it may be possible to provide destination and length information early in the PHY preamble portion of a Wi-Fi transmission that reduces the amount of time it takes to determine the scheduled duration of the transmission and therefore increase the time duration. in which the device remains in the low-energy state, possibly reducing the power consumption of the device.
It may be possible to include the destination and length information for Wi-Fi transmission before or as part of a portion of the PHY preamble that is set up for channel estimation.
For example, a low energy signal field (LE-SIG) may precede the Legacy Long Training (L-LTF) field (currently used for channel estimation is used) and may include the destination and length information for the Wi-Fi transmission in which it is included. Such a field may be differently coded, if desired, because without the channel estimation, it may be difficult or impossible to use coherent coding (at least in some cases).
As another example, the destination and length information may be included for Wi-Fi transmission in the L-LTF field. In this case, it may be possible to obtain the backward compatibility, for example, by adding the BPSK signaling or the 90 degree rotated BPSK signaling over the two L-LTF training sequences in such a way that when merged, the additional Destination and length information is canceled and the channel estimation training sequence is recovered, but when subtracted from each other, the channel estimation training sequence is canceled and the additional destination and length information can be recovered.
Further, if desired, the L-LTF may generally be used to provide early signaling of control information by adding the information to the LTF training sequence, as in the manner described above. For example, the additional information may be formatted as an L-LTF control field, which may be defined as included subfields for any of various types of control information, such as one or all of packet destinations, MIMO indications (eg, how many RF chains). , Multi-user (MU) MIMO Vs. Single user (SU) MIMO hint, coding hint (eg BCC or LDPC), bandwidth hint (

Begriffeterms
Nintendo DS™, PlayStation Portable™, Gameboy Advance™, iPhone™), Laptops, tragbare Vorrichtungen (z.B. smart watch, smart glasses), PDAs, tragbare Internetvorrichtungen, Musik-Player, Datenspeichervorrichtungen und andere Handheld-Vorrichtungen etc.
- Storage Medium - Any of various types of non-volatile computer-accessible storage devices or storage devices. The term ("storage medium") is intended to mean an installation medium, such as a CD-ROM, floppy disk, or tape device; a computer system memory or random access memory such as DRAM, DDR RAM, SRAM, EDO RAM, Rambus RAM, etc .; a non-volatile storage medium such as a flash, magnetic media, eg a hard disk, or an optical storage; Include registers or other similar types of memory elements, etc. The storage medium may include other types of non-volatile storage media as well as other combinations thereof. In addition, the storage medium may be arranged in a first computer system in which the programs are executed, or may be arranged in a second different computer system connecting the first computer system via a network, such as the Internet. In the latter case, the second computer system may provide program instructions to the first computer for execution. The term "storage medium" may include two or more storage media located at different locations, eg, in different computer systems connected via a network. The storage medium may store program instructions (eg, executed as computer programs) that may be executed by one or more processors.
- Carrier medium - a storage medium as described above, as well as a physical transmission medium such as a bus, network and / or other physical transmission medium may transmit signals such as electrical, electromagnetic or digital signals.
- Programmable Hardware Element - includes various hardware devices having programmable functional blocks connected via a programmable link. Examples include Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs), Programmable Logic Devices (PLDs), FPOAs (Field Programmable Object Arrays), and Complex PLDs (CPLDs). The programmable function blocks can range from fine granular (combinational logic or look-up tables) to coarse granular (arithmetic logic units or processor cores). A programmable hardware element may also be referred to as "reconfigurable logic".
- Computer system - any of various types of computing or processing systems, including a personal computer system (PC), a mainframe computer system, a workstation, a network application, an Internet application, a personal digital assistant (PDA), a personal communications device , a smartphone, a television system, grid computing system or other devices or combinations of devices. In general, the term "computer system" can be broadly defined to include any device (or combination of devices) having at least one processor executing instructions from a storage medium.
- Station (STA) - any of various types of computer system devices that are mobile or portable and that perform wireless communications. Examples of STAs include mobile phones, smart phones (eg, iPhone ™, Android ™ based phones), portable gaming devices (eg, Nintendo DS ™, PlayStation Portable ™, Gameboy Advance ™, iPhone ™), laptops, portable devices (eg, smart watch, smart glasses In general, the term "UE" or "UE device" may be broadly defined to mean any electronic, computer, and / or telecommunications device (or a combination of devices) that is easy to carry by a user and suitable for wireless communication.
- Base Station or Access Point (AP) - The term "base station" has the full scope of its original meaning, and includes at least one wireless communication station installed at a fixed location and used to form part of a wireless communication system or a radio system.
- Processing Element - refers to different elements or combinations of elements. The processing elements include, for example, circuits such as application specific integrated circuits ASIC, parts or circuits of individual processor cores, complete processor cores, programmable hardware devices such as a field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) and / or larger parts of systems containing multiple processors.
- Automatic - refers to an action or process that is performed by a computer system (eg, software run by a computer system) or device (eg, circuit, programmable hardware elements, ASICs, etc.), without user input indicating the action or specify or perform the operation directly. Therefore, the term "automatic" is opposed to a procedure manually performed by or set by a user when the user provides the inputs to perform the operation directly. An automatic method may be initiated by inputs provided by the user, but the subsequent actions that are performed "automatically" are not determined by the user, eg, are not performed "manually" when the user sets each action, to perform this. For example, a user manually fills out the form when a user fills in an electronic form by selecting each field and providing inputs that specify information (eg, by entering information, selecting check boxes, radio buttons, etc.), even if that Computer system must update the form in response to the user actions. The form may be automatically populated by the computer system when the computer system (eg, software executing the computer system) parses the fields of the form and fills in the form without any user input specifying the responses for the fields. As indicated above, the user may interrupt the automatic completion of the form, but is not involved in the current form fill-in (eg, the user does not manually provide answers for the fields, but rather automatically completes them). The present description provides various examples of operations that are performed automatically in response to actions that the user has taken.
- PHY rate or PHY data rate - A rate at which devices communicate with each other or over a medium. Many wireless communication technologies (including IEEE 802.11) may provide for the use of different combinations of a modulation type, a coding rate, a number of spatial streams, channel widths, and / or physical layer properties. Each combination can lead to (and in some cases named as) a "PHY rate". The combination of physical layer properties resulting in a given PHY rate may also be referred to as a "modulation and coding scheme", "MCS" or "MCS index". "Lower" or "more robust" PHY rates / MCS indices may provide more efficiency to receivers to successfully receive information communicated under less than ideal medium properties as "higher" or "less robust" PHY rates ( eg using a low density modulation scheme and / or with a larger amount of error correction coding information), often at the expense of potential throughput. On the contrary, higher and lower PHY rates can provide a more efficient use of the medium and provide higher throughput than lower PHY rates (eg, by using a high density modulation scheme and / or with a low proportion of error correction coding information). but may be more difficult to receive less-than-ideal media properties.
- IEEE 802.11 - refers to a technology based on the IEEE 802.11 wireless standard, such as 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g, 802.11n, 802.11-2012, 802.11ac, and / or other IEEE 802.11 standards. IEEE 802.11 technology can also be referred to as "Wi-Fi" or "Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN)" technology.

The PHY preamble and signaling information may support carrier sensing and physical layer reception and decoding of the first wireless transmission of devices capable of receiving the first wireless transmission and may be part of one of several desired ones Features include.
The L-LTF can also be used for channel estimation purposes. For example, the L-LTF may include a known training sequence that may be modulated using Binary Phase Shift Keying (BPSK). Too too To include the destination and length information as a portion of the L-LTF field, additional BPSK modulation to the training sequence may be performed. The added BPSK modulation may include performing BPSK modulation on the BPSK training sequence to provide the additional information, or adding the 90 degree rotated BPSK signaling to the BPSK training sequence, among possible options.

In Wi-Fi communication systems, significant energy savings are achieved by allowing Wi-Fi devices (e.g., STAs) to sleep as much as possible. For example, a potential power save (PS) mode may include waking up an STA at predetermined intervals (e.g., Delivery Traffic Indication Message (DTIM) intervals) to 'listen in' to transmissions from the access point. If traffic is cached to the AP for the STA, the STA may remain awake until the AP has sent all of the cached data to the STA; otherwise, the STA may sleep until the next specified interval and can check the cached traffic again.
However, depending on the load on the cell, the STA may be forced to wait for a greater or lesser amount of time before the AP transmits its data (eg due to Carrier Sense Multiple Access / Collision Avoidance (CSMA / CA) nature) Protocol and time-sharing of the medium). In the meantime, the STA can (at least a portion of) listen to every transmission on the medium as it can not know when its packet will arrive.

At least in some cases it may be possible to add the information to the L-LTF without turning off the backward compatibility. In other words, if configured for backward compatibility, legacy devices (eg, unable to obtain the control information from the L-LTF) may still be able to use the L-LTF field for channel estimation and time synchronization perform.
In particular, the original L-LTF field includes a known sequence of + 1s and -1s over 52 tones, which are repeated over two OFDM symbols. The inner 48 tones can be used for channel estimation, e.g. to decode the L-SIG and subsequent fields. If encoded at 1/2 rate, 24 bits of information may be available; if encoded at 3/4 rate, 36 bits of information may be available; if coded differently, 47 bits of information may be available. The repeated known sequence can generate two correlation cosets that can be used to time synchronize the OFDM symbol recognition. The two OFDM symbols of the LTF can be summed up before the channel estimation is performed, resulting, for example, in a gain of a 3dB reduction in noise.

The LE-SIG may be set up to use or not to use the encoding as desired and to be repeated a number of times as desired (e.g., for time diversity, noise reduction, etc.). For example, the modulated symbols may be repeated four times without coding over an 8μs interval, or may be repeated twice with r = ½ over an 8μs interval. Further, the LE-SIG field may be transmitted to one of various possible PHY data rates, as desired. For example, a 6Mbps data rate may be used for an OFDM symbol duration (4μs), or a 3Mbps data rate may be used for two OFDM symbol durations (8μs).
As shown, the receiver may include a "Radio Frequency" (RF) circuit that can receive signals from an antenna and transmit (eg, filter, amplify, and / or otherwise modify) signals to an analog-to-digital converter converter (A / D), which in turn can convert the analog signals into digital signals and provide them to a digital front-end circuit. Based on the L-STF field of an incoming signal, the receiver may be able to perform Carrier Sensing (CRS) to detect incoming packets and may also set up automatic gain control (AGC) and frequency offset Estimation and correction for each detected incoming packet (eg, based on a control signal from the carrier sampling block that may be provided based on incoming packet detection).
After the Fast Fourier Transformation (FFT) placement and FFT (which can use the FFT input and FFT output buffers), the incoming signals may be sent to a channel estimation block, a demapper block or an LE-SIG symbol. Combiner block can be spread, eg depending on which section of a transmission arrives at a certain time. As shown, incoming signals may also be provided to a data path control block, which may analyze the signals to determine which data path is to be activated. For example, a data path controller may be capable of determining whether the second field of an incoming packet is an LE-SIG or an L-LTF field; and enable the data path for the LE-SIG symbol combiner and differential demapper or the channel estimation block.
Therefore, if the second field is an LE-SIG field, the signals of the LE-SIG field may be provided to the LE-SIG symbol combiner (eg, as they may be repeated to obtain the noise reduction benefits) and thus to the differential demapper. Alternatively (eg, if the LE-SIG signals are not repeated), no LE-SIG symbol combiner block can be used and the LE-SIG data path can provide signals from the FFT block directly to the differential demapper. The differential demapper block may determine the value of each bit (tone) based on the difference relative to the previous tone; for example, if a sound is rotated from the previous sound, which may indicate a '1', whereas if a sound is the same sound as the previous sound, this may indicate a '0'. If the LE-SIG uses the coding (eg r = ½ coding), the Viterbi block can also be used as part of the decoding of the LE-SIG, after which the CRC LE can be checked to verify that the LE- SIG SIG was properly decoded. Alternatively, if the LE-SIG is uncoded, the data path from the differential demapper can go directly to the CRC LE check.
If the receiver is the intended receiver for the packet, then the channel estimation based on the L-LTF field can be performed using the channel estimation block, followed by the L-SIG field and subsequent fields (which can be coded coherently) ) can be decoded using the coherent detection in which the demapper and Viterbi blocks are decoded.
As noted above, the data path controller may identify which preamble type is being received (e.g., legacy or LE) and switch the data path accordingly. For the LE preambles, the data path controller may also check the destination and length information in the LE-SIG to determine whether to proceed with the packet or drop it. The identification of the preamble type may be performed in any of various ways as desired; as an option, the L-LTF frame structure can be used to quickly recognize whether or not a field (e.g., the second field of the PHY preamble) is the L-LTF.
