Description
The present invention relates to a composition for removing superficially adherent lichens. It also relates to a method of removing superficially adherent lichen and to the use of the composition of the invention for removing lichen on mineral surfaces.
Lichen (Lichen) is a symbiotic cohabitation between a fungus, the so-called mycobionts, and one or more photosynthesis partners. These photobionts are green algae or cyanobacteria. Green algae are also known as phyto-bacteria in symbiosis, and cyanobacteria as cyanobionts. The properties of the lichens are clearly different from those of the organisms of which they are composed. Only in the symbiosis do the typical growth forms of the lichens develop, and only in cohabitation with a photobiont do the mycobionts form the characteristic lichens acids.
Lichens exist in a wide range of colors ranging from white to bright yellow, various shades of brown, rich orange, deep red, pink, olive green, teal and gray to deep black.
The fungus almost always forms the actual vegetation body of the lichen, a network of fungal threads (hyphae), the so-called camp; This includes a population of photobionts. Most lichens consist of several layers.
According to the growth habit and the bearing surface of the camp, also called mushroom thallus, a distinction is made between crusted lichens, foliage or leaf lichen, shrub lichen and lichen lichens.
A crust lichen consists of camps, which are called Areoles. These do not always close tightly together. You can sit alone or too few a prothallus. Furthermore, granular, firelike or scabrous coatings on plant remains, mosses, bark and soil can be formed. It creates a false bark by the death of the outermost layer of the camp as well as by mucousing of the cell remains. The growth of the thallus is reproduced from this necral layer of the clogging, dying cells.
A foliage or leaf lichen is flat (folios) and is more or less loosely on the substrate. Morphologically, the lichens are very diverse and populate different habitats such as mosses, but also on rocks. As with plant leaves, the leaf-like growth optimizes the light output for the photosynthesis of the photobiont. The growth zone is located on the leaf margins.
The thallus of the shrub lichen is shrubby and grows as an upright lawn on earth or rock or depends on trees, deadwood or rocks (bearded or band lichen). The growth zone is at the end of each branch.
Gelatinous lichens are lichens with cyanobacteria as a partner, which swell on moistening gelatinous and are usually blackish to dark olive-colored.
Lichens inhabit a wide variety of locations such as tree bark, rocks, soils and even rusted metal, paint or plastics; Some robust species are even found on busy roads. Many species of lichens are substrate specific, meaning that they only thrive on basic rocks such as limestone or dolomite or acidic lime-free silicate rocks such as quartz, gneiss or basalt.
Since lichens naturally make no distinction between substrates in natural and artificial environment, they are also often found on walls, roofs, fences or gravestones. The latter can be used to date lichen growth.
The lichens formed by the lichen play an important role in the weathering, as they attack rocks and thus contribute to soil formation.
Lichens are increasingly settling on mineral outdoor surfaces in recent years. These are often perceived as disturbing.
To kill lichens and thus prevent further growth, literature known quaternary ammonium compounds are also used. The mode of action is based on the death of the alga, which forms the fencing in symbiosis with a fungus.
However, the aforementioned tools and methods do not change the visual appearance of the lichen. The dead lichen body still adheres superficially to the proposed treatment.
It was therefore an object of the present invention to provide a means and a method for removing superficially adhering lichens, with which lichen adhering to the surface can not only be killed, but also dissolved or completely detached.
