Abstract
Verfahren zur Messung elektrischer Ströme, mit folgenden Merkmalen:Method for measuring electrical currents, with the following features:
Description
The invention relates to a method for measuring the current strength, in particular of direct current, which allows a very large range of values, typically of 6 to 7 orders of magnitude, to be recorded without the need for switching the measuring range.
The object of the invention is to create a method for direct current measurement over several (typically 6 to 7) decades, which is based on inexpensive and easily obtainable components, causes the smallest possible voltage drop, does not require a measuring range switch in the load circuit, the possibility of galvanic isolation for signal evaluation offers and has a low energy consumption.
According to the invention, the object is achieved in that the current to be measured is alternately deflected onto two different paths and brought together again by suitable switching elements. The resulting alternating direction of current flow causes alternating magnetic fields around the two paths, the intensities of which can be measured with known sensors and which are proportional to the current to be measured. The switching elements are driven alternately without gaps or even with a slight overlap, with the aim that the current to be measured always finds at least one path and is never interrupted during the measurement. The switching elements in the closed state as well as the current paths have the lowest possible ohmic resistance, so that the occurs voltage drop is also kept as low as possible. In contrast to the shunt measuring method, the voltage drop is not necessary at all for the method according to the invention to function and can be minimized to the extent necessary for the desired application. It is advantageous that the measuring signal is present as an alternating variable from the moment it is generated, so that thermal voltages and electronic offset errors do not have a falsifying influence. In addition, the measurement signal can be transmitted galvanically isolated with minimal effort, which makes it easier to use in circuits with a high working voltage. In addition to measuring direct current, the method is also suitable for alternating current. It is not even necessary, according to the sampling theorem, to dimension the switching frequency of the two current paths at least twice as high as the maximum expected frequency component of the alternating current. It is sufficient to evaluate the alternating measurement signal with the correct sign using the switching times of the switching elements, ie to carry out phase-synchronous rectification.
The invention will be explained in more detail below using an exemplary embodiment. In the figure, I is the current to be measured, T1 and T2 are preferably n-channel MOSFETs with on-resistances of 1 milliohm or less, which are alternately driven by square-wave signals S1, S2. The switching frequency is expediently around a few 100 Hz. The transformer Tr. is a push-through current transformer, as is customary in AC measurement technology. Thus, the primary windings L1 and L2 each consist of only one turn, i.e. two wires pass through the opening of the current transformer from opposite directions. Its secondary winding L3 usually has a number of turns of 1000 to 3000 and is operated approximately in the short circuit on the output side, either by connecting a low-impedance measuring resistor or by connecting it to the input of a transimpedance amplifier (i/u converter). Because the signal i,sec. represents an alternating variable, it can be further processed free of disturbing offset influences. With a current intensity I in the load circuit of, for example, 10 microamperes to 50 amperes and with a secondary winding of 1000 turns, the approximately square-wave measurement signal i,sec. has an effective value in the range of 10 nanoamps to 50 milliamps and can be processed easily and with low noise using modern operational amplifier circuits. Regardless of how this processing is carried out - whether with manual or automatic change of the measuring range or by means of an evaluation device which, without changing the range and the latency times caused thereby, the entire range for i, sec. processed - no switching is required in the load circuit.
