Description
The invention relates to a redox-flux energy storage, comprising a converter unit for converting chemical into electrical and from electrical to chemical energy, with at least one storage device for storing an electrically conductive liquid energy carrier and with at least one line for conducting the storable in the storage device liquid Energy carrier to the converter unit and / or to direct the liquid energy carrier from the converter unit to the storage device.
A redox flow energy storage device, also known as a redox flow battery or redox flow battery, is an electrochemical system for storing and converting electrical or chemical energy. Such an energy store is characterized by a spatial separation from a converter unit, which is also called a membrane stack or stack, and associated storage devices or tanks. Depending on the operating mode, the converter unit converts chemical energy into electrical energy or electrical energy into chemical energy and determines the power of the redox flow energy storage device. The storage devices serve to store electrically conductive liquid energy carriers, usually electrolytes, and determine the capacity of the redox flow energy store.
To the transducer unit, the energy sources in the form of liquids, such as in a vanadium redox accumulator, or gases, such as in a vanadium-air accumulator, zoom in or out of the storage device. Thus, one, for example hydraulic, piping between the converter unit, so the energy converter, and the storage devices, ie the energy storage, available or necessary.
Depending on whether in a mode of operation chemical is converted into electrical energy or electrical energy into chemical energy, the converter unit generates voltages or voltages. Accordingly, when using an electrolyte as an energy carrier, ions are converted into the electrolyte and their concentration in the storage devices or storage containers is changed. The energy sources are often based on water or acid and have an electrical conductivity which, although low, can not be neglected. Therefore, at high voltages of the redox flow energy storage for electrical insulation of the energy carrier in the tank of the energy source in the converter unit in front of and behind the converter unit due to the system sometimes very long distances required. With today's voltages of the converter units of less than 150 volts (V) insulation distances of a few meters are needed. However, these lengths can be up to 20 meters and are determined by the electrical conductivity of the energy carrier.
It is the object of the present invention to increase the performance of a redox flow energy store.
This object is solved by the subjects of the independent claims. Advantageous embodiments will become apparent from the dependent claims, the description and the figures.
The invention relates to a redox flow energy storage, with a converter unit for converting depending on the selected operating mode either chemical in electrical or electrical energy into chemical energy. The redox flow energy store may also be a redox flow battery or a redox flow battery. The redox flow energy store comprises at least one storage device for storing an electrically conductive liquid energy carrier, and at least one line for directing the liquid energy store storable in the storage device to the converter unit and / or for directing the liquid energy carrier from the converter unit to the storage device.
In order to increase the performance of the redox flow energy storage, the line comprises a decoupling device. By means of the decoupling device, a predetermined amount of the liquid energy carrier is galvanically separated from a first portion of the liquid Energieträgres, wherein the first portion is present in a first region of the conduit. By means of the decoupling device, the galvanically separated predetermined quantity of the liquid energy carrier can subsequently be supplied to a second portion of the liquid energy carrier, the second portion being present in one of the first and second different regions of the line. By means of the decoupling device, a permanent decoupling of a first electrical potential of the liquid energy carrier in the first region of the line from a second electrical potential of the liquid energy carrier in the second region of the line can thus take place.
In this case, a mass flow of the liquid energy carrier and thus an electric current through the decoupling device is maintained. At the same time, however, the electrical interruption of the mass flow, in particular of the hydraulic mass flow, is achieved from the storage device, for example a liquid reservoir. A transfer of voltage potentials from the converter unit into the storage device can thus by Inserting insulating sections, such as air gaps or other insulation distances, are avoided in the mass flow.
This has the advantage that the length of the line required for electrical insulation of the energy source in the storage device from the energy source in the converter unit can be reduced. Thus, space can be saved and used to increase the performance. Furthermore, due to the electrical insulation or interruption of the redox flow energy storage can be operated with a higher voltage and thus the performance of the redox flow energy storage can be increased. It is also possible in a simplified manner a series connection of a plurality of converter units with a common memory device feasible.
The redox flow energy storage may also include the liquid energy source. In this case, the liquid energy carrier can be a liquid energy store and in particular an electrolyte.
Accordingly, in a further embodiment, it is provided that converter unit, storage device, line and decoupling device are each designed for a liquid energy store, in particular an electrolyte, as a liquid energy carrier. This has the advantage that a predetermined amount of the liquid energy carrier can be galvanically separated from the first component in a particularly simple manner, for example by means of a suitable hydraulic device as part of the decoupling device.
In a further embodiment, it is provided that the decoupling device comprises a reservoir arranged on the second region of the line and a metering device arranged on the first region of the line, wherein the metering device in the operation of the redox flow energy store with the liquid energy carrier in a gravitational field over the reservoir is arranged and adapted to separate the predetermined amount of the liquid energy carrier from the first portion of the energy carrier and drop by gravity into the reservoir. The liquid energy carrier thus has a greater gravitational potential in the metering device than in the reservoir. Thus, a gas, for example air, can be introduced into the mass flow of the liquid energy carrier, which separates the two electrical potentials of the respective components in the first and the second region of the line. This is particularly easy to achieve with a liquid energy source. In this case, the electrical decoupling of the mass flow can be effected by a dripping of the liquid energy carrier, for example in a so-called drop tower. The electrical decoupling of the mass flow can also be done by a hydraulic waterfall. This has the advantage that a complete electrical decoupling of the two potentials is realized. Leakage currents or compensation currents are thus effectively prevented.
In this case, provision may in particular be made for the metering device to comprise a valve which can be operated in particular in a clocked mode. This has the advantage that the size of the predetermined amount of the liquid energy carrier is precisely adjustable and can be flexibly adapted to respective needs.
The metering device may also comprise a rotating breaker element, in particular a rotating perforated disc. Depending on the position of the same, the energy carrier can flow through the holes of the perforated disk or not. The rotating perforated disc may consist of or comprise an electrically insulating material. The size of the predetermined amount can be adjusted via a rotation speed of the breaker element. This has the advantage that the predetermined amount of the liquid energy carrier can be galvanically separated at low cost so as to be wear-resistant. This is especially useful for continuous operation.
Furthermore, it can be provided here that the metering device comprises a pump operable in a pulsed mode. This has the advantage that not only the predetermined amount of the liquid energy carrier can be galvanically separated by means of the pump, but also the pump at the same time can replace other pumps, as they are usually required in a redox flow energy storage. Thus, the self-consumption required for maintaining the operation of the redox flow energy storage device does not increase, and the performance of the redox flow energy storage device is increased particularly efficiently.
It can be provided here, via the pump control, or via a detection of a pump characteristic by a pump or the pump control associated measuring device to perform a state analysis of the redox flow energy storage. For example, a viscosity and / or a pressure of the liquid energy carrier can be determined via a pumping resistor, from which, for example, a charge carrier saturation of a liquid energy carrier can be derived. This has the advantage that the knowledge of the viscosity of the energy carrier can be used to optimally control the metering device, so that the galvanic separated predetermined amount while maintaining the galvanic separation can be chosen as large as possible.
In an advantageous embodiment it is provided that in the second region of the line, a further rotating breaker element is arranged, in particular a further rotating perforated disc. This has the advantage that the electrical decoupling can be improved by the electrical decoupling achieved by the decoupling device is again secured.
The redox flow energy store may comprise two rotating breaker elements or perforated disks. In this case, the breaker elements, for example the perforated disks, can be operated offset, so that when one breaker element allows the liquid energy carrier to flow through, the other breaker element does not. When using two perforated disks, this can be done for example via an offset of the holes in the perforated disk with respect to the holes in the other perforated disk. This has the advantage of redundant protection of the electrical decoupling.
In a preferred embodiment it is provided that the decoupling comprises a pump, in particular an axial piston pump and / or a reciprocating pump and / or a diaphragm pump with electrically insulating check valve, wherein in an operation of the redox flow energy storage with the liquid energy carrier respective with the first portion of the liquid energy in contact components of the pump are electrically isolated from respective in contact with the second portion of the liquid energy components of the pump components. This has the advantage that the galvanic separation is independent of position. Also, a continuous volume flow which can be controlled via the rotational speed is generated. It is also advantageous combines the pumping property and insulation property in one component. Thus, the performance of the redox flow energy storage is improved.
It can be used in a closed hydraulic overall system with a liquid energy source this pump. This has the advantage that the pumping losses are reduced to pipe friction losses, since the lifting work is minimized. Also, no further pumps in the line are required. Thus, the performance of the redox flow energy storage is increased.
In a particularly advantageous embodiment, it is provided that the redox flow energy storage comprises a plurality of converter units which are electrically connected in series. These can be coupled via respective lines to a common storage device with the same liquid energy carrier. In this case, each of the respective lines may have its own decoupling device. Thus, a respective liquid energy carrier located in the respective converter unit can be disconnected electrically from the liquid energy carrier located in the common storage device during operation of the redox flow energy store. Thus, the voltage can be increased while maintaining the current flow. Especially in such series circuits, the problem of ion reflux results in the common memory. This is prevented by the decoupling devices, so that equalizing currents over the liquid energy carrier between the converter units are avoided. Thus, greater voltages of the redox flow energy storage and greater performance can be achieved. It can be chosen smaller because of the increased voltage in such a series circuit, a voltage transmission ratio of an electrical voltage converter for coupling the redox flow energy storage to an electrical supply network. This increases the life and performance of the redox flow energy store, which in the latter case also includes the voltage converter.
It may also be provided in the case of several converter units to lay the converter units on one side to a single common reference potential. In this case, a potential separation, as required for connecting the redox flow energy storage device to an electrical supply network, can be realized by an electrotechnical voltage converter. This has the advantage that there are no free or loose potentials, but all potentials are in a fixed relationship to each other and a simpler electronics can be used.
In particular, it may also be provided here to use resonance isolating converters on the side of the electrotechnical voltage converter with the higher voltage potential. Thus, the power loss is reduced when feeding a provided by the redox flow energy storage capacity in the electrical supply network.
The invention also relates to a method for operating a redox-flux energy storage device with a series of steps. One step here is the conversion of chemical into electrical or from electrical to chemical energy by means of a converter unit. A further step is storing at least one electrically conductive liquid energy carrier in a storage device. Another step is to direct the liquid energy carrier stored in the storage device a conduit to the transducer unit and / or directing the liquid energy source from the transducer unit through a conduit to the storage device. The method also includes electrically isolating a predetermined amount of the liquid energy source from a first portion of the liquid energy source by means of a decoupling device, which is part of the line, the first portion being present in a first region of the line. Furthermore, the method comprises supplying the galvanically separated predetermined amount of the liquid energy carrier to a second portion of the liquid energy carrier by means of the decoupling device, wherein the second portion is present in a second region of the conduit. Advantages and advantageous embodiments of the method correspond here to advantages and advantageous embodiments of the redox flow energy storage.
