Description
Stand der TechnikState of the art
This invention relates to a method of providing electrical voltage from an electrochemical cell. In addition, the invention relates to a battery with an electrochemical cell.
In the prior art, it is known to make a plurality of electrochemical cells within a battery connectable to a battery terminal. The battery connection is intended to form an interface to externally connected devices or consumers. By switching on and off of individual cells, the voltage of the battery output at the battery terminal can be adjusted. In particular, such a procedure is also known for intrinsically safe batteries. Such an intrinsically safe battery comprises at least one battery cell, two power semiconductor components, in particular transistors, which are typically connected in half-bridge arrangement with terminals of the battery cell, and a cell monitoring circuit with an integrated control device, with which the power semiconductor devices, in particular as a semiconductor switch, can be controlled. By means of the power semiconductor components, individual cells can be disconnected from or connected to the battery terminal in order to take their voltage from the battery terminal or to additionally switch it on or to prevent current flow from the cell or to allow it. In a normal current output or charging operation of the cell, a branch of the half-bridge is switched through, with which the cell voltage can be added to the battery output voltage. Alternatively, this branch of the half-bridge can be turned off and the other branch of the half-bridge can be turned on to short-circuit the terminals of the battery cell without short-circuiting the cell itself. In this way, the cell voltage is switched out of the series in a series connection of several cells, so that it is not effective at the battery terminal. If the cell enters an inadmissible state, for example, exceeds or falls below a maximum or minimum voltage or a maximum or minimum temperature, the safety of the battery may be compromised. The branch of the half-bridge connecting the cell to the battery terminal is then turned off, after which the branch of the half-bridge short-circuiting the terminals of the cell is turned on. Such a battery has an increased intrinsic safety. It is also known to use a full bridge arrangement with four power semiconductor switches, which additionally allows reversal of the voltage direction of the cell voltage with respect to the battery voltage to the battery terminal.
In order to achieve a predetermined setpoint voltage as the output voltage of the battery, the control device makes it possible to connect one or more battery cells with a presettable probability in series or in parallel. A predeterminable probability value is compared with random numbers, whereby the result of the comparison depends on whether a cell is switched on or not. Since this process is the same for all cells, they are used equally. The result is the possibility to obtain as battery output voltage all stages that are possible by the connection of individual cells. In particular, if only a few cells are present, this may be a relatively crude step. Even in a battery with many cells, it is desirable in some applications to have an even finer grading available.
Offenbarung der ErfindungDisclosure of the invention
According to the invention, a method is proposed with which an adjustable electrical voltage can be provided at a cell terminal of an electrochemical cell. In this method, the cell is connectable or separable from the cell terminal by means of a connector. In this way, for example, the cell voltage may be provided at a battery terminal, and in particular for superposition with the cell voltage of further cells, or this provision may be omitted. The connecting device, which preferably comprises semiconductor switches as main functional elements, is controlled according to the invention by a control device such that a mean voltage applied to the cell connection can be varied. This is made possible by controlling a voltage profile at the cell terminal in such a way that in each successive time period either no voltage is supplied from the cell or the full voltage is made available from the cell or the cell voltage within a time interval according to a duty cycle temporarily applied and temporarily not applied. In this way, the time averaged voltage output from the electrochemical cell to the cell terminal is adjustable to values between zero voltage and the cell voltage. Zero voltage means in this patent application that no voltage is applied to the cell terminal. In contrast, according to the prior art, only the cell voltage or zero voltage can be made available for the battery. The adjustability is made possible by the addition of the time dimension for the variation of the output voltage. In this case, time segments are used which are shorter than a period in which the voltage at the cell terminal must be constant. Such a relevant period is typically a period that is followed by a period Smoothing device or by throttling properties of a supplied consumer can be specified. The smoothing device or the consumer need not be connected directly to the cell terminal, but may also be connected to the battery terminal of the battery that includes the cell.
An advantage of the invention is that, depending on the number of time periods and the fineness of a possible duty cycle on a cell, a cell may be subjected to a u.U. very fine adjustable output voltage values are possible. Preferably, the time periods are the same length. The time segments preferably follow one another directly. If the voltage profile consists exclusively of time sections controlled by the control device through the connection device, complete control of the average cell voltage at the cell connection is possible.
The ability to disconnect the cell output from the electrochemical cell provides an intrinsically safe cell. The ability to also set the voltage setpoint to 0 gives an additional way to turn off the cell.
Die Unteransprüche zeigen bevorzugte Weiterbildungen der Erfindung. The dependent claims show preferred developments of the invention.
In one embodiment of the method, the time segments are realized in succession by driving the connection device within one cycle time. After such a cycle, according to this embodiment, another cycle is performed with the time periods. Preferably, one cycle is assigned a predetermined average voltage. A control which regulates the averaged voltage can, for example, once again specify a value for the average voltage to be output after one cycle. The sequence of time segments is interchangeable in many cases, without changing the time-averaged output voltage of the cell.
In a further embodiment of the method, the duty cycles in the time periods are different from each other. In one variant, the duty cycles in successive cycles are the same until, for example, a new value for the average voltage to be output is specified. It does not matter which period of time occupies which temporal position in a voltage curve. Each of the time slots may be considered as a virtual sub-cell, with the real battery cell as a whole composed of as many virtual sub-cells as there are periods of time in the waveform. As a result of the different duty cycles, the various virtual sub-cells have different virtual partial voltages, which can be assigned to them, of the average total voltage of the cell applied to the cell connection. It applies to cyclically repeated periods of time: where V total represents the time averaged output voltage of the cell, n the number of time slots, and V virtually represents the virtual divisional voltage resulting from the length of the time segment relative to the cycle time length and a duty cycle existing within the time period. In one variant, there are as many different duty cycles as the number of time periods, in particular in one cycle. It is also conceivable to give each period a different length than the other periods. In this way, each period of time has a different weight in the voltage waveform at the cell terminal. In particular, when only the
In a further embodiment of the method, a random number is generated for each time segment, which is in each case compared with a voltage specification value. In this comparison, it is decided whether the voltage command value is considered to be larger or smaller than the random number and, accordingly, whether or not the cell voltage is applied to the cell output in the period. Alternatively, it may be determined whether or not a duty ratio is applied within the period when applying the cell voltage, and if so, the duty ratio is set. In yet another variant, the length of the time segment can be specified. As a result of the measures mentioned, it is possible for a higher or lower average voltage to be applied to the cell connection, depending on the size of the voltage preset value. Short-term deviations due to the statistical nature of this process are averaged out by the large number of time periods. The voltage setpoint is preferably the same for all virtual cells or time slots, and in this case a single voltage setpoint for the real cell. A controller that manages the voltage of the real cell can thus specify by default of a single voltage preset value, which output voltage to deliver the cell. The voltage set value causes, depending on his Size is a greater or lesser proportion of the time in which all the time periods lie, for example one cycle, the cell voltage is applied to the cell output or is not applied. The time portion is preferably divided according to the plurality of time periods real into many short portions of the time portion, each lying in different time periods. If the application and disconnection of the cell voltage is faster than the period over which a constant voltage is needed, or the output voltage from the cell is smoothed, the dynamic output voltage through the time segments is for supplying consumers or for superimposing on other cell voltages well suited. If it is determined by comparing the voltage specification value with the random number whether the cell voltage is applied to the cell output at all or not, in a variant, a duty ratio applied in the relevant period can be predefined. This may in particular be 1 or 0, which means a permanent connection of the cell voltage to the cell output or a separation of the cell voltage from the cell output. If this is applied, then the maximum and minimum possible voltage, namely the full cell voltage or no voltage can be present at the cell output. The temporally averaged voltage at the cell connection can then be represented mathematically as follows: wherein V total, the time-averaged output voltage of the cell, V cell, the cell voltage, n the number of time periods and n T, the information to each time period, whether the comparison of the voltage set value has a positive or negative result with the random number to the time section, and has corresponding to the result, a value of 0 or 1. The formula applies to periods of equal length. Similar to the above-mentioned methods and obvious combinations of the said influence on the voltage at the cell output are also conceivable.
Random numbers also include pseudo-random numbers. As a result of the comparison of the random numbers with the voltage specification value, digital numbers, in particular as a sequence of digital numbers or as a digital number vector, can be generated. From the duty cycles, which can be valid for each of the virtual cells or for each time period, a virtual cell voltage of a virtual cell can be derived in each case. The sum of these cell voltages V 1 , V 2 ... V n results in the average cell voltage at the cell connection if the voltage profile at the cell terminal comprises only the aforementioned time intervals. Since the determination of the voltages of the individual virtual cells is a stochastic process, the average voltage actually applied to the cell output can deviate from the voltage which is predetermined by the voltage preset value. However, over a longer period of time, the average voltage at the cell output approaches the voltage value given by the voltage setpoint.
In a further embodiment of the method, it is proposed to apply at least one of the embodiments of the invention described above to a plurality of battery cells, which are preferably combined in one battery. Thus, it is possible for the individual battery cells to output voltages lying between zero voltage and their cell voltage, so that it is not necessary to output individual voltages from the battery, which is between zero voltage and a maximum possible battery voltage, at full voltage to the battery outlet while other battery cells are not being discharged. In this way, the use of the individual cells in the battery can be made uniform. In addition, a very fine gradation of the output voltage of the battery is possible by the plurality of virtual cells, in particular, if all the battery cells are driven according to the invention. Another advantage is that the multiplicity of simultaneous time intervals makes the output voltage more uniform than with a single cell.
In a further embodiment of the method, it is proposed to regulate the voltage output from a cell or a battery having a plurality of cells, which is applied to the battery terminal or the cell terminal by one of the methods described above. Due to the statistical procedure when applying cell voltages to an output, it may happen that the output voltage deviates from a predetermined voltage. Therefore, it may be useful to determine the expected output voltage, which is purely mathematically possible. The determined value can be fed back in a control loop and the voltage preset value can be adjusted accordingly. For this purpose, for example, a P-control or a PI control is conceivable. The control can be applied to one cell or to an entire multi-cell battery. In the latter case, preferably the same voltage specification value is given to all battery cells. Then only a single regulation is required. In addition to the purely mathematical control, it is also conceivable to measure real the voltage output of a cell or a whole battery and the measured value as actual value of a control. Control deviations can be caused, for example, by a discharge of the cells whose voltage drops in the discharge operation. Even with a real feedback control, a P or PI control can be used. The control device is preferably a part of the control device with which the connection device can be controlled.
In a further aspect of the invention, an electrochemical cell is proposed which has at least one connecting device and a control device, wherein the control device is set up to carry out one of the methods described above.
In yet a further aspect of the invention, a battery is proposed which comprises at least one electrochemical cell, at least one connection device associated with at least one of the electrochemical cells, and a control device, wherein the control device is configured to perform one of the methods described above. Thereby, such a battery can output voltages between zero voltage and a maximum battery voltage with a very fine gradation. By short switching times of the connection device, for less than 3 ms, less than 1 ms or less than 0.3 ms, time sections can be kept very short, which can lead to quasi-stable mean output voltages in the range of a few ms to a zig ms , This also applies to the other aspects of the invention.
