Description

The present invention relates to a method for producing high energy magnets comprising light and heavy rare earth metals, characterized in that at least one heavy rare earth metal is introduced by electrolysis of an ionic liquid containing at least one guanidinium compound in the permanent magnet.

Stand der Technik State of the art

In general, materials that are suitable for the construction of permanent magnets, characterized by two different characteristics. First, after treatment within a magnetic field, these materials exhibit a high level of magnetism which remains within the material. This is commonly referred to as the remanence B of the material. On the other hand, these materials show a sufficiently high coercive force H, so that a complete demagnetization of the magnets takes place only at high field strengths. For permanent magnets, therefore, the magnetism must both be sufficiently strong in the material "impressible" and on the other hand, the magnetism must also "adhere" enough in the material.

At the beginning of the last century, igniters made of magnetic steels were used in the automotive sector, replacing them with more efficient materials in the course of technical progress. These materials were often based on alloys containing rare earth metals. Particularly effective materials for permanent magnets were obtained by a combination of light rare earth LRE ("light rare earth") with heavy rare earth elements HRE ("heavy rare earth"). By alloying the heavy rare earths to conventional permanent magnets, which usually contain light rare earths, for example in a composition (Nd, Pr) FeB, the magnetocrystalline anisotropy of the tetragonal hard magnetic phase and thus the coercive field strength of the permanent magnets ( Sagawa et al., IEEE Trans. Mal. MAG-20 (1984) 1584 ). Due to the higher coercive field strength, the application temperature range of the permanent magnets thus produced increases, which makes these alloys particularly interesting for permanent magnet excited electrical machines.

In the alloys thus improved, an atom of the HRE (mostly Dy or Tb) occupies a lattice site of an LRE (Nd or Pr). Due to the electron configuration of the HRE atom, however, its magnetic moment couples antiparallel to the lattice of the permanent magnet, which leads to a reduction of the magnetic moment. This decrease in the magnetic moment causes a decrease in the magnetization J or characteristic characteristic (B × H) max of the magnetic material.

The alloying of HRE components in RE permanent magnet materials can thus have an advantageous effect on the magnetic properties of permanent magnets.

From the Japanese patent application JP 01-117303 For example, a method is known in which first of all a layer of HRE metal (Tb, Dy, Al, Ga) is formed on the surface of a conventional LRE magnet, which diffuses into the magnetic material along the grain boundaries during a subsequent temperature step. Thus, a layer near the surface of the magnet is formed with a higher coercive force composition. Due to the partial introduction, the magnetization in the remaining magnetic material remains unaffected and a magnet with significantly higher coercive field strength is produced, the magnetization of which is only insignificantly reduced compared to the starting material. The document discloses that the HRE layer can be deposited by sputtering (sputtering). However, sputtering is very expensive as a vacuum process and costly due to the usually present batch operation.

In addition to the vacuum deposition (PVD, sputtering) methods of permanent magnet production are known, wherein HRE compounds in the form of pastes (either as metal powder in a protective environment or in the form of HRE fluorides as DyF 3 suspension) are applied. If compounds of the HRE metals are used, there is always the danger of damaging the magnet due to the penetration of impurities (especially in the subsequent heat treatment) - for example, penetration of oxygen, carbon, etc. would be very unfavorable precisely at the grain boundaries for the magnetic properties ,

In principle, electrolytic processes for the deposition of metals from solutions are known (nickel plating, copper plating, etc.). The deposition of reactive metals (eg Dy or Al or Ti) is relatively difficult because of the negative redox potentials of the elements and the electrical voltages required thereby, since there is always the danger that the solvent decomposes under high voltages. For Dy, the deposition of metallic layers from anhydrous organic solutions of Dy-triflate in DMF has been reported ( Lodermeyer et al. J. Electrochem. Soc., 153, 4, C242-C248 (2006) ). In addition, it has been proposed for reactive metals (such as Al or Ti) to use so-called "ionic liquids" as inert electrolytes with high electrochemical windows.

For example, this describes the WO 2006 061081 A2 a method for the electrochemical deposition of tantalum and / or copper on a substrate. The ionic liquid contains at least one tetraalkylammonium, tetraalkylphosphonium, 1,1-dialkylpyrrolidinium, 1-hydroxyalkyl-1-alkylpyrrolidinium, 1-hydroxyalkyl-3-alkylimidazolium or bis (1-hydroxyalkyl) imidazolium cation, wherein the alkyl groups or the alkylene chain in the 1-hydroxyalkyl group may each independently have 1 to 10 carbon atoms. However, an application or suitability of this method in the field of production of high-performance magnets is not described.

Furthermore, the disclosed EP 1363345 A2 and the US 2003 0211389 A1 a liquid at room temperature, non-aqueous electrolyte consisting of a cation having a guanidinium radical and an anion. The cation is alkyl. Alicyclic or aromatic groups which asymmetrically substituted the guanidinium compound. As an example, tetramethylguanidinium is called bistrifluoromethanesulfonylimide, which can be used within primary or secondary electrochemical cells and capacitors. An application or suitability of these classes of compounds in the field of production of high-performance magnets, however, is not described.

Besonderes Augenmerk in der Auswahl der IL bei der Herstellung von Hochleistungsmagneten sind dabei zu richten auf: Surprisingly, it has now been possible, through the testing of specific requirements, to identify those classes of compounds and individual compounds within the group of guanidinium cations containing IL, which have an improved efficiency compared to the prior art. Particular attention should be paid to the selection of IL in the production of high-performance magnets:

a) Phasenverhalten a) phase behavior

The IL should be liquid in the application temperature range and have the lowest possible viscosity at operating temperature. This allows a higher mobility of the charge carriers and thus leads to a faster response and usually to a more effective charge transport. For electrolysis applications such as e.g. higher deposition rates. A means for adapting the phase behavior of the IL arises through the choice of the substituents of the cation. For example, the attachment of bulky organic side groups on the cation usually to a lower IL melting point. The ionic liquid should dissolve the metal's starting salts well and not interact with the electrode.

b) Restfeuchte b) Residual moisture

The IL should not be hygroscopic as a compound. Furthermore, the residual moisture content of the IL during processing should be kept as low as possible and best kept small. This can be ensured, for example, by predrying the IL or by using an inert gas during processing. A low residual moisture prevents the corrosion of water-sensitive metals and increases the electrochemical window of the electrolyte. In particular, the decomposition of water to electrodes (magnetic material) by the high applied voltages can lead to damage of the material by hydrogen embrittlement.

The IL should have high electrochemical stability and, concomitantly, a broad electrochemical window. This reduces the possibility of unwanted side reactions on electrodes and the decomposition of the electrolyte. Less unwanted by-products are accumulated in the electrolysis bath, which reduces the amount of impurities in the magnet.

The IL should be chemically inert. In addition to the loss of the electrolyte by electrochemical processes, the loss of IL should be excluded by reactions with electrodes or metals or their admixtures. This can avoid contamination in the permanent magnet.

d) Löslichkeit für Metallsalze d) solubility for metal salts

For electrolytic applications, the solubility of the IL should be as high as possible for those metal salts which are to be electrodeposited. This can simplify the process management by a smaller number of additional dosing and lead to an advantageous process kinetics for the deposition.

The intrinsic conductivity of the IL should be as high as possible. Compared to conventional organic solvents, high intrinsic conductivity ILs are of interest for electrolysis applications because they can reduce the voltage drop across the electrolyte and the influence of local current density perturbations. High intrinsic conductivities usually lead to a more homogeneous deposition of the metal on the electrode.

Taking into account the aforementioned points, a defined class of compounds results, which is particularly suitable as IL for the production of high-performance magnets.

It is therefore the object of the present invention to overcome the disadvantages of the previously known methods for the production of high-performance permanent magnets and to provide an alternative and less expensive coating method for permanent magnets in which at least one heavy rare earth metal by electrolysis of an ionic liquid containing at least one guanidinium compound in a permanent magnet is introduced.

This problem is solved by the features of claim 1. Particular embodiments of the invention are given in the dependent claims.

According to the invention, a method for the production of high energy magnets comprising light and heavy rare earth metals, characterized in that at least one heavy rare earth metal is introduced by electrolysis of an ionic liquid containing at least one guanidinium compound in the permanent magnet.

By means of electrolysis, the heavy rare earth metal salts dissolved in the electrolytic liquid can be deposited on the surface of the light rare earth metals present in the electrolytic bath. This is done by means of electrolysis significantly more economical than the previously proposed methods, which use a sputtering method for introducing the heavy rare earth metals. The heavy rare earth metals are deposited electrochemically on the surface of the permanent magnet and then, by means of a further thermal process step outside the electrolysis bath, distributed within a thin surface layer in the permanent magnet by a diffusion process. The concentration or the amount of the deposited heavy rare earth metals can be easily adjusted in the electrolysis, for example over the duration of electrolysis or the flowing electrolysis in the electrolysis fluid. A complete penetration of the permanent magnet with the heavy rare earth metals in the process of the following thermal process step is not according to the invention. The permanent magnets can be hegestellt by any common method of the prior art. This is done, for example, by isostatic pressing of the alloy powders in the magnetic field and subsequent sintering.

Figure DE102013202254A1_0002
The guanidinium compound according to the invention are present as an anion cation pair or, in certain cases, as a zwitterion, it being possible for the cation of the compounds to have the following general basic structure:
Figure DE102013202254A1_0002
where the substituents R 1 -R 6 are generally organic radicals. The guanidinium compounds fall into the class of IIs or light-melting salts and lead as electrolysis liquid to some process advantages. On the one hand, the representatives of this substance class generally have a low melting point (up to 250 ° C), so that the energy required for liquefaction compared to other Ils is significantly lower. This class of compound has a large electrochemical window, shows high intrinsic conductivity, is inert to the process compounds used, exhibits high ion mobility and high solubility for the heavy rare earth metals. According to the invention, only one or more heavy rare earth metals can be deposited on the permanent magnet via the method. In addition, it is also possible to separate both heavy rare earth metals and light rare earth metals individually or together via the electrolysis on the permanent magnet.

High-energy magnets in the context of the invention are permanent magnets containing metals from the group of rare earths (lanthanides) with an energy product of the magnet of more than 350 kJ / m 3 . A possible composition of a high-energy magnet results, for example, in (Nd, Dy) FeB.

Die Gruppe der erfindungsgemäß verwendbaren seltenen Erden umfasst dabei ein Element aus der Gruppe umfassend Lanthan, Cer, Praseodym, Neodym, Promethium, Samarium, Europium, Gadolinium, Terbium, Dysprosium, Holmium, Erbium, Thulium, Ytterbium, Lutetium. Die Gruppe der leichten Seltenerdmetalle enthält dabei die Elemente aus der Gruppe umfassend Scandium, Lanthan, Cer, Praesodym, Neodym, Promethium, Samarium und Europium und die Gruppe der schweren Seltenerdmetalle enthält dabei die Elemente aus der Gruppe umfassend Yttrium, Gadolinium, Terbium, Dysprosium, Holmium, Erbium, Thulium, Ytterbium und Lutetium. The group of rare earths usable according to the invention comprises an element from the group comprising lanthanum, cerium, praseodymium, neodymium, promethium, samarium, europium, gadolinium, terbium, dysprosium, holmium, erbium, thulium, ytterbium, lutetium. The group of light rare earth metals contains the elements from the group comprising scandium, lanthanum, cerium, praseodymium, neodymium, promethium, samarium and europium and the group of heavy rare earth metals contains the elements from the group comprising yttrium, gadolinium, terbium, dysprosium, Holmium, erbium, thulium, ytterbium and lutetium.

Ionic liquids in the context of the invention are organic salts whose ions hinder the formation of a stable crystal lattice through charge delocalization and steric effects. As a result, even low thermal energies are sufficient to overcome the lattice energy of the crystal and break up the solid crystal structure. These are generally salts which are liquid at temperatures below 100 ° C. or which can be melted down to a temperature of 250 ° C., without the salt being dissolved in a solvent such as water.

In a particular embodiment of the invention, the guanidinium compound may comprise guanidinium cations of formula (I):
Figure DE102013202254A1_0003
where R 1 -R 6 can be selected independently of one another from the group comprising H, branched or unbranched C 1 -C 20 -alkyl, cycloalkyl, heteroalkyl, oligoether, oligoester, oligoamides, oligoacrylamides. This substituent pattern on the guanidinium cation has been found to be particularly advantageous in terms of electrochemical stability, solubility of the IL, and solubility of the heavy rare earth metals. For the purposes of the invention, oligoethers are understood as meaning, for example, substituents having the structure [-CH 2 -CH 2 -O-] n , where n may be chosen to be integer and between 1 and 10. Oligoesters as substituents have one or more structural units according to [-CH 2 -CO-O-] n , n being integer and between 1 and 10. Analogously, the structures of the oligoamide substituents result in [-CO-NR-] n and the structures of the oligoacrylamide substituents [-CH 2 -CHCONH 2 -] n .

In a particular embodiment, if the radicals R 1 -R 6 are selected from the group of the branched or unbranched C 1 -C 20 -alkyl, cycloalkyl, heteroalkyl, these additional ether groups (ethoxy, methoxy, etc.), esters, amide , Carbonate groups, -CN or halogens, in particular fluorine.

In a preferred embodiment, the substituent pattern R 1 -R 6 of the guanidinium compounds can be selected such that an asymmetrical substitution of the individual guanidinium compounds is possible. Nitrogen results. An asymmetric substitution means in particular that, for example, the substituents R 1 and R 2 are different from the other substituents R 3 -R 6 . This differential substitution of the individual guanidinium nitrogens can, in particular, contribute to achieving a very low melting point of the IL. This can contribute to process advantages and higher ion mobility.

In a further embodiment of the invention, the difference in carbon number between the substituents R 1 and R 2 and the "remaining" substituent R 3 -R 6 may be between C5 and C10. This in the sense that the substituents R 1 or R 2 5 can have up to 10 carbon units less per substituent, such as R 3 -R 6 .

Figure DE102013202254A1_0004
In a further aspect of the invention, the guanidinium compound may comprise guanidinium cations of formula (II):
Figure DE102013202254A1_0004
where R p = H, branched, unbranched or cyclic C 1 -C 20 -alkyl, heteroalkyl, aromatics, heteroaromatics and R 3 -R 6 can be selected independently of one another from the group of the branched or unbranched C 1 -C 20 -alkyl, heteroalkyl, oligoether, oligoester, Oligoamides, oligoacrylamides. The compounds Rp describe a substituent pattern, ie 0-10 independent substituents on the piperidine ring. In particular, the use of an IL with a guanidinium cation in which one of the nitrogens is integrated within a 6-membered heterocycle shows particular chemical and electrochemical stability and good solubility of the heavy rare earth metals in the course of the electrolysis. In addition, the benchmarks of this class of compounds are sufficiently low that these compounds can also be liquid at room temperature. Overall, preferred are the organic guanidinium salts having a melting point below 250 ° C.

In a further embodiment of the invention, the piperidine ring can only have exactly one substituent R p upwardly defined group or only R p = H. This embodiment can lead to an ionic liquid having a particularly low viscosity and high conductivities.

In a particular embodiment, R p may further be further substituted on the backbone of the substituent. The substituents of R p may be selected from the group comprising furan, thiophene, pyrrole, oxazole, thiazole, imidazole, isoxazole, isothazole, pyrazole, pyridine, pyrazine, pyrimidine, 1,3,6-triazine, pyrylium, alpha-pyrone, gamma Pyrroles, benzofuran, benzothiophene, indole 2H-isoindole, benzothiazole, 2-benzothiophene, 1H-benzimidazoles, 1H-benzotriazoles, 1,3-benzoxazoles, 2-benzofuran, 7H-purines, quinoline, iso-quinoline, quinazolines, quinoxalines, phthalazines, 1,2,4-benzotriazines, pyrido [2,3-d] pyrimidines, pyrido [3,2-d] pyrimidines, pteridines, acridines, phenazines, benzo [g] pteridines, 9H-carbazoles and bipyridine and their derivatives , The binding of the R p to the piperidine ring can occur at any bondable site of the piperidine ring.

Figure DE102013202254A1_0005
In an additional embodiment of the method, the guanidinium compound may comprise bis-guanidinium dications of formula (III):
Figure DE102013202254A1_0005
where R 1 -R 11 can be selected independently of one another from the group comprising branched or unbranched C 1 -C 20 -alkyl, heteroalkyl, cycloalkyl, oligoether, oligoester, oligoamides, oligoacrylamides. Guanidinium dications, due to their charge and their bulky steric skeleton, can provide especially chemically and electrochemically stable electrolytes.

Figure DE102013202254A1_0006
In a further aspect of the method according to the invention, the guanidinium compound may comprise a guanidinium betaine compound of formula (IV):
Figure DE102013202254A1_0006
wherein X = phosphate, phosphonate, -OH, -COOH, phosphate ester, phosphonate ester, polyphosphate, polyphosphonate and R 1 -R 6 may be independently selected from the group consisting of branched or unbranched C 1 -C 20 alkyl, cycloalkyl, heteroalkyl, oligoether, oligoester , Oligoamides, oligoacrylamides. Guanidinium-betaine compounds can be used in the cases particularly advantageous in the context of the electrolysis according to the invention, in which very low potentials must be applied, since they have a very high electrochemical window, as shown below by cyclovoltammetrischer measurements.

In a particular embodiment, to increase the solubility, the substituents R 1 and R 2 may be chosen differently from the substituents R 3 and R 4 , so that a further asymmetry results within the guanidinium skeleton. As a result, the solubility and the melting point of the guanidinium compounds can be positively influenced.

In a further preferred embodiment, the guanidinium compound may contain anions which are selected from the group comprising halide, carboxylate, sulfate, phosphate, triflate, Fe (CN 6 ) 2- / Fe (CN 6 ) 3- , fluorophosphate, fluoroborate, Cyanamide, fluoroalkylsulfonylmethanide, fluoroalkylsulfonamide. In addition to the steric configuration of the guanidinium skeleton, the melting point can be greatly influenced by the choice of the anion of the guanidinium compounds. The anions listed above lead to chemically and electrochemically very stable guanidinium compounds with low melting points and high ion mobility.

According to a further preferred embodiment of the method, the guanidinium compound contains anions which are selected from the group comprising hexafluorophosphate (PF 6 - ), tetrafluoroborate (BF 4 - ) and bistrifluoromethylsulfonamide (tf 2 N - ). Especially the selection of fluorine-containing anions and in particular those of the phosphates, borates and sulfonamides can lead to a special powerful IL, which are particularly suitable for use within an electrolytic process for producing a high performance magnet due to their solubility, stability, inertness and low melting point ,

According to an alternative embodiment of the method, the heavy rare earth metal is selected from the group Y, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, Lu. By the electrolytic deposition of a layer of these heavy rare earth metals can be obtained after a subsequent thermal process step, particularly powerful permanent magnets.

In a further aspect of the method according to the invention, the ionic liquid containing guanidinium compounds may have a residual moisture content of greater than or equal to 1 ppm and less than or equal to 200 ppm. Particularly low-reaction electrolyses may result if the electrolyte solution has a water content of less than or equal to 10 ppm.

In a particular embodiment, the guanidinium compounds and thus also the electrolyte solution for applying a heavy rare earth metal to a permanent magnet can be completely free of water. This can help to prevent the formation of hydrogen during the electrolysis, which can lead to embrittlement of the permanent magnet or other side reactions. The determination of the water content of the guanidinium compounds according to the invention can be carried out by means of methods known to the person skilled in the art, e.g. a Karl Fischer titration done. The guanidinium compounds according to the invention can have such a low water content prior to their use or can be adjusted to a water content within this range by means of thermal drying or by flowing with an inert gas.

In a further aspect of the method according to the invention, the ionic liquid containing guanidinium compounds may have a specific conductivity of greater than or equal to 1 mS / cm and less than or equal to 0.2 S / cm. For efficient performance of the electrolysis and to achieve high deposition rates of heavy rare earth metals, the guanidinium compound may have conductivity in the above-mentioned range. The conductivity values can be raised at the melting point of the respective IL. Lower conductivities are not in accordance with the present invention, as this may lead to lower quality results in the composition of the high performance magnet and disadvantageously long electrolysis times.

Furthermore, in a particular aspect of the method, the heavy rare earth metal concentration in the ionic liquid may be greater than or equal to 1 mmol / L and less than or equal to 1 mol / L. This concentration range of the heavy rare earth metals in the electrolysis has proved to be particularly advantageous, since thereby the most uniform possible coverage of the permanent magnet and the most effective separation can be achieved. The concentration of the heavy rare earth element in the IL can be adjusted by weighing in on IL and rare earth metal. Otherwise, the heavy rare earth metal can be detected quantitatively by methods known to those skilled in the art. These methods include, for example, energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDRFX), atomic absorption spectroscopy or ion chromatography.

Still further preferably, the concentration of the heavy rare earth metal in the ionic liquid may be greater than or equal to 10 mmol / L and less than or equal to 500 mmol / L.

In a further preferred embodiment, in order to improve the deposition of the rare earth metal salts on the permanent magnet surface, a preceding deposition of a thin adhesive layer, for example of Cu, Cr, Ni, etc., can take place. This can advantageously be applied by means of an upstream chemical or electrochemical process.

The subject matter within the meaning of the invention furthermore includes high-energy magnets comprising at least one heavy rare earth metal produced by the process according to the invention.

These magnets show improved performance and longer life.

The above-described characteristics, features, and advantages of this invention, as well as the manner in which they will be achieved, will become clearer and more clearly understood in connection with the following description of the embodiments, which will be described in detail in conjunction with the drawings.

Die grundlegende Synthese von N,N-Dihexyl-N’,N’-dimethyl-N’’,N’’-pentamethylen-guanidinium-tetrafluorborat wurde schon in Sheng-hai Li et al., Chem. Res. Chin. Univ. 2005, 21, 158–162 , beschrieben. The basic synthesis of N, N-dihexyl-N ', N'-dimethyl-N'',N'-pentamethylene-guanidinium-tetrafluoroborate has been reported in Sheng-hai Li et al., Chem. Res. Chin. Univ. 2005, 21, 158-162 , described.

Synthese der Guanidinium-Dikationen und Guanidinium-Betain-Verbindungen (K-Reihe) Synthesis of Guanidinium Dications and Guanidinium Betaine Compounds (K Series)

Method for the synthesis of general intermediates and precursors of this class of compounds:
For the synthesis of the following compounds, pentalkylated guanidines are used as synthesis precursors. The synthesis of this precursor takes place according to a literature specification ( Journal of Natural Sciences, B: (2010), 65, (7), 873-906 ).

II. Elektrochemische Charakterisierung der Guanidinium-Verbindungen II. Electrochemical characterization of guanidinium compounds

For electrochemical characterization cyclic voltammetry investigations were carried out on the class of compounds according to the invention. These data were obtained on ionic liquids

performed. As a standard reference material BMIMPF6 (1-butyl-3-methyl-imidazolium hexafluorophosphate) was used. A platinum wire with an area of 0.1 cm 2 served as a working electrode. Platinum wires also served as reference and counter electrodes. The internal standard used was ferrocene.

Furthermore, the solvent influence (II.3) on the electrochemical behavior of the compounds according to the invention was investigated in general on some example compounds.

II.1 Guanidinium-Mono-Kationen II.1 guanidinium mono-cations

1 shows a cyclovoltagram of the compounds M7a / b (N, N-dihexyl-N ', N'-dimethyl-N'',N'-pentamethylene-guanidinium tetrafluoroborate) and M8 (N, N-dihexyl-N', N'- dimethyl-N ", N" -pentamethylene-guanidinium hexafluorophosphate) compared to reference BMIMPF6. Looking at the electrochemical stability windows of M7a and M8, it is clear that both M8 and M7a / M7b are more stable than the standard reference. While BMIMPF6 covers an electrochemical window of approx. 4.5 V in the cyclic voltammetry setup, a window with> 7 V is found for the two guanidinium representatives. M8 seems to be even slightly more stable than M7a / M7b. No insulator effect is observed for either M8 or M7a / M7b. By dissolving dysprosium salts, conductive electrolytes are obtained.

II.2 Guanidinium-Betaine II.2 guanidinium betaines

Betaines are ionic compounds in which the anion and cation are linked by a covalent bond, so that they can not be separated by electric fields, but can be aligned. The molecules are electrically neutral, but have barely delocalized, spatially separated charges. The betaines K2, K3, K6, K7, K8 and K9, which are characterized by a covalently bonded sulfonate anion to an alkyl radical of a hexaalkyl guanidinium cation, have been tested. In this case, the betaines K6 and K8 are ionic liquids at room temperature, the rest, however, are present as solids at room temperature.

The results of the cyclic voltammetry measurements on compound K6 are in 2a and the results of cyclic voltammetry measurements on compound K8 are in 2 B shown.

It is noticeable that no oxidative or reductive current flow was measured in the entire voltage range between -9 V and +9 V compared to the reference. The materials show virtually no conductivity and thus as a insulator a large electrochemical window (here> 18 V). This means for the electrolysis that the ionic liquid acts only as a highly polar solvent and the conductivity can be adjusted almost arbitrarily by the salt to be electrolyzed or a corresponding additive. The betaine-based guanidine-based ILs can therefore be used preferably for use in electrolysis.

The 3a - 3d show the cyclic voltammetry measurements for the solid betaines K2, K3, K7 and K9. In addition, the corresponding spectrum for pure acetonitrile and the BMIMPF6 standard reference is shown.

It is noticeable that the electrochemical stability of the solid compounds K2, K3, K7 and K9 is lower than that of the two betaine liquids K6 and K8. The stability window varies between 3.5 V and 5.5 V. In contrast, the stability window for K6 and K8 is significantly larger (> 10 V). Although the cyclic voltammetry curves of the solid betaines are shifted towards more positive tensions than pure acetonitrile, an influence of the solvent can not be excluded here. Apparently, the electrochemical decomposition of the solvent above the redox parameters also has a fragmentary effect on the guanidinium salts, reductively stronger than oxidative. Without solvents, the stability of solid compounds may certainly be comparable to that of liquid betaines (see also Section II.3).

Additional solvents introduced into the system can affect the electrochemical stability of ionic liquids. This effect was shown using the example of material K6 (4- (N, N-dimethyl-N', N'-N''-tripropylguanidinio) butanesulfonate) and various solvents.

In the 4a the cyclic voltammetry data of compound K6 are presented in different solvents. 4b however, the cyclic voltammetry behavior shows only the solvent. It can be seen that the measured solvents anisole, MEK and acetonitrile reduce the electrochemical stability window of the material. The observed reduction in electrochemical stability is smallest in the case of anisole. Significant differences between acetonitrile and MEK could not be observed.

Measurements on the reference material BMIMPF6 ( 5 ) show that, compared to pure BMIMPF6, a combination of BMIMPF6 and anisole has a significantly reduced electrochemical window. Presumably, anisole is electrochemically oxidized to bis-4,4'-dimethoxy-biphenyl in the presence of this IL. One indication could be that it is known that, for example, Lawesson's reagent, ie an oxidatively formed insertion compound of anisole and phosphorus-V-sulfide, can form extremely easily (see also US Pat Author collective, Organikum, 20th edition (1996) 481-482 ). From the 5 you can also see that pure anisole behaves in isolation and does not initiate any RedOx processes.

For a further cyclovoltammetric analysis of a solvent influence, the behavior of K3 (3- (N, N-dimethyl-N', N', N''-tripropylguanidinio) propanesulfonate) in a melt was compared with the behavior of a K3 and acetonitrile solution (see 6 ). In the melt at 140 ° C, in contrast to the compounds K6 and K8, a current flow is indeed measured. The material does not work as an insulator. This is an indication that the influence of the solvent can not be completely ruled out, but no dominant behavior is present.

III. Herstellung der Hochleistungsmagnete III. Production of high-performance magnets

Ein erfindungsgemäßer Hochleistungs-Seltenerdmagnet kann folgendermaßen hergestellt werden: A high-performance rare-earth magnet according to the invention can be produced as follows:

III.1 Herstellungsbeispiel 1: III.1 Production Example 1:

A rare earth permanent magnet of dimensions 0.3 × 1 × 1 cm is used as starting material whose base content of heavy rare earths (Dy and / or Tb) is 0.5% by weight. This permanent magnet is coated with a layer of heavy rare earth metal, in this case dysprosium.

The coating is carried out from a non-aqueous liquid bath in which 0.2 mol / kg dysprosium triflate in the compound M2 (N, N-dibutyl-N ', N', N ", N" -tetramethylguanidinium trifluoromethanesulfonate) is dissolved. The coating process takes place at a bath temperature of 150 ° C. The deposition process can be controlled potentiostatically or galvanostatically. In this case, the deposition process is potentiostatically controlled (electrode potential = -2.00 V vs. Fc / Fc +) and lasts 5 h. The thickness of the deposited Dy layer is 1 μm.

After coating, the sample is cleaned of residual ionic liquid / metal salts with dry solvent.

The diffusion step is done under vacuum or argon blanket at 900 ° C for 6 hours (annealing). A subsequent rapid cooling to 25 ° C ensures a solidification of the structure (grain boundaries).

Subsequently, by subsequent annealing at 400 ° C over 1 h stresses within the material degraded (aging process).

An additionally doped high-performance permanent magnet is obtained, whose coercive force H is 15-20% higher than that of a magnet which is not additionally doped.

III.2 Herstellungsbeispiel 2: III.2 Production Example 2:

A rare earth permanent magnet of dimensions 0.3 × 1 × 1 cm is used as starting material whose base content of heavy rare earths (Dy and / or Tb) is 0.5% by weight. This permanent magnet is coated with a layer of heavy rare earth metal, in this case dysprosium.

To improve the adhesion and the current efficiency of the deposition process, a buffer layer is first deposited electrochemically on the magnet. For this purpose, a 0.2 mol / kg copper bis (trifluoromethylsulfonyl) imide solution in M5 (N, N, N ', N'-tetramethyl-N'',N''- pentamethyleneguanidinium-bis ( trifluoromethylsulfonyl) imide). Deposition is potentiostatic at 25 ° C for 20 min at E = -0.6 V vs Fc / Fc +. The layer thickness is 50nm.

The dysprosium coating is carried out from a 0.2 mol / kg solution of dysprosium bis (trifluoromethylsulfonyl) imide in M5 at 180 ° C. The deposition is potentiostatically controlled at E = -1.8 V vs Fc / Fc + and is carried out for 5 hours. The resulting layer is 1.5μ thick.

Subsequent indiffusion processes are carried out as described in Preparation Example 1. The increase of the coercive field strength H is 18-22%.
