Abstract
The present invention relates to the synthesis of pentane derivatives and optionally their dimerization products starting from propylene and synthesis gas. This new synthetic route uses alternative starting materials and offers a good synthesis of many industrially interesting products.
Description
Die vorliegende Erfindung bezieht sich auf ein Verfahren zur Herstellung von Pentanderivaten und Derivaten α,β-ungesättigter Decenale, insbesondere Valeraldehyd (1-Pentanal), 2-Methylbutanal, 3-Methylbutanal, 1-Pentanol, 2-Methylbutanol, 3-Methylbutanol, n-Valeriansäure, 2-Methylbuttersäure, 3-Methylbuttersäure, Pivalinsäure, 2-Propylheptanal, 2-Propylheptanol, 2-Propylheptansäure, 2-Isopropyl-5-methylhexanol, und 2-Isopropyl-5-methylhexansäure.The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of pentane derivatives and derivatives of α, β-unsaturated decenals, in particular valeraldehyde (1-pentanal), 2-methylbutanal, 3-methylbutanal, 1-pentanol, 2-methylbutanol, 3-methylbutanol, n Valeric acid, 2-methylbutyric acid, 3-methylbutyric acid, pivalic acid, 2-propylheptanal, 2-propylheptanol, 2-propylheptanoic acid, 2-isopropyl-5-methylhexanol, and 2-isopropyl-5-methylhexanoic acid.
Butene-based decyl derivatives are derivatization products of α, β-unsaturated decenals, which play an important role as a reactive, highly functional intermediate.
- a) Synthesis of n- and iso-butyraldehyde from propylene and synthesis gas
- b) reduction of the aldehydes obtained in step a) to 1-butanol and / or isobutanol, if appropriate with separation of the isomers before or after the reduction
- c) dehydration of the butanols obtained in step b) to butenes
- d) optionally separation of the butenes obtained in step c), if present as a mixture in isobutene, butene-1 and butene-2 or a butene mixture consisting of butene-1, cis-butene-2 and trans-butene-2
- e) extension of the butenes obtained in step c and / or step d) by one carbon atom
- f) optionally further derivatization of the pentanals obtained according to step e), including reaction of the gem. Step e) pentanals obtained to α, β-unsaturated decenals and optionally further reactions.
An essential aspect of the present invention is the use of one mole of propylene and two moles of synthesis gas for the synthesis of the C 5 building block. In contrast to existing processes for the preparation of decyl derivatives based on butenes, a higher proportion of synthesis gas used as a principally inexpensive source of raw materials together with the highly available hydrocarbon source propylene. Thus, the method of the invention is economically advantageous and sustainable, since a wide range of fossil, renewable or derived from waste streams sources can be used for the production of synthesis gas.
Die einzelnen Schritte des Verfahrens werden im Folgenden näher erläutert:The individual steps of the method are explained in more detail below:
Schritt a) Synthese von n- und iso-ButyraldehydStep a) Synthesis of n- and iso-butyraldehyde
Das molare Verhältnis von Übergangsmetall zu Komplexligand beträgt bevorzugt 1:1 bis 1:500, vorzugsweise 1:50 bis 1:300.For the hydroformylation of propylene by the modified process, reaction temperatures of 80 to 150 ° C and reaction pressures of 0.1 to 30 MPa have been found to be suitable. In the heterogeneous process variant, the transition metal concentration is usually between 100 and 300 ppm, based on the aqueous catalyst solution. In the modified Homogenfahrweise the transition metal concentration is 25 to 500 ppm, based on the homogeneous reaction mixture. The molar ratio of transition metal to complex ligand is preferably 1: 1 to 1: 500, preferably 1:50 to 1: 300.
If the unmodified variant is used, the transition metal is used in smaller amounts, preferably in an amount of 1 to 100 ppm, preferably 2 to 30 ppm, based on the amount of propylene used. It is expedient to operate at higher pressures in the range from 5 to 70 MPa, preferably from 5 to 60 MPa and in particular from 10 to 30 MPa. Suitable reaction temperatures range from 50 to 180 ° C, preferably from 50 to 150 ° C and especially from 100 to 150 ° C.
The preferred transition metals for propylene hydroformylation are rhodium and cobalt.
- - Gasification of biomass, agricultural waste, municipal waste, industrial waste or slaughterhouse waste and mixtures of these raw materials for the production of synthesis gas
- - Fermentation of biomass, agricultural waste, municipal waste, industrial waste or slaughterhouse waste and mixtures of these raw materials in a biogas plant for the production of methane, which is converted in a downstream treatment in synthesis gas
- - Synthesis gas production from landfill gas
According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, step a) is followed by a step a1)
a1) Auftrennung in n-Butyraldehyd und iso-Butyraldehyda1) separation into n-butyraldehyde and isobutyraldehyde
This happens especially when isobutyraldehyde is more than a negligible reaction product.
Bevorzugt sind hierbei destillative Verfahren, vgl.
N-Butyraldehyd wird beispielsweise über einen unteren Seitenabzug der Destillationskolonne entnommenen und gegebenenfalls weiter aufgereinigt.N-butyraldehyde is removed, for example, via a lower side draw of the distillation column and optionally further purified.
Schritt b) Reduktion zu 1-Butanol und/oder iso-Butanol und/oder Gemischen von 1-Butanol mit iso-ButanolStep b) Reduction to 1-butanol and / or isobutanol and / or mixtures of 1-butanol with isobutanol
For the hydrogenation, it is preferable to use hydrogenation catalysts which contain at least one metal of transition group 8 to 11 of the Periodic Table of the Elements, such as nickel, cobalt, platinum, palladium, iron, rhodium or copper. Preference is given to nickel or cobalt catalysts. In addition to carrier-free catalysts, such as Raney nickel or Raney cobalt and supported catalysts can be used. Suitable catalyst supports are all conventional support materials, for example alumina, alumina hydrates in their various forms, silica, polysilicic acids (silica gels) including kieselguhr, silica xerogels, magnesium oxide, zinc oxide, zirconium oxide and activated carbon. In addition to the main components of catalytically active metal and support material, the hydrogenation catalysts may also contain additives in minor amounts which serve, for example, to improve their activity and / or their lifetime and / or their selectivity. Such additives are known, including, for example, the oxides of calcium, barium, zinc, aluminum, zirconium and chromium. Nickel has proved to be the preferred catalytically active metal. In particular, nickel catalysts are suitable on kieselguhr as a carrier material and with chromium as an additive for the hydrogenation. If appropriate, the crude hydrogenation product can be purified by conventional methods, for example by distillation, to give pure n- or isobutanol. Are n- and iso-butyraldehyde not gem. Step a1) before hydrogenation, a separation of the alcohols in n- and iso-butanol by distillation can follow the hydrogenation step.
Schritt c) Dehydratisierung von ButanolenStep c) dehydration of butanols
Preferably, the dehydration in the gas phase at temperatures in the range of 200 to 450 ° C, preferably from 250 to 380 ° C using conventional reactors in the presence of heterogeneous catalysts having dehydrating properties, such as alumina in its various modifications, nickel deposited on alumina, or Phosphoric acid deposited on silica or alumina. Such heterogeneous catalysts suitable for dehydration are known from the prior art (
Schritt d) ggf. Auftrennung der ButenisomereStep d) optionally separation of the butene isomers

The embodiments of the invention allow the flexible design of the method in order to use as required different butanol qualities as a starting material in the dehydration reaction and to use different butene qualities for the recovery of defined pentane derivatives.
Schritt e) Verlängerung um ein KohlenstoffatomStep e) extension by one carbon atom
Schritt e) kann besonders bevorzugt mittels Hydroformylierung erfolgenStep e) can be carried out particularly preferably by means of hydroformylation
The butene hydroformylation can be carried out in a homogeneous variant in the presence of transition metal compounds of group VIII of the Periodic Table of the Elements according to the unmodified or complex ligand-modified variant. In addition, an aqueous solution containing the hydroformylation catalyst dissolved can be used according to the heterogeneous process principle.

The molar ratio of transition metal to complex ligand is preferably 1: 1 to 1: 1000, but it may also be higher. The transition metal and the complex ligand are preferably used in a molar ratio of 1: 3 to 1: 500, preferably 1:50 to 1: 300. The modified hydroformylation reaction of the butene mixture is usually carried out at temperatures of 50 to 160 ° C and pressures of 0.2 to 15 MPa. The transition metal concentration is 1 to 2000 ppm, preferably 10 to 1000 ppm, preferably 25 to 500 ppm, based on the reaction mixture.
Preferred transition metals for butene hydroformylation are rhodium and cobalt.

According to one embodiment of the invention, step f) involves dimerization by means of an aldol reaction. Under the action of basic catalysts, an aldol condensation reaction according to variant 3a) of valeraldehyde with valeraldehyde, according to variant 3b) of valeraldehyde with 2-methylbutanal, according to variant 3c) of valeraldehyde with 3-methylbutanal, according to variant 3d) of 3-methylbutanal with 3-methylbutanal according to variant 3e) of 2-methylbutanal with 3-methylbutanal and according to variant 3f) of mixtures of isomeric pentanals, in the course of which the corresponding α, β-unsaturated decenals or mixtures of isomeric α, β-unsaturated decenals are formed with elimination of water , Suitable catalysts are alkali metal carbonates or alkali metal hydroxides, in particular compounds of sodium or potassium, or amines, preferably tertiary amines such as triethylamine, tri-n-propylamine, tri-n-butylamine, in each case optionally as aqueous solutions. But other solvents such as alcohols or mixtures of other solvents with water are possible. The concentration of the basic catalyst in the solution is usually 0.1 to 10% by weight, preferably 0.1 to 3% by weight. It operates at temperatures from room temperature to 160 ° C, preferably from 60 to 150 ° C, in particular 80 to 130 ° C and at atmospheric pressure or at up to about 1 MPa elevated pressure. Suitable reaction vessels are stirred tanks or a stirred tank cascade, a flow tube or a mixing pump. By using static mixers, the catalyst phase can be thoroughly mixed with the organic aldehyde phase.
The reaction time is a few minutes to several hours and depends in particular on the educts, on the type of catalyst and on the reaction temperature. If mixtures of isomeric pentanals are used, for example, according to variant 3f), 2-propylheptenal is formed as the main product, since the self-condensation of valeraldehyde has the highest reaction rate. 2-Methylbutanal reacts according to variant 3b) with valeraldehyde to the co-condensation product 2-propyl-4-methylhexenal. If 3-methylbutanal is additionally present, the self-condensation product 2-isopropyl-5-methylhexenal, the co-condensation product with valeraldehyde 2-propyl-5-methylhexenal and the co-condensation product with 2-methylbutanal 2-isopropy-4-methylhexenal are formed. Since 2-methylbutanal is less reactive than n-valeraldehyde and 3-methylbutanal, after completion of the aldol condensation, the crude mixture obtained can also contain portions of unreacted 2-methylbutanal in addition to the isomeric α, β-unsaturated decenals formed. The proportions of 2-methylbutanal in the reaction mixture can be controlled by the reaction conditions in the aldol condensation.
If mixtures of isomeric pentanals are, for example, dimerized according to variant 3f), the organic phase is then worked up by distillation in a preferred procedure and the mixture of isomeric α, β-unsaturated decenals optionally purified from low boilers, such as unreacted 2-methylbutanal, and high boilers, such as higher aldol condensation products , The mixture of isomeric α, β-unsaturated decenals can then be converted into various decyl derivatives.
The decanals thus obtained can be further reacted. Decanals are according to a preferred embodiment of the invention for the production of decanoic acids by oxidation or according to an alternative preferred embodiment of the invention for the production of decylamines by reductive amination and according to another preferred embodiment for the preparation of decanols (complete reduction). However, decanols are also accessible by direct complete hydrogenation of the decenals.
If proceed according to variant 3a), 2-propylheptanoic acid is formed. If proceed according to variant 3f), a mixture of isomeric decanoic acids which contains varying amounts of 2-propylheptanoic acid, 2-propyl-4-methylhexanoic acid and further decanoic acids which can be derived from the isomeric α, β-unsaturated decenals is formed. For example, a Decansäuregemisch contains more than 90 mol% of 2-propylheptanoic and less than 5 mol% of 2-propyl-4-methylhexanoic acid, based on the total of decanoic acids and can, for example, according to known methods for the preparation of derivatives such as the vinyl ester, Carboxylic acid esters, acid anhydrides, acid halides or acid amides can be used. If, for example, proceed according to variant 3e), 2-isopropyl-5-methylhexanoic acid is obtained as decanoic acid after alkali catalyst dimerization, selective hydrogenation and oxidation.
The decanals obtained after the selective hydrogenation can also be converted by means of the reductive amination into decylamines. In this case, decanals are reacted with ammonia, a primary or secondary amine with hydrogen in the presence of a common amination catalyst to form primary, secondary and tertiary decylamines are formed. The degree of amination is determined by the excess of ammonia or in the second amine, such as n-butylamine or 2-ethylhexylamine, with a high excess of ammonia favoring the formation of primary decylamines.
Decylamines are particularly suitable for use as corrosion inhibitors in lubricants, as auxiliaries in rubber formulations, as vulcanization accelerators and as an additive in lubricants, for example in the form of their dithiocarbamates or corresponding salts, such as molybdenum, zinc or sodium dithiocarbamates.
