Description
The invention relates to a Rührreibschweißvorrichtung for welding connection of joining partners, in particular sheet metal components made of aluminum or the like, according to the preamble of
In friction stir welding, the materials of the joining partners to be joined are plasticized. In this case, a rotating tool made of wear-resistant material is used. The tool consists of a specially shaped pin or a pin which protrudes coaxially to the axis of rotation of the tool. In a first phase of the friction stir welding process, the tool is immersed after pre-positioning with rotation about its own axis and high axial force in the material of one or both joining partners, until an end-face tool shoulder touches the joining partner surface. As a result of the relative movement and the pressure between the tool and the joining partner, a frictional heat is generated. Due to the pressure and rotation, the material is transferred in the joining partner in a locally plasticized state. In the locally plasticized state, the solidus line of the respective joining partner is not exceeded, that is to say the joining partner temperature remains just below the melting temperature of the joining partner material. Subsequently, the actual welding process is started with the onset of a feed movement of the tool.
In this case, for example, the tool can be guided along a joining joint and the two joining partners can be welded together.

Especially at sheet metal components made of aluminum alloys, the component surfaces are coated at room temperature by oxidation and passivation with a thin, amorphous oxide layer whose layer thickness is about 0.05 microns. The oxide layers on the upper and lower sides of the sheet are broken during the welding process by the rotating tool shoulder and conveyed into the weld with the material flow. In the process, individual oxide fragments assemble along characteristic tracks, which weaken the service life of the welded joint and reduce the tensile strength of the welded joint.
In order to avoid the incorporation of such oxide fragments in the weld, the surfaces of the components to be welded together can be cleaned before performing the welding process in a separate step before the welding process, that is, for example, an oxide layer are removed from the component surface. However, such a cleaning process is especially expensive to carry out, especially in a fully automated welding process.

The object of the invention is to provide a Rührreibschweißvorrichtung and a method for Rührreibschweißen in which in a simple manner a perfect weld of the joining partners can be achieved.
The object is solved by the features of
The invention is based on the fact that the agitating in the feed direction stirring zone must be kept free of oxide fragments. Against this background, the surface structure of the joining partner is mechanically pretreated immediately before the stirring zone displaced in the feed direction, in particular cleaned and / or freed from the oxide layer. Namely, according to the characterizing part of
In a technical realization, the tool can be designed rotationally symmetrical together with its tool shoulder. The cleaning contour can preferably connect radially outside directly to the tool shoulder. It is particularly preferred if the cleaning contour extends annularly around the tool shoulder.
As mentioned above, the cleaning contour can break or chip away oxide fragments from the oxide layer, or even before the oxide layer comes into contact with the stirring zone of locally plasticized material. It is of crucial importance that the material in the area of the cleaning contour is not plasticized, but is still firm. Against this background, it is particularly preferred if the cleaning contour forms as a, upstream of the tool shoulder in the feed direction cooling zone. The cooling zone is to be designed so that the tool temperature in the cooling zone is lower than the tool temperature at the friction surface of the tool shoulder. In particular, the tool temperature in the cooling zone is in particular less than a limiting temperature range beyond which plasticizing of the material of the joining partner is used.
Between the stirring zone and the leading cooling zone thus results in a temperature gradient. The tool can therefore perform a mechanical surface treatment in the region of this cooling zone, in which the joining partner material is not yet plasticized. With such a surface treatment in the region of the cooling zone, there is thus no danger of oxide fragments mixing with the plasticized joining partner material.
The cleaning contour may extend radially outward from the central tool shoulder to an outer edge of the tool. The outer edge of the tool can in particular initiate or favor breaking up of the oxide layer as a breaking edge.
The cleaning contour is reset by an offset of 0.1 mm from the tool shoulder. The cleaning contour is a smooth-surfaced annular surface. This is aligned plane-parallel to the friction surface of the tool shoulder. In this way, a tool results, on whose front side two shoulder surfaces are provided, which are offset by a height offset in the axial direction to each other.
It is preferred if the tool is inclined counter to the feed direction by an angle of attack. In this way, takes place in the leading tool area, that is in the cleaning contour, a pressure relief in the axial direction. The anticipatory cleaning contour is therefore - compared to the friction surface of the tool shoulder - acted upon by a reduced axial force. As a result, less frictional heat is generated in the area of the cleaning contour. Due to the reduced frictional heat, it is ensured that the joining partner material remains in its solid state of aggregation in the area of the cleaning contour. In addition, it has been found that the removal or breaking off of oxide fragments from the oxide layer is simplified on account of the reduced axial force in the region of the cleaning contour.
In a further embodiment, the tool shoulder may have a pin or a pin which protrudes in particular coaxially to the axis of rotation of the friction surface of the tool shoulder.
