Dadurch kann bei gleichzeitiger Bereitstellung eines hohen Kühlwasservolumenstroms zumindest in einem Hauptnutzungsbereich, ein Verbrauch reduziert und ein Komfort erhöht werden. Ferner kann eine komplette antriebstechnische Trennung der Brennkraftmaschine realisiert werden, wodurch eine Reibung reduziert und damit ein Wirkungsgrad erhöht werden kann. Es können Kosten der Kühlmittelpumpe reduziert werden, wodurch eine preiswerte, einfache und kompakte Kühlmittelpumpe realisiert werden kann. Unter einem „Antriebselement” soll insbesondere ein Element der Kühlmittelpumpe verstanden werden, durch das ein Drehmoment zum Antrieb der Kühlmittelpumpe eingeleitet wird. Unter einer „antriebstechnischen Anbindung” soll insbesondere eine drehmomentübertragende Verbindung verstanden werden, wodurch vorzugsweise die Kühlmittelpumpe durch die Brennkraftmaschine und/oder den Elektromotor angetrieben wird, vorausgesetzt die Brennkraftmaschine und/oder der Elektromotor stellt ein Drehmoment bereit. Unter einer „antriebstechnischen Anbindung der Brennkraftmaschine” soll insbesondere verstanden werden, dass eine Kurbelwelle der Brennkraftmaschine antriebstechnisch an die Kühlmittelpumpe angebunden ist und/oder die Kurbelwelle der Brennkraftmaschine die Kühlmittelpumpe antreibt. Unter einer „antriebstechnischen Anbindung des Elektromotors” soll insbesondere verstanden werden, dass ein Rotor des Elektromotors antriebstechnisch an die Kühlmittelpumpe angebunden ist und/oder der Rotor des Elektromotors die Kühlmittelpumpe antreibt. Vorzugsweise ist der Elektromotor lediglich zum Antrieb der Kühlmittelpumpe vorgesehen. Unter einer „antriebstechnischen Trennung der Brennkraftmaschine” soll insbesondere verstanden werden, dass die Brennkraftmaschine von dem Antrieb der Kühlmittelpumpe getrennt ist und/oder die Kühlmittelpumpe lediglich durch den Elektromotor angetrieben werden kann. Unter einer „mechanisch selbstständig schaltenden Kupplung” soll insbesondere eine Kupplung verstanden werden, die in Abhängigkeit von einer auf sie wirkenden, durch eine Bewegung, wie insbesondere Rotationsbewegung, resultierenden Kraft einen geöffneten Zustand oder einen geschlossenen Zustand unabhängig von einer Steuer- und/oder Regeleinheit einstellt. Vorzugsweise ist in dem geschlossenen Zustand der Kupplung das erste Antriebselement antriebstechnisch mit der Brennkraftmaschine verbunden und in dem geöffneten Zustand das erste Antriebselement von der Brennkraftmaschine antriebstechnisch getrennt.
