Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a tubular insert for a magnetic inductive flow meter according to the preamble of
Magnetic inductive flowmeters use Faraday's law of induction to determine the flow velocity of a fluid flowing through it. A magnetic field is generated perpendicular to the flow direction. In this magnetic field, charges transported with the fluid generate a voltage perpendicular to the magnetic field and to the direction of flow which can be removed by means of electrodes. The measuring voltage thus determined is proportional to a flow velocity determined over the flow cross section. Such flow meters must maintain largely constant geometric dimensions to ensure the accuracy of measurement regardless of the prevailing pressure of the fluid flowing through. This compressive strength is often achieved by a measuring tube made of steel, through which the fluid flows. On the other hand, this measuring tube must not interfere with the electric and magnetic fields that pass through the fluid in the region of a measuring section. For this reason liners or inserts are used in the measuring tube, which are typically made of ceramic or plastic materials. These meet the requirements of being electrically non-conductive and hardly influencing the magnetic field. At the same time, they protect the metal wall of the measuring tube against corrosion. Inserts made of a plastic material have the advantage that they are particularly easy to handle. However, especially in the case of cured plastic liners or inserts, there is the problem that they either are not sufficiently dimensionally stable or lose their dimensional stability over time.
For example, when a pressure substantially less than atmospheric pressure occurs, a plastic insert tends to disengage from the inner wall of the measuring tube, thereby reducing the flow area.
In the two known tubular inserts for electromagnetic flowmeters are reference potential electrodes, which are required for an improvement in measurement accuracy, mounted through holes in the measuring tube in the tubular insert after it is fully inserted into the measuring tube. This procedure is relatively complicated and has a detrimental effect on the production cost of the flow meter.
The invention has for its object to provide a tubular insert for a magnetic inductive flow meter, which leads to a flow meter with permanently good measurement accuracy and further reduced manufacturing costs.
To solve this problem, the new tubular insert for a magnetic inductive flowmeter of the type mentioned in the characterizing part of
The invention has the advantage that the effort previously associated with the mounting of the reference potential electrodes is now significantly reduced. These are in fact already embedded in the electrically insulating material of the tubular insert before it is inserted into the measuring tube. This means that the manufacturing step in which the reference potential electrodes have hitherto been mounted in the insert through holes in the measuring tube and provided with connection cables no longer exists is required. The elimination of the time previously associated with this manufacturing step time represents a significant savings in the production. The comparatively expensive plug electrodes, which were previously used as reference potential electrodes, as well as the need for these fasteners omitted as well. As a result, the production cost of the electromagnetic flowmeter is significantly reduced.
Another advantage is the improvement in the measurement accuracy resulting from the large-area contacting of the medium with reference potential, since the reference potential electrode is formed as a ring of electrically conductive material which protrudes substantially over its entire circumference from the surface of the inside of the electrically insulating insert , Electrical disturbances of the measuring signal tapped via measuring electrodes are therefore particularly low and the magneto-inductive flowmeter is characterized by particularly good measuring properties.
For a good grounding of the medium before it flows past the measuring electrodes, the reference potential electrode designed as a ring is arranged at an axial distance in the direction of flow of the medium, preferably in front of the measuring electrodes. Of course, it is possible to provide a plurality of reference potential electrodes designed as a ring in front of the measuring electrodes, and one or more reference potential electrodes designed as a ring can also be arranged behind the measuring section.
The reference potential electrode designed as a ring made of electrically conductive material can be produced, for example, as a metallic ring, which is provided with a connecting lug for connecting a wiring in the measuring tube. Such a configuration is particularly advantageous in connection with the use of a tubular molded part of a dimensionally stable plastic for reinforcing the tubular insert in the measuring section and is embedded together with this in the electrically insulating material of the tubular insert.
Alternatively, if a tubular insert is used which consists of hard rubber in the measuring section and in the region of the two flanges made of soft rubber, the ring of electrically conductive material, which serves as a reference potential electrode, by an embedded in the insulating rubber, electrically conductive zone, for. B. made of conductive rubber. The annular electrically conductive zone is then disposed on the surface of the inside of the otherwise made of electrically insulating material tubular insert.
The novel design of the reference potential electrode is connected with a particularly low cost for their manufacture and assembly in magnetic inductive flow meter, if at least in its measuring section, a substantially tubular metal grid is provided for mechanical reinforcement of the tubular insert, which is embedded in the electrically insulating material, and when the reference potential electrode formed as a ring forms part of the metal grid or is electrically connected to the metal grid. In this case, no additional connection wiring for the reference potential electrode is required, since such a metal mesh is placed in magnetic inductive flow meters anyway on reference potential.
The ring of electrically conductive material for the realization of the reference potential electrode can be formed in a simple bending process to the metal mesh, so that a circumferential, inwardly directed elevation of the metal grid is formed. The height of this elevation is advantageously dimensioned such that it projects at least as far as the surface of the inside of the electrically insulating insert and thus a medium flowing through the flowmeter is in good electrical contact with the reference potential electrode. Such a tubular insert can advantageously be completely prefabricated outside the measuring tube with an already embedded metal grid for mechanical reinforcement and for the realization of the reference potential electrode. Thus, the production cost of the flow meter is further reduced in an advantageous manner. In this case, the tubular insert is characterized by a durable durability and geometric stability due to the mechanical reinforcement with the metal mesh.
Advantageously, the invention can be used independently of the particular form of the insert. This may for example have a round, rectangular or square cross-section in the measuring section.
With reference to the drawings, in which an embodiment of the invention is shown, the invention and refinements and advantages are explained in more detail below.
