Accordingly, here the lens volume is smaller than the volume of a sphere having a radius corresponding to the polar radius of the lens. The lenses should have a high numerical aperture and make low demands on the optical adjustment. Overall, the optical system is relatively complex and two successive lenses are used for focusing.
The invention is based on the object, even with a single lens to collimate a highly effective collimation of the light of a surface and at a large angular range radiating light source, such as in particular a light emitting diode or a light emitting diode array. This object is solved by the subject matter of the independent claims. Advantageous embodiments and further developments of the invention are specified in the respective dependent claims.
- A light entry surface and
- - A light exit surface, wherein
- - The light exit surface is convexly aspherical, and
- The radius of curvature increases from the center of the lens to its edge, and
- The refractive index of the lens at the light exit surface has a value of at least 1.70, preferably at least 1.75, and
- - The total height of the lens (h lens, total ) is greater than the arrow height (H outlet ) of the light exit surface, wherein
- - The arrow height of the light exit surface is measured using the axial distance between vertex and edge of the light exit surface, and wherein
- - The volume of the lens at least from the area enclosed by the light exit surface volume and the cylinder volume of a cylinder, the end face is given by the light entry surface and its height is given by the axial distance from the light entrance surface to the edge of the light exit surface, wherein for the volume applies: where r 0 is the radius of curvature at the vertex of the aspheric light exit surface and V lens is the lens volume.
- - A light source with at least one light emitting diode and
- A lens, wherein the lens has a light entrance surface and a light exit surface, and wherein
- - The light entry surface is arranged at a distance from the light emitting diode, and wherein
- - The light exit surface is convexly aspherical, and preferably
- - The radius of curvature increases from the center of the lens to the edge, and wherein
- - The refractive index of the lens at the light exit surface has a value of at least 1.70, preferably at least 1.75, and wherein
The total height of the lens is understood to be the axial distance between the vertex of the convex light exit surface and the light entry surface measured along the optical axis of the lens. Complete collimation is generally not possible because of the locally extended light source compared to the lens. However, with the arrangement according to the invention, typically a full aperture angle of the light beam of less than 30 ° is achieved for at least 40%, even generally at least 60% of the intensity radiated by the light emitting surface. This is considered within the meaning of the invention as a collimated light beam.
It is particularly expedient to provide a plane light entry surface. This allows for a simple production of the lens from a first body with two plane-parallel surfaces and a second, adjoining one of the plane-parallel surfaces body with the convex refractive surface.
- - The light entrance surface preferably flat and
- - The light exit surface is convexly aspherical shaped, and the lens is further preferably formed so that
- - The radius of curvature increases from the center of the lens to the edge, and wherein
- - A material is used for the lens, which has a value of at least 1.70, preferably at least 1.75 at least at the light exit surface, and wherein
- - The lens is made with an overall height which is greater than the arrow height of the light exit surface, wherein the arrow height of the light exit surface is based on the axial distance between vertex and edge of the light exit surface, and wherein
- - The volume of the lens at least from the area enclosed by the light exit surface volume and the cylinder volume of a cylinder is given whose end face is given by the light entrance surface and whose height is given by the axial distance from the light entrance surface to the edge of the light exit surface, wherein for the volume again the relationship (2) given above applies. For the production of the lighting device will continue
- - Provided a light source with at least one light emitting diode and
- - The lens and the light source arranged to each other so that the light entrance surface of the lens is spaced from the light emitting diode.
In the resulting from the distance between the light emitting diode and the light entry surface gap is preferably a low refractive medium, in the simplest case, a gas, in particular air present. This causes a high refractive index jump at the light entrance surface, which causes refraction of the incoming light rays toward the optical axis. If appropriate, however, the intermediate space can also be filled with a medium which has a higher refractive index than air, for example protective lacquer, silicone or the like.
On the other hand, in order to avoid high reflection losses on the lens surface, the lens is furthermore particularly preferably tempered or provided with an antireflection coating. A remuneration is due to the high refractive index on the light exit side of advantage.
The invention is based on the finding that a much higher light-collecting efficiency can be achieved if the lenses are designed to be thicker than in accordance with the above-described relationship (1). The thickness is accompanied by a correspondingly larger volume and a large light entry surface. In particular, it has been found that the limitation according to equation (1) is not necessary or even unfavorable for lighting applications. With existing lenses, LED lighting is very space-intensive. Furthermore, the collecting effect of the prior art lenses is unsatisfactory.
However, if according to the invention a small polar radius is selected in relation to the volume of the lens, in particular smaller than in accordance with equation (1), overall a very compact design can be achieved. Individual lenses used according to the invention can therefore be characterized as being comparatively sharper or more elongate due to the small pole radius relative to the lens volume or, in relation to the lens volume, small spherical volume corresponding to the pole radius. In particular, the lens volume is greater than the spherical volume of a sphere whose radius is equal to the pole radius.
Vorzugsweise liegt der Flankenwinkel im Bereich von 30° bis 70°.With the large lens volume and due to the comparatively small pole radius, large flank angles typically also result. These are very cheap for a high collection efficiency. In a further development of the invention, it is proposed to design the aspheric convex light exit surface so that its flank angle is at least 30 °. Preferably, the flank angle is in the range of 30 ° to 70 °.
The axial section between the edge of the aspherical refractive surface and the light entry surface makes in development of the invention a considerable part of the volume of the lens. In general, it has surprisingly been found to be favorable if the axial, cylindrical section between the edge of the aspherical refractive surface and the light entry surface has a greater proportion of the volume than the volume enclosed by the aspherical refractive surface. This is surprising insofar as it would be assumed that this section does not contribute to the collimation due to the upstream plane light entrance surface per se. On the contrary, there is even a divergent light beam within this section. According to this embodiment of the invention, it has proven to be favorable on the whole if the ratio of the volume enclosed by the refractive surface to the volume of the axial cylindrical section between the edge of the aspherical light exit surface and the light entry surface is smaller than 1/2. If the material used has very high refractive indices of at least n d = 1.9 at the light exit surface, then even a corresponding ratio of the volumes of less than 1/3 can be selected.
Der Brechungsindex an der Lichteintrittsfläche beträgt in Weiterbildung der Erfindung mindestens 1,5, vorzugsweise mindestens 1,6, besonders bevorzugt ebenfalls wie die Lichtaustrittsfläche mindestens 1,70, insbesondere bevorzugt mindestens 1,75.The abovementioned refractive index of at least n = 1.70, preferably at least 1.75, is preferably chosen to be even higher. In particular, a refractive index greater than 1.8 is preferably selected for the aspherical refractive surface in order to increase the collection efficiency. Also for the light entry surface, a high refractive index is preferred. The refractive index at the light entry surface is in a further development of the invention at least 1.5, preferably at least 1.6, particularly preferably also like the light exit surface at least 1.70, particularly preferably at least 1.75.
The high-refractive index lenses according to the invention can generally be produced, at best, under restrictions from plastics. Accordingly, inorganic materials, such as in particular glasses or optoceramics are particularly preferred.
As a manufacturing process, glasses are especially suitable for precision pressing. However, a lens of the volume or the geometry according to the invention can no longer be produced in the usual way from a sphere by means of blank pressing. A first possibility for producing such a lens by blank pressing is to use a cylinder section as Vorvormling. Such a cylinder portion is limited in size substantially only by the dimensions of the mold. Such a cylinder section has much more volume than a ball. Alternatively, non-cylindrical glass sections such as square sections or oval sections may also be used.
Particularly preferred is the production of glass-glass hybrid lenses. These are composed of two glass elements, which directly together by pressing together and gluing the glasses in softened state are connected. Other types of connections, such as kitten are conceivable. Accordingly, a lighting device is provided in a further development of the invention, the lens is composed of two glass elements, wherein from one of the glass elements, the light entrance surface and the other glass element, the light exit surface is formed.
Specifically, in one embodiment of the invention, manufacturing the lens includes pressing, in particular, molding a first glass element or preform on a flat side of a second glass element or preform having two opposing plane-parallel surfaces. The first preform is formed into an asphere when pressed against each other, the surface of which forms the light exit surface of the lens and the surface opposite the surface of the second preform on which the first preform is pressed forms the light entrance surface of the lens, and when compressed at the interface between the lenses both preforms are below the adhesive viscosity. For example, a ball preform can now be used for the first preform.
This condition means that the mechanical stresses do not become too high when cooling down to room temperature. Mechanical stresses can become critical, in particular due to the substantially planar connection surface when using a plane-parallel preform, since in this case almost exclusively shear forces are built up on the connection surface. The condition described in equation (3) should be satisfied for reducing mechanical stresses, in particular in the temperature range between the room temperature and the temperature during pressing of the two glass elements. The condition (3) is fulfilled, among other things, even if two identical glasses are used.
The light-emitting diodes used for the light sources are typically diffuse-emitting surface radiators. The lens according to the invention is particularly suitable for the collimation of such a light source. In particular, relative to the planar light source relatively compact lenses can be used, which nevertheless have a very high light collection efficiency. It is thus provided in a development of the invention that the light emission surface of the light source is at least 1/80, preferably at least 1/40, more preferably at least 1/30 of the area of the light entry surface or the light exit surface projected onto the plane of the light entry surface. The area of the one or more light-emitting diodes can amount to as much as 1/5 of the optically relevant area of the lens, namely the light exit area projected onto the plane of the light entry area, without significant losses of the collection efficiency.
Furthermore, it has surprisingly been found that the collection efficiency and thus the brightness achieved in the emission direction is particularly high when the focal length of the lens is greater than its thickness, so that the focal point of a incident on the light exit surface parallel beam outside the lens is at a distance from the light entrance surface and the at least one light-emitting diode of the light source, or more precisely the light emission surface thereof, is arranged in the axial direction between the position of this focal point and the light entry surface.
With the invention, very compact lighting devices with a plurality of juxtaposed lenses and associated light emitting diodes can be created. To produce a lighting arrangement with an array of such lenses, it is particularly appropriate to combine the aspherical lenses on a common base body, since a large part of the volume of the individual lenses is already given by the section between the light entry surface and edge of the aspherical refractive surface.
In a further development of the invention, therefore, a lighting device is provided with a lens arrangement having a plurality of juxtaposed aspheric lens surfaces, wherein the lens surfaces are arranged on a common base body, or interconnected via this, wherein the base body has a plane facing the lens surfaces, and spaced from the a plurality of light emitting diodes are arranged opposite flat surface, and wherein the light emitting diodes are assigned to the different lens surfaces, so that the light of the light emitting diodes is collimated by different aspherical lens surfaces.
A lighting arrangement according to the invention can be used for general lighting purposes. Special fields of application are in the area of medical lighting equipment, as well as for projectors.

In this equation, the parameter x denotes the coordinate along the optical axis (so-called arrow height) and the parameter y the radial distance (radius) to the optical axis. The size r 0 again denotes the pole radius. The coefficient k is a quantity that characterizes the conicity and is also referred to as a conic constant. Furthermore, the shape of the surface, in particular the deviation from a parabolic shape, is characterized by the coefficients α 2n , n = 2, 3, 4,. Typically, it is sufficient to consider in the sum of equation (4) terms up to at most the tenth order (ie N = 5).

In the embodiments described so far, a single lens has been used for a lighting arrangement. However, it is also possible to arrange several lenses and associated light emitting diodes next to each other to achieve higher light intensities. For this purpose, in particular, a lens arrangement with a plurality of juxtaposed aspherical lens surfaces can be provided, which are arranged on a common base body having a lens surface opposite the flat side, wherein a plurality of light emitting diodes are arranged spaced from the opposite flat surface, so that the light of the light emitting diodes each is collimated by different aspheric lens surfaces.

Optionally, a post-processing of the surface, for example by repolishing done. A critical parameter when pressing is the temperature, because the glasses should not fuse with the mold. To avoid this, suitable mold and / or coating materials may be used on the mold. A suitable material for preventing sticking is z. B. a platinum-iridium alloy. Alternatively or additionally, it is also possible to use a release agent, such as BN, graphite, carbon black, on the mold.
