Description
The invention relates to a refractive optical element, in particular a refractive optical element for refraction or focusing of X-radiation. For the refraction of X-radiation, ie electromagnetic radiation in a wavelength range of 5 pm to 50 nm, there is a particular problem in that the refractive power of the materials sufficiently transmissive for X-radiation is so low that comparatively extreme forms of lenses are necessary in the case of using solid lenses which, among other things, cause the path of the radiation in the lens material to become so long that no longer gives acceptable values for the absorption of the X-ray radiation in the lens material. According to the prior art, this problem is met by the fact that the optical element is formed from a plurality of partial optical elements with refractive surfaces, of which in the edge region of the optical element, ie in the further spaced from the optical axis of the optical element areas, more in the way of the radiation to be refracted and are passed by this than in the vicinity of the optical axis. In this way, a stronger refraction of the radiation is achieved in the edge region and the optical element achieves a focusing effect. For example, in Jark, W. et al., "Focusing X-rays with simple arrays of prism-like structures", Journal of Synchrotron Radiation, 2004, 11, 248-253, a so-called Clessidra lens is presented which comprises a plurality of total in having the nature of an hourglass arranged single prisms. The hourglass shape results from the already mentioned arrangement of the plurality of prisms in the areas further away from the optical axis. The disadvantage here, however, is the complex production of the optical element and the limitation to be able to produce only one line focus and no point focus with one of the optical elements. Although a point focus can be generated by the combination of several mutually rotated Clessidra lenses, this is at the expense of the transmittivity of the overall arrangement.
In "Simon, M. [et al.]: X-ray Prism Lenses with Large Apertures, Proc. In "Simon, M. [et al.]: X-ray Prism Lenses with Large Apertures, Proc. SPIE, Vol. 7077, 2008, pp. 70771Q-1-S, 70771Q-6", embodiments of x-ray lenses are described. In this case, individual sub-elements of an X-ray lens can be designed as prisms.

Based on the prior art, the invention has the object to provide a refractive optical element that is easy to manufacture, and further as good as possible Transmittivity with the option to realize a line focus and a large aperture has.
This object is achieved by the optical element having the features specified in claim 1. The subclaims relate to advantageous embodiments and variants of the invention.
The refractive optical element according to the invention has a plurality of optical sub-elements, wherein the optical sub-elements are arranged such that the number of optical sub-elements, which are passed by electromagnetic radiation incident on the optical element parallel to the optical axis of the optical element, with increasing distance to the optical axis also increases. According to the invention, the optical sub-elements are in particular designed to be curved in a rotationally symmetrical manner about the optical axis.
Thus, the optical sub-elements may, for example, be formed as annular elements with different radii and a triangular cross section (ring prisms), which are arranged concentrically stacked on the optical axis and connected to each other. In this case, an increasing number of such ring prisms is present with increasing radius, so that results in a corresponding stacking of the ring prisms as a result of a rotationally symmetric about the optical axis optical element in the form of an hourglass. In this way, a refractive optical element with a point focus can be realized, with which a large aperture and a comparatively high transmittivity can be achieved in principle. Particularly suitable is the above-described optical element for use in the X-ray region,
With appropriate choice of material and geometry, an application in a variety of other wavelength ranges is conceivable.
According to the invention, the optical sub-elements are arranged on a carrier element which is wound around the optical axis. Again, the optical sub-elements may at least partially be prisms. The optical sub-elements and the carrier element may be integrally formed. This embodiment opens up the possibility, for the production of the optical element according to the invention, of initially producing a foil, for example, from a polyimide on which the optical subelements are already formed. Thus, a carrier element is produced which has a multiplicity of, in particular, parallel prisms. This can be done by taking an impression of a method of photolithography, optionally in conjunction with other patterning methods, such as etching, negative mold; Other structuring methods are conceivable. An exemplary method is described with reference to the drawing. After producing the carrier body with the prisms as optical subelements, the carrier body is cut in such a way that it forms a trapezoidal or also pointed, preferably mirror-symmetrical structure with a comparatively short base side compared to its length. The tip of the structure can lie on the axis of symmetry and the prisms run parallel to the axis of symmetry in a direction perpendicular to the base side. Subsequently, the carrier element is rolled up with the prisms in the direction of the prisms from the top or the short side of the structure so that the desired shape of the optical element according to the invention results practically by itself. To support the Aufrollvorganges a cylindrical body, in particular a glass fiber, for example. Be used with a diameter of about 125 .mu.m, around which the support member is wound. The advantage of using the glass fiber lies in its comparatively high mechanical stability. The diameter of the cylindrical body can be selected without significant deterioration of the optical properties of the optical element up to the range of the diameter of the desired focus. In addition, the maximum achievable aperture of the optical elements according to the invention is not restricted by the method described process-related.
The arrangement of carrier element and optical sub-elements can have before winding a total thickness of about 12 microns, wherein the support element itself has a thickness of about 1.3 microns. Basically, the support element is as thin as to choose from stability aspects still acceptable. Overall, it is advantageous if, with the smallest possible optical sub-elements, the carrier element is made thin relative to the dimensions of the optical sub-elements. The carrier element acts as a plane-parallel plate and thus does not break for axis-parallel rays. Since a comparatively thin carrier element already provides the required mechanical stabilization, the total absorption by the carrier element can also be kept low.
The invention will be described by way of example with reference to the drawing.
