Description
The invention relates to a bicycle frame tube element, in particular for mountain bike or trekking frame. In particular, the invention relates to a bicycle frame top tube. Furthermore, the invention relates to the use of a tube element made of fiber-reinforced plastic as a tube element for a bicycle frame, in particular as an upper tube for a bicycle frame, such as a mountain bike or trekking frame.
In bicycle frames with components that have fiber reinforced plastic, there is an increased risk of damage in the event of a fall or fall of the bike. Bicycle frame with fiber-reinforced plastic components, in particular carbon bicycle frame, have the disadvantage that, in particular when falling through hard objects damage to the frame may occur. This can lead to such damage to the frame that for safety reasons, the entire frame must be replaced. Particularly with mountain bikes and trekking bicycles, it can happen even with relatively harmless falls that beats a twisting of the front wheel, a handlebar end against the top tube. Such a steering impact in the top tube, which may already occur when the bicycle falls over, can lead to such damage to the top tube that the entire bicycle frame must be replaced.
The object of the invention is to provide a bicycle frame tube, in particular a top tube, in which the risk of damage in a fall, in particular by a handlebar impact, is reduced.
The object is achieved according to the invention by a bicycle frame tube according to claim 1.
The bicycle frame tube according to the invention, which is in particular a top tube for a mountain bike or a trekking frame, has a tube element made of fiber-reinforced plastic. The fiber reinforcement takes place here in particular by carbon fibers. On an outer side of the usually hollow tubular element, a deformation element is provided. The deformation element is plastically deformable and serves for energy absorption. In a fall on a hard object, such as a stone, and a steering impact on the top tube, thus takes place a plastic deformation of the deformation element. This absorbs energy. As a result, at least in the case of slight falls or when the bicycle falls over, the energy occurring is absorbed by the deformation element and thus damage to the fiber-reinforced plastic-containing tubular element is avoided. The damage or plastic deformation of the deformation element thus represents a purely optical damage. This can be repaired, for example, by replacing the deformation element or mending. For example, the damaged area of the deformation element can be replenished by a suitably plastically deformable material. By a subsequent repainting, cover with a coating or the like. Can also be easily repaired the optical damage.
In a particularly preferred embodiment according to the invention, the deformation element is firmly connected to the outside of the pipe element, in particular integrated into the design of the pipe element. In this case, it is preferred that the outer side of the tubular element transitions step-free into an outer side of the deformation element. Optically, therefore, in a preferred embodiment, the deformation element is not an additional, externally attached or attached element. Rather, there is a uniform transition, so that the tube element has a uniform appearance together with the deformation element in the visual appearance. Thus, the deformation element thus represents, for example, only a thickening in the corresponding area. Since the deformation element is provided in a particularly preferred embodiment on the top tube of the bicycle frame and thus prevent or reduce damage by a steering impact, it is for example possible that the deformation element starting from the areas where the handlebar touches the top tube extends to the fork tube of the frame. Optically, the top tube thus appears in the area facing the frame tube such that it has a larger diameter than in the area facing the seat tube. According to the invention, a uniform step-free transition preferably takes place between the two regions.
By providing a deformation element according to the invention, which is softer or more easily deformable than the fiber-reinforced plastic, the risk of damaging the bicycle frame tube, in particular when the bicycle falls over or in light falls, can be considerably reduced.
The deformation element is preferably arranged laterally relative to the frame longitudinal direction or direction of travel of the bicycle. This is particularly advantageous in the case of a bicycle frame tube designed as a top tube, since a handlebar impact usually takes place laterally on the top tube. Preferably, the top of the top tube is provided with a deformation element, as in this area, depending on the height of the handlebar, a steering handle, for example, by the switching element or the brake handle, can be done. In particular, this or the deformation elements are arranged in the frame longitudinal direction at least in the area of a possible steering handle. However, it is also possible to provide the deformation element, for example over the entire length of the top tube.
Preferably, the deformation element completely surrounds the tube element of fiber-reinforced plastic and in particular extends over the entire length of the tube element in order to prevent damage from all sides.
The deformation element preferably comprises a material having better energy absorption properties by plastic deformation than fiber reinforced plastic. The deformation element preferably comprises the following materials: foams of plastic and / or metal with and without additional reinforcing materials, elastomer, preferably in honeycomb structures and / or as folding units. Preference is given to deformation elements made of plastic. However, it is also possible to produce a deformation element of thin-walled metallic comb profile. Of course, combinations of these materials are possible. It is particularly preferred to construct the deformation element in a honeycomb structure or in a ribbed construction. In this case, it is possible to fill the intermediate spaces of the honeycomb or rib structure with a plastically deformable material, such as foam material. In particular, by such a structure of the deformation element, it is possible to define a minimum force. Only from the occurrence of a corresponding minimum force or a minimum pressure is a deformation of the deformation element. This ensures that damaging the deformation element does not occur even with slight impacts that would not cause damage to the fiber-reinforced plastic. Preferably, the deformation element is surrounded by a protective jacket for this purpose. The protective jacket may be formed of a harder material than the deformation element and serves to establish a minimum force or a minimum pressure. Furthermore, a desired, in particular smooth surface can be produced by the protective jacket. Furthermore, it is possible to define by the protective jacket, the position of the deformation element.
The deformation element or elements preferably have a thickness of 2 to 8 mm. Here, the thickness of the deformation element depending on the arrangement on the bicycle frame and / or the cross section of the frame member vary, so that in more dangerous areas and / or frame members with a large cross-section a thicker deformation element is provided. If the deformation element is provided with a protective jacket, this preferably has a greater hardness than the deformation element. The protective jacket, which may be destroyed in a corresponding fall, preferably has a thickness of less than 2, in particular less than 1 mm.
The averaged pressure modulus of the deformation element is preferably less than half the pressure modulus of the pipe element, in particular less than 25% of the pressure modulus of the pipe element.
The compressive stiffness of the deformation element is preferably less than 3000 MPa, in particular less than 2500 MPa.
If the deformation element is surrounded by a protective jacket, it has a greater hardness than the deformation element, but preferably a lower hardness than the tube element.
The invention will be explained in more detail with reference to a preferred embodiment with reference to the accompanying drawings.
