- Variante 6: Freilaufdiode D9 mit durch Schalter W1 überbrückbarer Z-Diode D10 Da der Haltestrom eines Relais viel geringer sein darf als der Anzugstrom, kann es aus Verlustleistungsgründen sinnvoll sein, mittels PWM den Spulenstrom begrenzen. Dies gilt besonders bei Relaisanwendungen für einen weiten Eingangsspannungsbereich. Die Regelung kann sowohl im „voltage mode" (Regelung der mittleren Spulenspannung) als auch im „current mode" (Regelung des mittleren Spulenstroms) ausgeführt sein. Allerdings ist es im getakteten Betrieb notwendig, die Z-Diode D10 durch den Schalter W1 zu überbrücken, da eine schnelle Entmagnetisierung der Relaisspule L8 während des Taktens unerwünscht ist. Der Schalter W1 wird erst beim Abschalten des Relais geöffnet, womit wiederum D10 wirksam wird.
