Description
The invention relates to an adhesive arrangement for bonding two structural elements and a method for bonding two structural elements, in particular in the aerospace sector.
Lightweight structural structures in aircraft typically include thin-walled structural elements, such as metal sheets, an outer skin, stringers, frames, ribs and the like of aluminum materials, which are connected to one another by means of riveted joints. In areas of special loads, such as in the area of door, window or hatch cutouts, in the area of wing and tail roots, or in the area of door or hatch corners, it is common to use additional structural elements in the form of stiffeners, Dopplers, crackers. Stoppers and the like made of high-strength materials, such as titanium or titanium alloys provide. Titanium materials, such as pure titanium and titanium alloys, have very good mechanical properties and high fatigue strength. Titanium titanium crack stops and Doppler make it possible to reinforce the hull structure, reducing the level of mechanical stress and increasing the life of the hull structure.
Crack stoppers, also known as crack stopper, and Doppler titanium materials are currently used primarily in two areas of the aircraft structure.
On the one hand, crack stops made of titanium material are riveted to the longitudinal seams in the area of the frames. The main task of the crack stopper is to prevent the propagation of the resulting cracks in the region of the longitudinal seam. This is done by preventing the crack growth under the crack stopper or by the crack deflection of the longitudinal seam in a region in which this crack is quickly detectable. Especially with larger cracks, such as after damage to the hull structure during take-off, the crack stops prevent the spread of the crack into the next section, thereby minimizing the consequences of unpredictable damage.
On the other hand, Doppler made of titanium material in the area of the passenger door and cargo corner corners are riveted in the aircraft fuselage. The main task of the Doppler is to prevent the cracking of the door and hatch corners. This is done by reducing the mechanical stresses in the door and hatch area and by preventing the crack growth under the Doppler.
Riveting is a proven and used for several decades in aircraft connection method for connecting individual structural elements to structural components, such as the connection of stringer and clips with outer skin, and for connecting components to an aircraft structure, such as the connection of individual shells to a fuselage section , the connection of fuselage sections to a hull, the connection of wings with fuselage and the like. A riveting of crack stops and Dopplers made of titanium with structural elements of aluminum materials has sufficient mechanical strength. The use of surface protection agents leads to a permanent resistance against corrosion.
The disadvantages of riveted structural elements include not only long processing times but also reduced fatigue properties. In the area of the rivet holes, stress concentrations and, as a result of material fatigue, microcracks develop. For example, the number of rivets used in the area of Doppler at the door and hatch corners amounts to more than 10,000. This results in a deterioration of the fatigue properties, which at present can only be remedied by increasing the thickness of individual structural elements. However, these measures lead to an increase in the weight of the aircraft structure and the associated disadvantages. In addition, methods for connecting individual structural elements to structural components of an aircraft structure are known, which manage without rivet holes. These include bonding and welding processes for the connection of individual skin sheets as well as for the connection of skin sheets with stiffening elements.

The bonding of structural elements of titanium materials, for example, with structural elements of aluminum materials is not yet used. The reason for this lies in the considerable expense for the pretreatment of the surfaces of titanium materials. The known pretreatment methods for bonding titanium materials involve sandblasting or abrasive grinding of the surfaces of titanium materials, and are therefore not applicable to industrial aircraft application. In addition, the bonding of different materials results in the problem that each material requires a special, separate pretreatment.

For this purpose, a surface area between the two aluminum components introduced adhesive is first heated only partially and thereby cured in these areas. In this case, there is a prefixing of the aluminum components to each other. After varnishing the two aluminum components with a thermosetting paint system, the uncured areas of the adhesive layer located between the two aluminum components are simultaneously cured during curing of the paint system.

The invention is therefore based on the object to provide a bond assembly and a method for producing a bond between structural elements, which are particularly industrially applicable in aircraft and which keep the cost of pretreatment of the structural elements to be bonded together as small as possible.
This object is achieved by the adhesive assembly with the features of
The idea on which the present invention is based is that a first structural element made of a first material, which has at least one first adhesive surface, and a second structural element made of a second material, which differs from the first material, and which has at least one second adhesive surface is, wherein a second material of the second structural element having coating is applied at least on the first adhesive surface of the first structural element. Subsequently, an adhesive bond is provided between the coating applied to the first adhesive surface of the first structural element and the second adhesive surface of the second structural element in order to bond the two structural elements together.
Thus, the present invention over the known approaches has the advantage that the corresponding surfaces to be bonded of the two structural elements before the provision of the adhesive bond by means of the same pretreatment processes and materials can be pretreated and bonded by means of the same adhesives. As a result, the possibility of a secure adhesive connection between structural elements of, for example, a titanium alloy and structural elements made of, for example, an aluminum alloy is ensured, wherein the glued structure can be advantageously produced in a simple and cost-effective manner.
In the dependent claims are advantageous refinements and improvements of the
By coating a existing of a titanium material structure element with another, easier to handle during bonding coating material can be complex and in aircraft only conditionally applicable pretreatment of titanium material, such as be dispensed with sandblasting, grinding or the like. The term "titanium material" herein includes both pure titanium and titanium alloys.
According to a further preferred development, the first structural element is designed as a stringer for forming a stiffening agent, as a Doppler or as a crack stopper for preventing cracking or crack propagation, or the like.
According to a further preferred embodiment, the coating preferably has at least a thickness of approximately 0.2 μm. For example, the coating consists of an aluminum material, for example an aluminum alloy, depending on the second structural element to be bonded. In particular, in aircraft usually consists of a structural element, such as a skin panel, stringers, bulkhead, a rib or the like of an aluminum material. By coating a first structural element made of, for example, a high-strength material such as, for example, a titanium material with aluminum or a suitable aluminum alloy, similar surface materials can be pretreated with one another and correspondingly adhesively bonded together. The coating is applied by means of a plating method or by means of a vapor deposition method on the first adhesive surface of the first structural element. Preferably, during the production and / or prior to any rolling of the first structural element, the coating is applied to the first adhesive surface of the first structural element so that such rolling processes take place without damaging the corresponding rollers. The coating can be applied both on one side and on both sides on the first structural element, i. H. either only on the surface to be bonded of the first structural element or on the surface facing away from the bond.
The second structural element is in particular a structural element of a lightweight structure of an aircraft, i. H. For example, designed as a rib, rib or the like.
Furthermore, it is conceivable that the material of the second structural element and thus the coating of the first adhesive surface of the first structural element consists of a hybrid material, in particular a fiber composite metal laminate.
An advantageous embodiment of the invention provides that the structural elements are designed as elements of a lightweight structure, preferably an aircraft structure. In this case, the term "structural element" also includes, in particular, truss structures, for example multilayer components produced in previous production stages, stringer, outer skin elements, outer skin structures and / or the like. In this case, at least one structural element may comprise a metal sheet, the term "sheet metal" comprising thin-walled, essentially two-dimensional structural components which consist of a monolithic or homogeneous material as well as of a hybrid, for example laminated material.
Hybrid materials may herein be laminated materials such as aluminum laminated materials, fiber composite metal laminates such as aluminum based, fiber reinforced aluminum laminated materials, carbon fiber reinforced composites, or the like. Fiber reinforcements may also include, for example, glass fibers, polyaromatic amide fibers, aluminum oxide fibers, silicon carbide fibers, basalt fibers, aluminum wires, titanium wires, magnesium wires or the like besides the already mentioned carbon fibers. Fiber composite metal laminates are known, for example, as Glass Fiber Reinforced (GLARE) material or as Aramite Aluminum alloy (ARALL).
A particularly advantageous embodiment of the invention further provides that the adhesive arrangement to be bonded to the two structural elements comprises a fiber-reinforced layer which is, for example, a component of the applied adhesive bond. The arranged in the adhesive bond between the structural elements fibers can be unidirectionally aligned. Likewise, it is conceivable that the fibers arranged in the adhesive layer between the structural elements are aligned bidirectionally or polydirectionally. In this case, the fibers can be arranged in a woven structure, such as a grid, a net or the like. The fibers preferably have a minimum length of 10 mm and preferably a diameter of between 0.001 mm and 0.3 mm. Before or during bonding, the fibers can be incorporated in a plastic matrix, for example in an adhesive, as already explained above. After bonding, the adhesive layer of the adhesive compound has a layer thickness of preferably 0.01 mm to 0.3 mm. The fibers may be formed, for example, as glass fibers, carbon fibers, polyaromatic aramid fibers, aluminum oxide fibers, silicon carbide fibers, basalt fibers or the like, and aluminum wires, titanium wires, magnesium wires or the like.
The invention is explained in more detail below on the basis of exemplary embodiments with reference to the accompanying figures of the drawing.

The coating of workpieces, such as executed as sheets structural elements, can be done by different methods. For example, it is possible for the aluminum alloy coating to be applied before rolling a titanium alloy sheet. As a result, the rolling process is improved in view of the wear of the rolling rolls.
In addition, the coating of structural elements made of titanium materials with aluminum or an aluminum alloy allows the application of the same pre-treatment measures to prepare the adhesive bond for the structural elements made of titanium materials and for the structural elements of aluminum materials. It is therefore possible for the provided with the coating structure elements made of titanium materials in the manufacturing step in which the adhesive bond is made, the same processes, such as surface cleaning, anodization and the like, and same substances, such as pretreatment baths, primers, adhesives and the like to apply or use.

The method for producing an adhesive arrangement between a first and a second structural element preferably proceeds as follows: First, a first structural element of a first material and with at least one first adhesive surface is provided, wherein the first material is formed as a titanium material. A second structural element is provided which has a second material different from the first material and which has at least one second adhesive surface, wherein the second material is formed as aluminum or magnesium material; a coating having the second material of the second structural element is vapor-deposited or plated on at least the first adhesive surface of the first structural element; and an adhesive bond between the coating applied to the first adhesive surface of the first structural member and the second adhesive surface of the second structural member for bonding the same to each other is provided. The bonding is preferably carried out under vacuum in, for example, an autoclave.
The method described is also suitable for the bonding of laminated materials, such as fiber composite metal laminates, such as GLARE. It is also conceivable to use the invention in conjunction with composite materials known as composites, in particular carbon fiber composite materials. The pretreatment of the surfaces to be bonded of the structural elements is simplified by coating the surface to be bonded of the first structural element of titanium materials, since uniform treatment and bonding methods and materials can be used for both structural elements.
The inventive method, as well as the adhesive arrangement according to the invention make it possible to replace, for example, in the door and hatch area as well as in the region of longitudinal seams riveted Doppler made of titanium by glued Doppler made of titanium. The possibility of secure bonding also allows the use of glued tear stops in the longitudinal or transverse direction of the fuselage or wing to prevent the propagation of possible cracks in the aircraft structure. The ability to produce a secure, inexpensive, and easy to manufacture adhesive assembly between aluminum alloy structural members, such as stringers, clips, skin sheet, and the like, and titanium alloy structural members, such as Doppler, crack stoppers, stiffeners, and the like, has many advantages.
The bonded structure has better fatigue properties by reducing the number of possible crack initiation sites. Such crack initiation sites are predominantly the rivet holes in conventionally made compounds. This makes it possible to increase the level of permissible stresses in the structural components and to correspondingly reduce the weight of, for example, an aircraft structure. A further reduction in weight results from the savings of the rivets no longer required in an adhesive connection.
Annealing Dopplers made of titanium or titanium alloys is a very costly process. The rivets used for riveting the Doppler are usually made of titanium and very expensive. The gluing process represents a less expensive joining process.
Bonding of titanium alloy structural members with aluminum alloy structural members to a structural member of an aircraft structure, such as a shell, may be carried out in one operation together with the bonding of aluminum alloy structural members together. The time required for the production of the shell is thereby greatly reduced, since the previously occurring in a further, usually in another production hall step of subsequent riveting of structural elements made of titanium alloys with the previously glued together structural elements made of aluminum alloys. In addition, this also eliminates the transport costs between the production halls.
The representation in the figures is not to scale. In particular, individual layer thicknesses are greatly exaggerated.
Although the present invention has been described above with reference to preferred embodiments, it is not limited thereto but modifiable in a variety of ways.
