Abstract

Modular revision socket (1) for a prosthetic hip joint comprises an oval press-fit shell with a flat top and rounded edges. This has a press-fit angle of 75 - 82[deg]. It is held in position by pins (2a, 2b) and a clip (3) whose shape is determined by the requirements of fitting. A recess in the socket wall prevents impingement. The socket is fitted with a lining of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene with a corresponding recess. An independent claim is included for the fastening pins which have a cylindrical tip with guide surfaces, a retaining section below this with a similarly modified surface to the socket, and a head with radial studs which hold the pi in mountings on the socket.
