Abstract
Process for the non-vacuum electron beam welding of metallic materials comprises using a vacuum electron gun (21) with a process gas (33) containing additional protective gas (28). Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) Protective gas for carrying out the above process containing argon, helium, 0.01-75 vol.% nitrogen and 0.02-25 vol.% oxygen; (2) Process gas for carrying out the above process containing helium and 40-80 vol.% nitrogen and/or up to 20 vol.% hydrogen and/or up to 25 vol.% oxygen; and (3) Device for carrying out the process.
