Description
The invention relates to a method for operating a navigation system and a navigation system for a vehicle, in particular for a power Vehicle in which data from a location system is used for geographic Position determined and sent to a facility for electronic data processing processing with access to a database and a digital road map are transmitted and based on this data the location of the vehicle is determined on the digital road map and the driver of the Vehicle's acoustic and / or visual route guidance instructions will give.
Navigation systems for vehicles, especially motor vehicles, as well Methods for operating such navigation systems are known. These serve the current, geographic position of the vehicle to be determined and depending on a given, to be achieved To calculate the cheapest route and the driver to to give instructions on the route.
The known navigation systems require information for the Determination of the current location of the vehicle and the calc of the route are necessary. This particularly includes Stra shape, turning conditions and the like. This data will provided in the form of a database. The database includes this for example a so-called digital map, the waypoints and / or Contains decision points of the possible routes. The Da is known based on vehicle-mounted mass storage devices, for example a CD ROM, available.
Bekannt ist hierzu beispielsweise das satellitengestützte Global-Positioning-System (GPS).Furthermore, a location system is necessary, which is the current, geographical Determines the position of the vehicle. For example, this is known satellite-based global positioning system (GPS).
A device for electronic data processing processes the Positioning system delivered position data with the in the digital Stra ßenkarte stored data and determines the current position of the Vehicle. According to the chosen target point can now by the facility for electronic data processing based on paths score and / or decision points on a selected, inexpensive Most route to the driver visually and / or acoustically guidance information will be given.
So-called offboard navigation systems are also known, in which the cheapest route is not calculated in the vehicle itself, but is taken over by a service center. The service center provides the cheapest route to the vehicle via a transmission range available. A disadvantage of such systems is that the Service center large amounts of data to determine the cheapest Route and possibly one arranged around the cheapest route network routes to a large number of vehicles. As a result, large data transmission capacities are required.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a method for operating nes navigation system for a vehicle and a navigation system to create the generic type with which large in a simple manner Amounts of data can be made available.
This object is achieved by a method of ge above mentioned type solved with the features mentioned in claim 1.
Because the cheapest route or a route corridor depends on it speed of a current position of the vehicle and a definable The vehicle's target point is broken down into defined sections Stuff is provided and for each of the defined sections detailed route information from at least one second service central offboard are made available, it is advantageously possible the total effort of the amount of data to be transferred significantly re duce. The navigation system first receives those defined in the Sections disassembled route - depending on the starting point and destination - and only if detailed in at least one of the defined sections Route guidance will be necessary from the second service stezentrale. By structuring the transfer of the In formations for a cheapest route or the corresponding one Route corridor can be taken into account that a Large number of vehicles that pass through one of the defined sections want, that is, especially in these defined sections Have destination with initially only general routes information is adequately supplied. These are used to Vehicle via the navigation system when passing the defined Ab to make cuts. Here is just the entry point and the exit point from this defined section interesting for the vehicles. the This means that it only receives the routing information that is known Entry point in the defined section are necessary to get out to reach the entry point from the defined section. Everyone else Routing information within the defined sections must therefore not be calculated and transferred.
By combining the routing information with next to the defined sections for the entire, cheapest route and the detailed routing information in each one of the passie rend, defined sections assigned by these sections second service centers, each vehicle must therefore have the calculated Route or the associated route corridor is not individual be made available, but it is sufficient to drive testify to transmit the relevant, defined sections separately from this transmission of the defined sections to those of interest To transmit route information in the defined sections. It it becomes clear that with a large number of drivers using the same route So first create this with the route information to the defi nated sections must be supplied.
This is the best route for calculating and transferring or the cheapest route corridor to be calculated and The amount of data to be transmitted is reduced, so that transmission capacities can be saved. The individual, detailed route information tions within the individual, defined sections can by the second service center is available identically for all vehicles be made so that here the effort for an individual calculation and provision is not applicable.
In a preferred embodiment of the invention it is provided that the second service center works locally and preferably that of the detailed route information transmitted to the second service center be repeated regularly. This advantageously makes it possible that of the defined sections of the overall route - more if necessary related, defined sections of a route - your own, assign second service center. So the route information, which are kept in this second service center, updated if necessary be transferred and transmitted, relatively limited, so that there is one to bear amount of data to be processed or transferred in a limited amount Scope holds. It will also respond faster to eventu ell required, changing, detailed route information, for example as a result of road closures, accident sites or the like, at short notice possible. By repeating the detailed routes regularly formations through the second service center are available to everyone in each assigned, defined sections vehicles in it constantly the necessary, detailed Rou information is available.
In a further preferred embodiment of the invention it is provided that the detailed routes transmitted by the second service centers information is provided with a time delay, whereby this ins in particular according to the cheapest route otherwise be made available. This will be advantageous possible, the corresponding, detailed route information is not immediately need to be transferred when starting the journey, but only during departure the route through the respective vehicle. So the is at first Reduced amount of data to be made available for the start of the journey. This allows faster calculation and transmission of the cheapest route and thus a faster recording of the navigation when starting your journey.
In a further preferred embodiment of the invention it is provided that the detailed routes transmitted by the second service centers information is made available on request, ins special the request from the respective vehicle or from the first Service center is triggered. This advantageously makes it possible to de tailored routing information in the respective defined sections to provide time-critical. In particular, every drive can stuff, for example when entering the respective defined section, the Get associated, detailed route information. This entry can either be signaled by the vehicle itself or by the quasi-superordinate, first service center to the second service centers signaled. This is a precise, the actual requirement the detailed route information possible in the defined sections.
Furthermore, it is provided in a preferred embodiment of the invention that the cheapest route or the corresponding route corridor from the first service center is made available offboard. hereby the navigation system to be carried in the vehicles from to additional, functional effort, especially for the calculation of the cheapest route or the corresponding route corridor, relieved. This can thus be constructed more simply and cost-effectively his.
According to a further, preferred embodiment of the invention can be provided be the cheapest route or the associated routes corridor from a mass storage device carried in the vehicle as the first Service center is made available. Because the mass storage only must have basic information on the defined sections the amount of data to be kept available is reduced. The detailed rou then information in the respective defined sections provided externally by the second service centers.
In addition, a preferred embodiment of the invention is provided hen that the provision of detailed route information graded according to urgency by the second service centers, especially depending on the simultaneous request for more number of vehicles. This advantageously makes it possible to reduce adornment of a transmission capacity or for optimal off the use of an existing transmission capacity the detailed Rou transmit information to the vehicles according to urgency. The Urgency can preferably be based on that of the location system average actual positions of the vehicles are provided.
In a further preferred embodiment of the invention it is provided that the detailed route information in the vehicle when entering the respective currently defined section can be cached. This will advantageously possible that when the vehicle enters the respective defi section, the details applicable to this defined section received route information from the second service center and be cached in the vehicle. This will only one current load on the transmission link is necessary so that the available available transmission capacity can be used optimally. Each time you enter a new, defined section of the route The route corridor is then once again the detailed one Route information queried, received and stored in the vehicle stores.
Finally, a further, preferred embodiment of the invention is provided see that the detailed route information between them in the same Chen, defined section located vehicles are replaced. For this purpose, the vehicles can use known telematics Functions are in contact and find that they are the same Chen, defined section of a route or a route map ridors with the same destination that applies to this defined section, So exit point from this defined section or destination point in the this defined section. This allows one to see the detail already received route information from the second service center vehicle directly to at least one other Vehicle can be transferred. This also makes an optimal off use of the available transmission capacities of the second service centers possible.
The object of the invention is further achieved by a navigation system of the type mentioned above with the note marked in claim 15 paint solved. The fact that a device for providing defined Sections of a route or a route corridor depending on one current position and a predefinable target point of the vehicle and a receiving device for receiving detailed routing information for the defined sections of the route or route map ridors are provided, it is advantageously possible to be a navigation system to ride, which has a simple structure and flexible for under different routes or route corridors can be used.
Further, preferred embodiments of the invention result from the features mentioned in the subclaims.

Fig. 3 shows an area G within a section of the map shown spreading in all directions. The map, and thus the area G, is divided into defined sections 44 . According to the exemplary embodiment, the sections 44 are approximately square in shape and exactly defined by an alphanumeric system. Through the exemplary assignment of each of the sections 44 to a letter and a number, each of the sections 44 can be precisely defined and thus identified. An identification label is thus, for example, A1, A2, etc. For the explanation of the exemplary embodiment, it is assumed that the area G is taned by a freeway A0 running in a north-south direction. Area G is connected to the A0 motorway by a federal road B0 running in an east-west direction. Within the G area, the main roads H0 or H1 lead to the B0 main road. From these main roads H0 and H1 branch off secondary roads and the like, not shown in FIG. 3, branch off. Based on the presen- tation in Fig. 3 it is clear that each of the streets, whether highway, federal road, main road or secondary road, touches at least one of the defi ned sections 44 , usually several of the defined sections 44 .
The navigation system 100 according to the invention is now based on the following consideration. The vehicles 32 within the predetermined area G generally have different travel destinations. With regard to the specified area G, however, the goals are often identical. For a vehicle 32 located within area G, one of the following statements always applies:
- 1. "Der Zielpunkt liegt im Gebiet G" oder1. "The destination is in area G" or
"The target point lies outside of area G and is defined by Ver leave the area G on the federal road B0 in the west Direction reachable "or
"The target point lies outside of G and is by leaving the Area G on the federal road B0 in an easterly direction bar."
Of these three options, only the first alternative requires an indi viduell calculated route. The second and third alternative, however, can through a pre-calculated route with route guidance instructions that do not provide individual, detailed route information need.
Since the majority of vehicles 32 generally use routes of alternatives 2 and 3 when traveling through region G, this applies to through traffic through region G and all journeys that have a starting point in G and its destination outside of G lies. This majority of vehicles 32 can therefore use identical - not individual - route information.
One possible case is assumed with reference to FIG. 4, according to which a starting point for a vehicle 32 in the defined portion 44 of the identifi cation is E3 and its unillustrated target point can be achieved by driving on the motorway A0 in a northerly direction. The resulting, cheapest route can be fully identified using the defined sections 44 . For the case explained, the following, cheapest route with the respectively assigned route guidance applies to the positions 32 of the vehicle 32 in the respective defined sections 44 - which can be determined by the location system 14 ( not to be considered in more detail here):
It becomes clear that the vehicles 32 do not have to be sent an individually calculated, cheapest route or a route corridor containing the route. It is sufficient to transmit the relevant section routing identifications (IDs) to the vehicle 32 . An individual, detailed route information within each of the sections 44 can thus be provided in a different way.
Transferred to the structure of the navigation system 100 explained with reference to FIGS . 1 and 2, this means that the relevant section routing identifications are transmitted to the vehicle 32 via the first service center 22 . Due to the reduced need for information and thus reduced amounts of data to be transmitted, its transmission capacity can be optimally used.
If necessary, the vehicle 32 receives the individual, detailed route information from the second service center 26 . It can be provided here that a separate, second service center 26 is assigned to each of the sections 44 . However, it can also be provided that a common, second service center 26 is assigned to a group of sections 44 , for example all sections 44 within an area G. Since the representation in FIGS. 3 and 4 was only excerpted, it is clear that when viewed over the entire map, a plurality of second service centers 26 can be assigned to a central, higher-level service center 22 . It is also possible to integrate the second service center 26 into the first service center 22 as a subordinate level and to provide corresponding partial capacities of the route server 36 for each of the subordinate service centers 26 . The second service centers 26 can work, for example, on a broadcast basis. However, other transmission paths, for example mobile radio-based media or the like, are also possible.
It is clear that - since the majority of vehicles 32 within area G only require the reduced information, namely the section routing identifications - there are significantly reduced requirements for the overall bandwidth of the data transmission of the first service center 22 . Only when a vehicle 32 driving in area G actually has its destination in area G does it need the individual, more detailed route information via the second services central 26 .
The individual, detailed route information can be requested directly from the vehicle 32, for example, when it enters a first section 44 of the area G. It is also conceivable that the first service center 22 notifies the second service centers 26 via the transmission link 42, based on the position knowledge about the location system, that a vehicle 32 is now entering the area G to be covered, which requires individual, detailed route information. According to a number of vehicles 32 to be operated simultaneously, an urgency hierarchy can also be taken into account here, depending on how far the vehicles 32 are from their respective end points.
Furthermore, it is clear from the representations that the individual, detailed route information does not have to be transmitted to the respective vehicles 32 as soon as they start driving. This information need only be actually transmitted when the vehicles 32 enter area G. In this case, the individual, detailed route information, preferably in a chronologically repeating sequence, is emitted over the area G either continuously via the transmitter device 40 of the second service center 26 , so that all the vehicles 32 located therein, the destination of which is in the area G, can always use the corresponding route information again and again. It is also conceivable that, however, the individual, detailed route information from the respective vehicle 32 is received and temporarily stored when entering the region G for the first time, so that the corresponding route guidance instructions can then be given to the respective driver.
