Description
The invention relates to a method for assessing a color layer according to the preamble of
The known method is used for the production-related color control of products with imaging color sensors such as color matrix, color lines or point-by-point scanners. In this case, one or more multidimensional histograms of the color vector components are calculated from the signals of these sensors both for a reference and for test objects, and measurements for the color deviation or color match are obtained from the comparison of these histograms.
The known method has the disadvantage that the determination of the histograms and their comparisons is relatively complex, both in terms of time and in terms of programming. In addition, complex computing devices are required, which are relatively expensive.
A discloses a method for assessing a color layer of a surface. Here, a light source and a receiving source are arranged fixed to each other. As a result, only light is received from the receiving source, which is reflected according to the law of reflection at the main angle of reflection.
The invention is based on the object of specifying a method for assessing a color layer, in particular the surface impression of the color layer on a viewer, which enables a quick assessment of the color layer with little expenditure on apparatus and programming and reliably detects possible color deviations or other errors.
This object is achieved by the invention specified in
A color layer is understood to mean the entire coating of an object or a part thereof. With a coating consisting of several layers e.g. In the case of a vehicle in which the coating usually has the layers of galvanizing, phosphating, filler, base code and clear code, starting from the sheet, the upper layers facing away from the sheet are understood to be the paint layer, in particular those layers which represent the make a color impression on a viewer.
The invention has the advantage of being able to simulate the color perception of the human eye in a simple manner by suitable coordination of the evaluation program. The method according to the invention therefore represents a kind of “optical artificial head” for checking layers of paint. The preferred layers of paint for the application of the method are coatings on vehicle bodies in automotive engineering. Such bodies are preferably coated with high-gloss metallic paints whose visual appearance, i.e. Color impression and brightness, strongly depend on the viewing angle and light incidence angle. This dependency is also known as a flop. In particular with varnishes with a strong flop, the appearance of the entire vehicle is also strongly dependent on its shape, because e.g. on strongly curved surfaces, the color of the paint is perceived differently than in other areas. The method according to the invention can therefore also be used advantageously in the development, construction and design of new vehicles, by reproducing the color perception of the body when painting with a paint with a strong flop, e.g. based on a simulation in a computer.
Another advantage of the method according to the invention is that no optically closed space is required and no laboratory conditions are necessary. In addition, the process works without contact and causes no damage to the paint layer. Another advantage is that a visual assessment of colors on three-dimensional curved surfaces is possible. The relative color perception of humans is objectified and color differences are quantified. The method records the areas including a color reference as a whole and also enables location-dependent color value statements. Furthermore, statements about the influence of the shape or the color on the color impression are possible, in particular form-independent statements about the color values.
Here, the method according to the invention extracts two-dimensional information from the five-dimensional image information recorded by means of the optical receiving means, which is preferably designed as a digital camera, in a relatively simple and relatively inexpensive manner. The five-dimensional image information can be, for example, color information containing three components, for example red, green and blue (RGB display), or a combined luminance / color information in the sense of the LAB color space in accordance with the CIE standard. A horizontal and a vertical coordinate are added as further components, since it is at the information recorded by the camera is a two-dimensional image.
According to the invention, the two-dimensional information obtained according to
According to an advantageous further development of the invention, measured color information is formed from the two-dimensional information by calculating a compensation function that has an approximate course to the recorded two-dimensional information. Spline interpolation and the least squares method are examples of the calculation of compensation functions. An approximate polynomial is particularly suitable as a function type, which has the advantage that it is easy to handle and can be represented with little information, e.g. by a sequence of coefficients.
According to an advantageous development of the invention, the two-dimensional information or the measured color information function is compared with a predetermined color information function and the deviation between them is used as a measure of the quality of the color layer. This can e.g. a good sample, but it is more advantageous to compare it directly with a color standard or with a DKM body. This is a sample body in a data control model color (= DKM), i.e. Determination of the series status of a certain color, specifying the specific tolerances. It is also advantageous to carry out a comparison to a target value that corresponds to a tolerance center position in a tolerable color deviation range. The reference values for the color or the specified color information function can also come from a color atlas for the designers. Different characteristics can advantageously be used as a measure of the deviation, e.g. the parallelism of the functions compared with one another, the difference between these functions and also the derivation of the measured color information function. The comparison can then be used to check whether the predetermined deviation thresholds or derivation thresholds have been exceeded or fallen short of. For example, the slopes of the functions can be used as a measure of the parallelism.
According to an advantageous development of the invention, the difference between the measured color information function and a predetermined color information function is formed and the integral of this difference is used as a measure of the quality of the color layer. Graduated statements can be made from this, e.g. whether the examined section of the color layer deviates by a certain percentage from the specified color information function. Depending on the extent of the deviation, the products produced can be classified in quality classes.
According to an advantageous further development of the invention, the five-dimensional information or data derived therefrom by means of the optical receiving means is fed into the process of the paint production in such a way that by means of a suitable color tinting of the paint to be produced, future paint jobs have no or at least a reduced color deviation in the sense of a control loop. The transmission of the data from the paint user to the paint manufacturer can e.g. via a data network such as the Internet. This enables a relatively short-term and precise adaptation of the paint composition to the requirements of vehicle manufacture. In addition, irregularities in paint production can be counteracted at an early stage.
The method according to the invention has the further advantage of allowing visual assessment of colors even on three-dimensionally curved surfaces. According to an advantageous development of the invention, undesired deformations of the surface carrying the color layer are recognized and classified. In this way, contour disturbances due to dents and dents, deviations due to the adjustment of attachments, e.g. Tank flap or bumper of a vehicle, and of transitions between parts assembled to one another can be detected without the need for additional equipment or software measures. The detection takes place through the evaluation of the color information according to the invention. If an undesired deformation is detected, a warning signal can then be triggered.
In an advantageous development of the invention, the predetermined geometric region of the color layer, which is used for obtaining the two-dimensional information, is designed as an elongated measuring strip, the length of which is large compared to the width. The use of a measuring strip simplifies the Obtaining the two-dimensional information, since the measurement points perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the measuring strip are averaged, for example, by averaging, so that a series of average measuring values results along the longitudinal axis of the measuring strip. The measuring strip is advantageously designed with a linear, straight longitudinal axis or also with a curved longitudinal axis. The curved longitudinal axis in particular enables the detection of a large number of critical points on the color layer with just one measurement. To check the quality of the painting of a vehicle, a plurality of measuring strips are preferably used, which are distributed in the longitudinal and transverse directions and diagonally, the measuring strips also being able to have overlaps. Advantageously, a measuring strip is taken from a generally rectangular image recorded by means of a camera sensor and further processed by a software program. It is also advantageous to take a series of measuring strips from a single recorded image.
According to an advantageous development of the invention, a reference color pattern is superimposed on the image recorded by the optical receiving means. This can be done when checking the painting of a motor vehicle body e.g. in that a reference sheet with a target color is placed on or attached to the vehicle in selected vehicles to be checked. It is also possible to use software to overlay a reference color sample into the recorded image, the reference color sample being, for example, the associated DKM color or a target value.
With further advantages mentioned, the invention is explained in more detail below on the basis of an exemplary embodiment using drawings.

- - Extraction of the brightness values (luminance values) of the three-component LAB color information along a perpendicular to the
longitudinal axis 35 of the measuring strip over the entire width of the measuring strip. - Averaging the extracted brightness data to an average brightness value L for each abscissa value y.

It is furthermore advantageous to generate a difference image of two objects of the same color by superimposing objects that are comparable to one another and forming the difference point by point. From the difference image thus generated, e.g. Brightness deviations are read, which allow conclusions to be drawn about the different painting of the parts.
