Abstract
Description
The invention relates to an alloy based on using melt or powder metallurgical Titanium aluminides produced using a technique Alloy composition of titanium, aluminum and niobium.
An alloy of this type is known (DE-OS 197 35 841). So far, mainly nickel-based or iron-based materials, so-called super alloys, which have a high specific weight, have been used as metallic high-temperature materials. Therefore, with these materials it is not possible to regularly implement construction elements that require a very low weight with high strength, for example in modern power generation systems, automobiles or aircraft turbines, in order to improve the efficiency of such systems and units. For the substitution of superalloys, alloys based on titanium aluminides have therefore been developed and used for some time, the specific weight of which is only half that of the superalloys. Technically relevant titanium aluminide alloys are made up of intermetallic phases γ (TiAl) and α 2 (Ti 3 Al). The mechanical properties of these alloys depend on the relative volume fractions of these two phases, which in turn are primarily determined by the aluminum content. The tensile strength of the generic alloys could be significantly improved by a 5 to 10 atom% proportion of niobium, which has been pointed out in the generic DE-OS 197 35 841. The generic alloys are characterized by very high tensile strength, which, based on the specific weight, surpass that of the superalloys. The good tensile strength of these Nb-containing alloys is based on the high volume components of the α 2 (Ti 3 Al) phase present in them. However, the α 2 (Ti 3 Al) phase dissolves easily at application temperatures above 700 ° C and transforms into the γ (TiAl) phase. This leads to large structural changes in the structure, which are extremely disadvantageous for the mechanical properties at high temperatures. Under these conditions, a high creep deformation of the material occurs, which makes it unusable for many applications. In addition, the associated structural changes in the structure of the material lead to its embrittlement, which has a very disadvantageous effect on a subsequent load on a component made from such a material at low temperatures.
To the creep resistance and structural stability of the Titanium aluminide alloys have been improved given alloy composition so far Optimization of the structure mainly through suitable Heat treatment made. It could in certain Measure the setting of so-called lamellar structure can be achieved. However, lamellar structures change in the case of long-term loads, it switches back to global structures, d. H. in their initial structure before the heat treatment. In addition, lamellar alloys are added low and medium temperatures turn out to be brittle what their technical applicability is very strong limits.
It is therefore an object of the present invention to Alloy based on titanium aluminides who do not have these disadvantages, d. H. a Alloy, which has great temperature resistance both at both high and low temperatures also has a high resistance to oxidation and a high creep resistance, the fiction appropriate alloy nevertheless simple and inexpensive be producible and relatively easy to edit should.
The object is achieved according to the invention by a Alloy composition of the generic type, at which is the aluminum content of the alloy in the range between between 45.5 and 49 atomic%.
The advantage of the solution according to the invention is that that by means of the composition chosen according to the invention titanium alumide alloys can be a much better one at high temperatures Have strength. By compared to the DE-OS 19 73 584 titanium aluminide alloy higher proportion Aluminum becomes an unexpectedly higher oxidation resistance reached. Another advantage is that achievable lower densities of the invention alloys according to the invention and the comparable low raw material costs. Another advantage is that considering the foregoing the field of application of titanium aluminide alloys significantly expanded by means of the solution according to the invention.
According to an advantageous embodiment of the invention the alloy also contains boron, preferably with a boron content in the alloy in the range of 0.1 to 0.5 atomic%. The addition of boron advantageously results to form stable excretions that lead to mecha African hardening of the alloy according to the invention and Stabilize the structure of the alloy.
According to a further advantageous embodiment of the Invention contains the alloy carbon, namely preferably with a carbon content in the range of 0.1 to 0.8 atomic%. Even the addition of carbon, if necessary in combination with the above Additive boron, leads to the formation of stable Aus divorces, which are also used for mechanical hardening of the Alloy and contribute to the stabilization of the structure.
Finally, it is advantageous to keep the niobium content in the Choose alloy in the range between 4 to 10 atom%, which significantly improves the tensile strength of the alloy can be set.

The invention will now be described in more detail with reference to the beige figure attached. This shows:
a diagram showing the variation of the yield stress with the aluminum concentration of the alloy according to the invention.
Ti-aAl-nNb-cC-bB
tungsbildende DE-OS 197 35 841 realisierten Legierung in
einer Zusammensetzung Ti-45 Al-10Nb-0,2C-0,2B (ebenfalls
in Atom %) enthalten. The figure is made of an alloy of the type
Ti a Al-nNb-cC-bB
assumed, for the concentration intervals of the alloy that a = 45.5-49, n = 4-10, c = 0.1-0.8 and b = 0.1-0.5 atom%, where in the present case the case for the representation in the diagram n = 10, b = 0.2 and c = 0.2 was chosen. The figure contains the strength values for room temperature and 900 ° C. In addition, the strength values of an alloy realized by the coating-forming DE-OS 197 35 841 are contained in a composition Ti-45 Al-10Nb-0.2C-0.2B (also in atom%).
As can be seen from the figure, with the inventions alloy according to the invention up to aluminum concentrations of 47 atom% at room temperature almost the same flow stresses of around 1000 MPa reached. Only after that falls the yield stress drops significantly. At 900 ° C the increases Yield stress initially clearly with the aluminum concentration and reaches around 47 atomic% Maximum and then falls back to that on the alloy Ti-45Al-10Nb-0.2C-0.2B measured values. This Observation suggests that the high temperature Yield stress of Nb-containing titanium aluminides is very high depends on the aluminum content. This is have been recognized according to the invention. The additions of coal Fabric and boron lead to the formation of stable deposits divorces used to mechanically harden the alloy and contribute to the stabilization of the structure.
It can be seen from the figure that by means of alloy according to the invention at high temperatures achieved significantly higher strengths of the alloys can be. By compared to the genus moderate alloy composition higher aluminum content can also achieve better resistance to oxidation become. Other advantages are lower densities and lower production costs, which also increases the Field of application of the alloys according to the invention can be expanded significantly.
By using conventional metallurgical Melting or casting methods or also known powder Tallurgical processes can be the inventive Alloys are made. The invention Alloys can also by hot isostatic Ver sealing, heat treatments, hot forging and hot extrusion or a combination of these processes be reshaped or further processed.
