Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to receiver sensitivity and in particular on a circuit for regulating the sensitivity of a Communication signal receiver.
Für praktische Zwecke beträgt die Veränderung in der Empfindlichkeit ungefähr 30 dB.Keyless entry systems for vehicles use radio frequency (RF) signals that from a handheld transmitter of an electronic key to operate the Interlocks can be transmitted in a vehicle. These access systems use a combination of static and dynamic data to validate the Transmitter in a receiver circuit inside the vehicle. The dynamic Data components within the sender and receiver are added after each updated validation to improve system security. During the manufacturing process, a learning procedure is used to create an RF key code register by a special transmitter with the receiver switching logic of a special vehicle is transmitted, and to the dynamic data components of the to synchronize two circuits. The sensitivity of the receiver to RF signals must be carefully controlled during the key learning process: if the recipient is too sensitive, he will use the key code of other vehicles learn the production line; if the sensitivity is too low, it will be the Don't learn key code at all. A similar limitation applies to one Transmitter / receiver resynchronization procedure that must be followed if the dynamic data in one of the two devices due to total power failure of the appropriate memory will be lost. So the keyless entry system works properly, the sensitivity of the receiver circuit a low sensitivity mode within the vehicle for learning and sync and a high sensitivity mode for normal operation to have. For practical purposes, the change in sensitivity is about 30 dB.
Currently, the sensitivity of receiver circuits is adjusted by a circuit as shown in FIG. 1. Incoming RF signals are downconverted to intermediate frequency (IF) and amplified by an IF amplifier 2 . The signal is further processed by a peak detector 4 and a pass filter 6 for low frequencies before it is transmitted to a comparator 8 . The comparator 8 has two inputs: a positive input 9 and a negative input 11 . The comparator 8 subtracts a base voltage present at the negative input 11 from the data signal present at the positive input 9 . The resulting output 12 is transmitted to an external microprocessor for further processing. The pass filter 6 for low frequencies has a shorter time constant than a pass filter, which is formed by an input resistor 10 and a capacitor 14 . The input resistor 10 is connected between the two inputs of the comparator 8 . The capacitor 14 is connected between the negative input 11 of the comparator 8 and ground. During normal operation, the voltage across the capacitor 14 represents the long-term line noise level, which is therefore subtracted by the comparator 8 from the signal present at the positive input 9 .
If the system needs to be resynchronized, the microprocessor is instructed by an external computer system connected to the access system to enter a resynchronization mode. The microprocessor reduces the sensitivity of the receiver circuit by applying a potential to the gate of an expansion mode field effect transistor (FET) 16 , thereby switching the FET 16 from a non-conductive to a conductive state.
If the FET 16 is connected between the 5 V supply rail 32 and a charging resistor 15 , it results that the supply voltage is applied to one end of the charging resistor 15 . The other end of the charging resistor 15 is connected to a plate of the capacitor 14 . When the FET 16 is turned on by the microprocessor, current flows through the charging resistor 15 and charges the capacitor 14 . After a predetermined period of time, the microprocessor removes the gate bias from the FET 16 . The FET 16 is thereby switched off, no appreciable current flows through it and the capacitor 14 stops charging. Because the charged plate of the capacitor 14 is also connected to the negative input 11 of the comparator 8 , the capacitor voltage is subtracted by the comparator 8 from the signal at the positive input 9 . The sensitivity of the receiver is therefore reduced. The value of the charging resistor 15 is high (typically 4.7 MΩ) in order to reduce the charging current of the capacitor 14 and thereby enable the voltage across the capacitor 14 and consequently the receiver sensitivity to be precisely regulated. The charge stored on the capacitor 14 flows slowly, but there is sufficient time to complete the resynchronization procedure. As the charge stored on the capacitor 14 flows away, the voltage supplied to the negative input 11 of the comparator 8 also decreases.
As a result, the sensitivity of the receiver eventually returns to normal high value back.
The performance of these circuits suffers from fluctuations in the resistance of the resistance element 15 . Since the nominal value of the resistance element 15 is so high (4.7 MΩ), the actual value is extremely sensitive to the ambient conditions, especially in the automotive sector. These fluctuations cause capacitor 14 to charge too quickly, so the sensitivity decreases rapidly and the synchronization process fails because the RF signal is not recognized at all. Therefore, the circuits have to be tuned by hand to achieve the required performance, but this is impractical. It is therefore the object of the invention to provide an inexpensive circuit for regulating the sensitivity of a communication signal receiver or at least an expedient alternative.
The present invention relates to an access system for a vehicle with a receiver circuit for receiving transmitted RF signals, the receiver circuit having an amplifier for amplifying the signals and a controller for generating a sensitivity control signal for adjusting the sensitivity of the receiver circuit, characterized by:
a supply circuit for the amplifier responsive to the sensitivity control signal for adjusting the power supply for the amplifier and thereby the sensitivity of the receiver circuit.
A preferred embodiment of the present invention is provided by way of example only Described with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Fig. 1 ein Blockschema einer bekannten RF Empfängerschaltung ist; und Fig. 1 is a block diagram of a known RF receiver circuit is; and
Figure 2 is a block diagram of a preferred embodiment of a RE receiver circuit.
An RF receiver circuit 1 of a keyless entry system for a vehicle, as shown in FIG. 2, comprises a low-noise amplifier (LNA) 20 for amplifying the radio frequency (RF) signals received from an electronic key and an RF integrated circuit (RF IC) 22 for processing the amplified signals for a microprocessor 30 . The LNA 20 is a standard two-transistor cascode amplifier known to those skilled in the art.
The LNA 20 is powered by a 5 V power supply 32 , but is connected in circuit 1 to the supply 32 via two parallel circuit branches, including a first branch with a high resistance 24 (27 kΩ) and a second branch with one low-resistance resistor 26 (47 Ω) and a pnp bipolar transistor 28 (BC856) connected in series. The base of the transistor is controlled by a signal from a microprocessor 30 through a third resistor 29 (22 kΩ).
After a new keyless entry system has been installed in a motor vehicle, as described above, the system must learn the binary code transmitted by a special handheld RF transmitter which is then used to operate the door locks. To ensure that the received code is free from interference from other sources, the sensitivity of the RF receiver is reduced during the learning procedure and the transmitter is operated from inside the car. The sensitivity of the system is controlled by the microprocessor. During the learning procedure, the microprocessor 30 turns off the transistor 28 and the low-resistance resistor 26 is effectively disconnected. The resistance between the power supply 32 and the LNA 20 is practically equal to the resistance of the high-resistance element 24 , or 27 kΩ. This resistance is significantly greater than the effective resistance of the LNA 20 , and as a result most of the power supply voltage goes through the high-resistance resistor 24 and the LNA 20 receives only a small proportion of it, 1.76 V in the circuit 1 . The gain of the LNA 20 is therefore greatly reduced. In circuit 1 , the DC collector current of the LNA 20 is only 120 µA, and the LNA 20 weakens its input signal under these conditions and provides an attenuation of -20 dB.
After the learning procedure is completed, the microprocessor turns on transistor 28 . Current flows through transistor 28 and the low resistance resistor 26 is effectively connected in parallel with the high resistance resistor 24 . The total resistance of the two circuit branches is therefore somewhat less than the resistance of the low-resistance resistor 26 , in this example 46.9 Ω. This is significantly less than the effective resistance of the LNA 20 , and as a result almost all of the supply voltage is supplied to it. In circuit 1 , 4.7 V of the 5 V supply voltage is supplied to the LNA 20 , which decreases 3.56 mA. The resulting gain of the LNA 20 is 15 dB.
Under the control of the microprocessor ( 30 ), the sensitivity of the circuit 1 can be changed by a nominal value of 35 dB. Measurements on a number of actual circuits indicate an average change of 30 dB with a spread of 5 dB. This satisfies the need for adequate sensitivity during normal operation and greatly reduces sensitivity during the learning mode where only the strong signal transmitted by a key in the nearby area is detected.
A variety of variations will be apparent to the expert without the scope of the above with reference to the accompanying drawings described invention to deviate.
