Description
The invention relates to a process for the preparation of granular calcium chloride-containing fertilizers by mixing calcium chloride, urea, calcium nitrate, magnesium chloride, sodium tetraborate and chelated trace elements.
Liquid high calcium content foliar fertilizers are used to control the stem, to prevent leaf blotches and premature leaf fall, to reduce apple and shell tan, to prevent calcium deficiency in vegetable crops, and to promote the fruit size and shelf life of strawberries and raspberries.
B. Wuxal® von Agrevo oder Düngal Combi Plus der Urania Chemicals GmbH).These products in form of aqueous solutions with high calcium chloride content, as well as other nutrients such as nitrogen, magnesium and trace nutrients such as boron and chelated metal compounds are already known to the consumer and in the relevant commercially available (eg. B. Wuxal ® from Agrevo or Düngal CombiPlus the Urania Chemicals GmbH).
The aforementioned nutrients are present in the liquid commercial products in concentrations so high that the saturation limit is exceeded and thus crystallized solid is in the solution.
This has the disadvantage that by constant recrystallization processes (Oswaldt-maturation) coarsen the crystals and forms correspondingly difficult stirrable sediment. As a result, the consumer has to do considerable physical work when handling these products by stirring.
Another disadvantage is the high transport costs caused by the water content contained in the formulation.

Powdered or granular fertilizers which do not have the disadvantages described above are hitherto unknown in the prior art in the desired composition and hitherto have been found to be unproducible since they are caused by the mixing of the ingredients (eg urea and magnesium chloride) by crystal water rearrangements and melting point depressions, liquefaction and sticking occur which lead to the unusability of the product.
The object of the present invention is to develop a method for producing a calcium chloride-containing fertilizer, which ensures long-term stability of the fertilizer, is simple to carry out and also leads to good results from an economic point of view.
This object is achieved in that the individual substances are added in the order urea, Kalksalpeter, Natriumtetraborat, magnesium chloride, chelated trace elements, calcium chloride in a mixer.
It was found, surprisingly, that in compliance with the above sequence in the supply of the individual substances in the mixer liquefaction and adhesion of the fertilizer does not occur and a stable, salable and non-dusting granules can be produced.
In order to improve the flowability of the resulting granules, it is proposed that, after the addition of the calcium chloride, an addition of silica be carried out.
To support a continuous moisture in carrying out the mixing process, it is proposed that the magnesium chloride is added in crystalline form with six molecules of water of crystallization per molecule of magnesium chloride.
A convenient choice of material is that Solubor ® DF is used as the sodium tetraborate.
A short-term completion of the initialization phase is supported by the fact that calcium chloride is used in the form of flakes with a particle size fraction of 70 to 90% in the size range between 1 and 4 mm.
In particular, it proves to be advantageous that calcium chloride in the form of flakes with a particle size fraction of about 80% in the size range between 1 and 4 mm is used.
Sufficient surface contact between the magnesium chloride and the urea is assisted by using urea in the form of prills having a grain size fraction of 70 to 100% in the size range between 1 and 4 mm.
In particular, it proves to be advantageous that urea in the form of prills with a particle size fraction of about 95% in the size range between 1 and 4 mm is used.
To support a uniform distribution of Kalksalpeters is proposed that Kalksalpeter is used in the form of granules with a particle size fraction of 80 to 100% in the size range between 1 and 4 mm.
In particular, it proves to be advantageous that calcium nitrate is used in the form of granules with a particle size fraction of about 90% in the size range between 2 and 4 mm.
A sufficient surface contact between the magnesium chloride and the urea is also supported by the fact that magnesium chloride is used in the form of flakes with a particle size of 60 to 90% in the size range between 2 and 6 mm.
In particular, it proves to be advantageous that magnesium chloride in the form of flakes with a particle size fraction of about 70% in the size range between 2 and 5 mm is used.
A uniform consistency of the fertilizer is also supported by the fact that sodium tetraborate is used as fine granules with a particle size fraction of 70 to 100% in the size range between 0.1 and 0.5 mm.
In particular, it proves to be advantageous that sodium tetraborate is used as fine granules having a particle size fraction of about 80% in the size range between 0.2 and 0.5 mm.
A typical addition of trace elements is such that manganese is used as a chelate in powder form.
A distribution of the trace elements within the fertilizer is supported by the manganese is used as a chelate in powder form with a particle size <0.1 mm.
The binding of the trace elements can be favorably influenced by using manganese as a chelate in powder form in an EDTA complex.
Another addition of trace elements can be made such that zinc is used as a chelate in powder form.
Again, the distribution is supported by the fact that zinc is used as a chelate in powder form with a particle size of 0.1 mm.
For the binding of the trace elements, it proves useful also in this case that zinc is used as a chelate in powder form in an EDTA complex.
A further improvement of the long-term stability of the fertilizer is achieved by stopping the hydration of the drum mixture beginning after the magnesium chloride addition as an initialization phase by rapid addition of the following individual substances.
An additional improvement of the product quality can take place in that the initialization phase is chosen so that a complete binding of the fine powdery constituents takes place on the coarse substances, but does not undergo excessive agglomeration in conjunction with a liquefaction of the drum mixture.
A typical implementation of the method is performed such that prilled urea is mixed in a suitable mixer (e.g., Lödige ploughshare mixer ®) with calcium nitrate and sodium tetraborate. Conveniently, as Kalksalpeter the commercially available Kalksalpeter 15 and used as Natriumtetraborat the commercially available Solubor ® DF. After addition of magnesium chloride (Bischofite®), the so-called initialization phase begins. This means that the mixture is becoming increasingly moist and using a slowly progressive liquefaction. The cause is the release of water of crystallization from the magnesium chloride by the urea. For this process, a minimum humidity is required to initiate this reaction. This is 34% RH (20 ° C). Moist air accelerates this process. Granules eventually form, the mixture stops to develop dust and looks like "wet snow". At the same time a decrease in temperature in the product can be detected.
This time is the end of the "initialization phase" and is stopped by the rapid addition of the metal chelates as well as the calcium chloride. It has proved to be advantageous to add some silica to the mixture in order to achieve a better flowability of the resulting granules.
The resulting granules are dust-free and free-flowing. Since the product is slightly hygroscopic, it should be transferred to a moisture-proof packaging as soon as possible. If bottling in small packages is only possible later, bottling in large sacks with a PE inner layer has proved suitable for intermediate storage.
Storage tests showed that the product has high stability with respect to moisture sensitivity. Even product in "negligent" sealed packaging (paper bags with PE inner layer were folded after opening only slightly on the cut side) remains free-flowing for 2 years without clumping, leading to the unusability of the product.
